Dennis Neal Shadbolt, 64, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away of cancer at his home on Friday, February 16, 2024. Dennis was born in Pierre, South Dakota on July 7, 1959 to Marvin (Bud) Shadbolt and Doris Shadbolt. He attended schools in Chamberlain, S.D., McCook Lake, S.D. and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1977. Dennis worked construction and was a member of Carpenters Local 948. He enjoyed going to the river, fishing, exercising, taking long walks, bicycling and watching sports…especially the Kansas City Chiefs. Dennis is survived by his girlfriend Frances Big Bear: her children, Joanie, John and Holly and 12 grandchildren; his mother, Doris Shadbolt; sister Sheila Ogan (Roger Modlin); brothers Gary (Barb) Shadbolt and Keith Shadbolt and 9 nieces and nephews and their families. Dennis was preceded in death by his father Marvin; brothers, David and Ronald Shadbolt; grandparents Albert and Rose Shadbolt, Carl Gunderson and Lila Knittle and his beloved dog, Butch.

Virginia “Teter” L. Gries, 77, of Sioux City, IA, passed away after a brief illness on February 14, 2024. She went to sleep on Valentine’s Day, which was a perfect day for her to go to sleep, because everyone loved her. A funeral service will be held Monday, February 19th at 5:00 p.m., with a visitation 1 hour prior at Seventh Day Adventist Church, 3636 Aspenwood, Sioux City, IA. Burial will be Tuesday, February 20th at 10:00 a.m. at Onawa City Cemetery. In honor of Virginia and her love for hats, the family requests that you wear a hat to the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Waterbury Funeral Service of Sioux City.Teter was born on September 2, 1946 in Sioux City, IA to Norman and Virginia (Pierce) Gries. She loved to travel with her mom, aunt and sister, traveling all over the United States. She also started going on bus trips in 2008 with her sister. Teter enjoyed social media, going to the senior center, the gym and spending time with family. She loved to work and had worked at Zenith and Aalfs Manufacturing before they both closed, and would often babysit for family and friends. Teter could often be seen wearing a hat that she made. She began crocheting homemade baby blankets for family and friends, and made hats which she donated to the Cancer Center. Teter was the family and friends personal alarm clock, calling to wake them up for work or church. She had a strong faith and was a member of Seventh Day Adventist Church.Those left to honor her memory include her siblings: Norman Gries, Carol (Bill) Vander Veen, Ruth (John) Hood, Duane Gries; half-sister, Cheryl Gries; and many nieces and nephews.She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Lonny Gries.

Saturday, February 17, 2024, at Goslar Funeral Home Chapel, with Evangelist Dale Wolf, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the United States Air Force. David Virgil was born November 16, 1949 in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, the son of Arnold and Elizabeth (Wheelbarger) Smith. He graduated from San Marcos High School and attended college in Susanville, California. David proudly served in the United States Air Force from December 11, 1969, until his honorable discharge on December 10, 1973. He worked for Crete Trucking in Moorhead, Iowa, for many years. David enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, hunting, and watching and feeding the birds. His favorite thing to do was to fish, anything and everything about fishing he enjoyed. David loved going to church. Faith was very important to him. David was known for “Handing out the Million Dollar Bills” to all the children in the area. Survivors include his brother, Michael (Ann) Smith of Hillsboro, Oregon; David’s best friends, LaVerne (Barbara) Holmberg of Onawa, Iowa, and their daughter, Abby (Axton) Dean of Onawa, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and many other friends.
