Shirleen (Flanagan) Brown 88, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on September 7, 2023, at Grandview Heights with her family by her side. A visitation for family and friends will take place at Mitchell Family Funeral Home of Marshalltown, Iowa on Wednesday September 13, 2023, from 9 a. m. until 11a. m. with services to follow at 11a. m. Shirleen was born November 22, 1934, in Hardin County at the home of her parents: Alva and Reta (Haynes) Flanagan. She received an education at both New Providence and at the farm. She was united in marriage to the love of her life, Chester "Chet" Brown on June 29, 1952 on a farm near New Providence. For many years she worked as a secretary for Brown & Sons Camper and Auto of Marshalltown. She took pride in being a home maker and was considered a great cook while baking her famous chocolate "wacky" cake and delicious pork chops. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, and attending all of their sport activities. She also liked to attend slow pitch softball games, watching T. V. , word puzzles, adult coloring books, playing cards, and her specialty was playing Mexican Train Dominoes with her own house rules. James (Jim) Parks, 97 of Grandview Heights Ohio passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2023. He was born July 6, 1926 in Medina, Ohio. Jim was a loving, father, grandfather, and uncle. He is survived by his daughter Grace, son Tim, his grandchildren Kyle and Kirsty (Nathan), and several nieces and nephews. Jim is preceded in death by his wife Joyce of 55 years, and his siblings Jack, Sarah and Phillip. Jim graduated with a BA in education from Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. He also was a Navy veteran where he proudly served for six years. Jim began his career as a high school math teacher in Butler, Ohio. After marrying and moving to Columbus, Jim worked as a research assistant at Battelle in Columbus for several years. Following his time at Battelle, Jim returned to teaching where he found his calling; teaching math to incarcerated students at various correctional institutions throughout Columbus. Jim was a member of Boulevard Presbyterian Church for over 60 years where he served as an Elder, teacher and musician. In retirement Jim enjoyed numerous hobbies. He was an aviation and computer enthusiast and loved tutoring math students. The hobby he was most passionate about however, was anything barbershop. He was a chorus member of the Capital City Music (Chorus) Club, and sang baritone in his barbershop quartet, the Capital City Music Company, for more than 45 years. A memorial service will be held Thursday, September 7, 2023 at 1:00pm at Boulevard Presbyterian Church, 1235 NW Boulevard Columbus, Ohio 43212. Family will receive guests one hour prior to the service and there will be a light luncheon following the service. All are welcome to attend. Marilyn Kay Diggins, age 75, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Grandview Heights Rehabilitation and Healthcare. Per the wishes of Marilyn and her family, cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will take place on Friday, May 19 at 10:30 A. Born Marilyn Kay Swendson on April 21, 1948 in Fort Dodge, Iowa, she was the daughter of Kenneth and Olive (Rice) Swendson. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1966 and went on to obtain her Bachelor's Degree in Nursing at Iowa Lutheran in Des Moines. Her care and compassion as a registered nurse led to her over 27 year career at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, where she retired. After meeting the love of her life, Rodney "Pete" Diggins, they were united in marriage on June 15, 1974 in Eagle Grove. Together they made their home in Marshalltown, where they raised their family. Marilyn was a faithful and dedicated member of Elim Lutheran Church. In her free time, she enjoyed quilting and was an avid reader. Left to cherish her memory is her children, Kenny (Mandy) Diggins of Marshalltown, IA and Kristense Rose of Mason City, IA and her grandchildren: Emily and Grace Diggins and Herizen and Kazen Rose. In eternal life, she is reunited with her beloved husband Pete, her son Mark in infancy, her parents and her brother Kenny in infancy. Vernon Wilbur Jones was born November 19, 1931 to parents Wilbur "Willy" and Edna (Tucker) Jones in State Center, Iowa. He grew up and attended school in Clemons, Iowa and graduated from Clemons High School in 1949. In 1952, Vernon enlisted with the United States Army where he served our country and was later honorably discharged. On January 13, 1952, Vernon was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jane Gill. Together they called Clemons their home and began a family raising six boys. Vernon was a lifelong farmer and worked his land year after year. In addition to farming, Vernon worked many years at Bob's Feed in Marshalltown. Vernon and Jane achieved 59 years of marriage together until Jane's passing in 2011. Vernon was a member of the Elk's Lodge of Marshalltown. In his free time, he loved to tinker in the garage, go antiquing, take camping trips, attend auctions, collect gas engines and marbles, and go for rides on his Harley Davidson in his early years. Left to remember and cherish his memory are his children, Bob (Beverly) Jones, Bill (Cindy) Jones, Brian (Jana) Jones, Barry (Kindra) Jones, and Brad (Linda) Jones; his daughter-in-law Michelle Frye; and his many grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren; and Sister-in-law Carmen Gill. Madonna "Donna" Neuroth, a resident of the Grandview Heights in Marshalltown, longtime Haverhill resident, passed away on Monday, March 29th, in Waterloo, just one day short of her 82nd birthday. The Chicago Cubs have lost one of their biggest fans. