Sheila Dee (Herriman) Trombini (72) of Rhinebeck, New York, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, on September 10th, 2023. Her passing followed a long and hard-fought battle with Stage IV Appendix Cancer. Sheila was born to Gertrude (Decker) and Haskell Herriman on March 29th, 1951 in Poughkeepsie, New York. Sheila worked for ShopRite Super Markets for over 40 years, holding various positions, including the Front Office, Bakery Manager and Bookkeeper. Sheila married Gary J. Trombini in Rhinebeck in October of 1998. Sheila enjoyed spending time on her deck and by her pool with family and friends. She will always be remembered for the best Memorial Day BBQs and family trips every summer to Lake George. More than anything, Sheila enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Sheila was predeceased by her brother, Eugene Herriman, her sisters Jacqueline VanSteenburg and Gail Quinones, a cousin Debbie Stranski, her brother-in-law Wayne Trombini, sister-in-law Deanna Trombini and her mother and father-in-law, Dorothy and Eugene Trombini. Sheila is survived at home by her loving husband, Gary J. Trombini, her children Jeffrey (Erin) Curnan of Elizaville, Victoria (Doug) Mulqueen of Saugerties, along with two stepchildren, Meghan Trombini of Red Hook and Eugene (Kara) Trombini of Charlotte, North Carolina. Additionally, Sheila is also survived by her brother Clayton (Sharon) Herriman of Pleasant Valley, her brother David (Ann) Cole of Rhinebeck, sister-in- law Nancy of Highland, brother-in-law Juan Quinones of Kinderhook and sister-in-law Joan (Bill) Trombini of South Carolina. Sheila is also survived by eight grandchildren: Lilly and Jaxon, Garrett and Julia, Gianna and Domanic and Calvin and Colette. She also had many nieces, nephews and dear friends and family. Mary Esther Tumasian, 84, a longtime Olivebridge resident, passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY. Born on January 21, 1939, in Godeffroy, NY, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Janie (Aber) Nielson. Mary married Joseph J. Tumasian on May 25, 1957 in Port Jervis, NY. Joe predeceased her in July 2021. Together they shared a beautiful 64 years hand in hand. Wherever Joe could be found, Mary stood gracefully by his side with a warm smile and a kind word for all. With a heart woven from love and laughter, she seamlessly blended into the fabric of her family and friends' existence, becoming the very soul of their collective story. Her days were a tapestry of shared moments, marked by the joyous echoes of children's laughter as she gently pulled her grandkids in a wagon for miles. They will cherish those memories for time to come. Mary is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Paul) Christiana of Florida, and Angelina (Ross) Singer of Port Ewen, NY; her grandchildren, Joseph (Alexandra) and Matthew; her great granddaughter, Angelina; her siblings, Shirley Swartwood, Frank (Carol) Nielson, and Henry Nielson; her many nieces and nephews of whom she adored; in addition to extended family and friends. In addition to her husband, Mary is predeceased by her brother in law, Bun Swartwood, and sister in law, Gail Nielson. A special note of gratitude to Susan Leighty and Joann Grazier, whom were a source of grace and guidance through Mary's life. Rhinebeck - Hans G. Boehm, 96, died November 21, 2023. He was born in Vienna, Austria in 1927. After serving in World War II, he earned his engineering degree at the Technical University in Austria. As a Fulbright Scholar, he then earned his Master's degree through the University of Florida in Gainesville. In 1951, he made his way to the United States on a visa from Austria to work at the Bell Telephone Labs in New York City. There he met his future wife, Mary, whom he married in 1956. Three years later, the family moved to Poughkeepsie, New York, where Hans changed his field from telephone design to computer development with IBM. The family moved to Rhinebeck, New York in 1965 to be near the Kingston IBM facility. Their four children attended Rhinebeck public schools and Hans served on the school board for eight years, five as president. It was the first of his many volunteer services to the community. Upon retirement, he was employed by the Census Bureau, served as treasurer for the Library Board and the Quitman Resource Center, and spent over 20 years volunteering for Meal-on-Wheels and stewarding Burger Hill. Hans loved his backyard birds and kept them well-fed. He even made peace with the squirrels. He is survived by his wife and four children: Susan Smith (Eric); Hans Martin Boehm (Cathleen); Mary Ann Dougherty (Marsh); Elizabeth Boehm (Paul Rudeen); and six grandchildren. They have been his pride and joy. He will be dearly missed by his wife Mary of 67 years and his family and friends. There are no Calling Hours. Jeffrey Edmond Hanna, 81, passed away on November 12, 2023, at Westchester Medical Center from the onset of leukemia. He was born in 1942 in Cleveland, OH, graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, then worked for 36 years in education. He retired from the West Park Union Free School District of Ulster County in 2000 where he worked for 27 years, rising from Social Studies teacher to Superintendent of the District. He served as Board Chairperson of the Ulster County United Way and led a fundraising challenge that raised over $1 million dollars for the needs of the community. He also served 5 years as a valued Board member of the Red Hook Golf Club. Jeff was a caretaker of those he loved. He made sure that family members had things like safe cars with good tires, and that they knew someone to call for counsel on all topics, large and small. In a crisis, Jeff would quietly take over the details and shepherd everyone through the predicament. He was a quiet but effective leader. He was rebellious by nature and fought for what he believed in. Jeff had passionate political opinions, and you always knew where he stood on the issues at hand. He was a voracious reader, loved to play golf and he generously shared his love of Lebanese food with