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a. m. Saturday, April 9th (please note date) at the Immaculate Conception Oratory in Haverhill. A rosary will be recited at 10:00 a. m. She will be laid to rest in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Haverhill. Memorials may be directed to her family. Born on March 30th, 1940, in Marshalltown, she was one of five daughters born to Paul and Amelia (Stalzer) Neuroth. She attended St. Joseph Parochial School and graduated from St. Mary's High School in Marshalltown. Her love for people was obvious in her working career. Work friendships began at Gra-Iron Foundry and later the KC Hall, Lincoln Valley Golf Club and Meskwaki Casino until her retirement after 22 faithful years. Haverhill was home all of her life until moving to Grandview Heights in December of 2020 due to health concerns. Her faith was near and dear to her heart. She was a faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (now Oratory) and most recently St. Francis Parish in Marshalltown, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Marshalltown Women's Bowling Association and 600 Club. It was a good day in Donna's life when she could bowl or attend craft shows, watch the Chicago Cubs or Iowa State Cyclones and spend time spent with family. She also sold Tupperware in years past. Left to cherish her memory are her sisters: Rosalene (Richard) Heil, Louise (Gary) Rutherford and Sandy Bailey, as well as 13 nieces, nephews and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Lloyd Paul Ball II, of Grandview Heights, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 22, 2021 in the loving company of his son, his brother and his friends. Lloyd was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lloyd Paul Ball and Lula Ball, as well as his brother Allen Moore. Lloyd is survived by his son Whitman Ball, his brother Lee (Patty) Moore, and sister Barbara (Dennis) Snodgrass. He is also survived by five nephews, one niece and countless friends. Lloyd was born on February 23, 1952 in Columbus and was raised on the south side of town where he attended Marion Franklin High School. He graduated from Wittenberg University in 1974 where he played quarterback, leading the Tigers to a 12-0 record and a National Championship. Lloyd was recognized by his teammates as their Most Valuable Player and was awarded All-Conference and All-American recognition. Lloyd was enshrined in both the Marion Franklin and Wittenberg University Hall of Honors. After graduating from Wittenberg, Lloyd received his master's degree in special education from Wright State University and had a 35-year career in the Columbus school system as a special education instructor and a work study coordinator. He devoted his life to helping at-risk youths and young people with disabilities. He was also a head football coach at Briggs High School and Columbus West High School. LLoyd was the kindest man you will ever meet, and the greatest father a son could have. But make no mistake, he was tough as nails. At the end, he battled Parkinson's disease for almost a decade while at the same time suffering from multiple other ailments. And yet, it still took multiple forms of cancer to bring his journey to an end. He didn't whine. He didn't complain. He got up every day with a smile on his face, put The Rolling Stones on the record player and fought the good fight. Like he always did. That was Lloyd. Obituary Millicent "Millie" Schlosser Eckhart, a long-time resident of Grandview Heights and a member of King Avenue Methodist Church, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on September 24, 2019, at Sunrise of Dublin. Millicent was born in Plymouth, IN, in 1935, and when she was 8 years old moved with her family to the University District in Columbus, OH. She attended Northwood Elementary, Indianola Junior High, and North High School Class of 1953 and was an active member of the North High Women's Alumni Association. Millie began college at Ohio Wesleyan, and graduated from the Ohio State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work in 1959. She was a member of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority and a very active alum advisor with the organization for many years. Millie participated in Camp Fire Girls through high school, later became a leader for her daughters' groups, and loved and supported Camp Wyandot. She was also a member of PEO. Her children would like her to be remembered as someone who had unconditional love for all people, a strong sense of family and friends, and that she was a loyal fan and supporter of Buckeye athletics. She loved music, dancing, flowers, ice cream, and spending time with friends and family at her beloved summer cottage at Pretty Lake. Millie had the most beautiful blue eyes and smile that would light up any room. Millicent is preceded in death by Pete Eckhart, her husband/best friend of 56 years, brother Philip Schlosser, sister-in-law Sue Eckhart Greer, brother-in-law Henry Eckhart; and, her parents Samuel and Dorothy (Cole) Schlosser. She is survived by her daughters Victoria Eckhart (Andrew) and Alicia Eckhart; cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Jacob Schlosser (Kathleen); sister-in-law Kathy Schlosser; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Nancy Exline , longtime resident of Grandview Heights, died Thursday, Sept 12 at Abbington of Upper Arlington. She rallied to celebrate her recent 100th birthday surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband Frederick, son Frederick William, and son-in-law Bill Ahern. She is survived by her children Ellen Ahern, Margaret (Ferg) Theibert, John (Ann) Exline, Liz (Mike) Mantsch, Mary Cay (Bill) Sabatino, Robert (Lynn) Exline, Judy (Pat) Grant, daughter-in-law Vista Exline, 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of St. Mary of the Springs Academy and The Ohio State University where she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. Much admired and loved by all, she dedicated her life to raising her family and enjoyed traveling with her husband, playing bridge and Scrabble, and serving in many philanthropic organizations. She had a strong faith and in her later years sang in the choir, attended Bible studies and tutored children in reading at St. Timothy Catholic Church.Family will receive friends from 4-7pm on Wednesday, Sept 25 at Egan-Ryan Northwest Chapel, 4661 Kenny Rd, Columbus 43220.