family and friends. Jeff was a loving husband, devoted father, fun-loving brother, and a cherished friend. He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Virginia; four stepchildren and their families, Deb Ranicar of N. Granby, CT, David and Charmaine Groves of Baltimore, MD, Victoria and Kevin McLaren of Ulster Park, NY, and Joseph and Jill Garone; and 6 grandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters and their families, Wendy Hannigan (Robet), Jackie Zigman (Rick), and Deb Jacob (Gary). A Celebration of Life will be held next spring. Rhinebeck- Lieselotte Hatesaul (Lisa), a long-time resident of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away peacefully at home on the evening of November 10, 2023 with her loving daughters at her side. She was born in Memsen, Germany on November 21, 1929, the daughter of Fritz and Lina Bitter. In 1954 she emigrated to the United States and the following year married Frederick Hatesaul on June 11, 1955 in Brooklyn, NY. They moved to Rhinebeck in 1962. Fred predeceased her in 2011. She and her husband Fred were long-time members of the Germania-Poughkeepsie Singing Society and the Kingston Mannerchor and Damenchor Choir. They were devoted members of the Third Lutheran Church in Rhinebeck. She, alongside her husband and daughter Anne, were very active members of the Rhinebeck Rheinbach Exchange Program. Lisa worked in the Rhinebeck Grand Union Deli for many years. She was made manager of the International Cheese Dept. , when it was created and took great pride in making it a regionally impressive success. Her enthusiasm, product knowledge, and wanting to provide her customers with the best possible service shown through in her customer interactions and her achievements as a manager. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Frederick in 2013 as well as her siblings, Hilde, Walter, Fritz, Willi, and Horst. She is survived by her daughters Christina Hatesaul and Anne Lisa Hatesaul Lane(Laurence); daughter-in-law Donna Craft Hatesaul; grandsons Christopher Lane, Nikolaus Hatesaul, and William Hatesaul as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family in Germany. A Calling Hour will be held at the Third Lutheran Church, 31 Livingston St. , Rhinebeck on November 16, 2023 from 10am to 11am. Funeral services will begin at 11 am. Rhinebeck - Susan H. Ellis, 77, a longtime resident of Rhinebeck, passed away on November 12, 2023 at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck. Born on November 14, 1945 in Rhinebeck, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Humphries) Hoffman. Susan grew up in Red Hook, NY, being raised on the Hoffman's Family Farm and graduating from Red Hook High School in 1963. From there, she attended Vassar College, receiving her BA in Geology in 1967. She married the love of her life James Ellis in Red Hook in 1967 and they remained local to the Dutchess County area. James passed away in 2008. Susan's interest in sciences sparked her career in Conservation. Over the years she worked for several environmental agencies inspecting waterways, trails, and the local wildlife for potential hazards. In later years, she found a passion for antiques and started her own business, Ellis Eclectics, where she set up items from shops in Great Barrington all the way to Hyde Park. Susan loved animals, often rescuing cats and dogs that needed a little extra care. She once nursed a cat back to health after being shot by an arrow. She also enjoyed going to local music events at cafes like Taste Budds or the Morton Library. Susan is survived by a daughter, Jennifer (John Scollo) Ellis of WA, her brothers Roger (Pam) Hoffman, Jonathan (Debby) Hoffman, and David (Scottie) Hoffman as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her husband James, she was predeceased by a sister Barbara Close. A Memorial Hour will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Rhinebeck - Carol M. Saatmann, 85, of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away on Tuesday November 7, 2023 at Vassar Brother's Medical Center in Poughkeepsie, NY with her family by her side. Born on May 28, 1938 in the Bronx, NY, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Marie Humburg. Carol graduated in 1956 from Walton High School in the Bronx, then moved to Miami Beach, FL in 1957 with her mother. There she went to water skiing school before moving again with her mother to San Diego, CA. It was in San Diego, CA that she met Peter Saatmann. They wed on June 16, 1962 in San Diego where they lived until 1969. In 1969 they moved to Saugerties, NY for Peter's job at IBM, then settled in Rhinebeck in 1972 where they lived until both of their passings. Before starting her family, Carol got her cosmetology license and worked cutting hair until 1969. In 1964 she became a loving full-time mom. In between raising her children, carol served on the Missions Board and Fellowship Ministry Committee for the First Baptist Church of Rhinebeck. She was also involved in the Women's Auxiliary and volunteered for many years at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck. In 1995 Carol became a nanny to twins, boy and girl, until 2004, but stayed life long friends. In 2005 Carol became a home health aide with Unlimited Home Health Care of Rhinebeck until 2011. She cared for her clients with faithful compassion and love. Carol has a passion for gourmet cooking and cake decorating, she even made a replica cake of the First Baptist Church for its dedication. She enjoyed making flower arrangements, quilting, China painting, playing the piano, bird watching, picnicking at Lake Taconic or North Lake, and most of all spending time with her family every summer camping in the Adirondacks in the family camper and boat right by the water. Survivors include daughter Monique M. Johnson (Tom) of Tivoli, NY, son Eric Saatmann of Rhinebeck, NY, and her grandson Peter Johnson. She is also survived by a nephew, Ed Hackman. She was predeceased by her husband Peter, who passed at the early age of 48, and a sister Lynn Bell. Barbara Grace Montoya, 64, a longtime Rhinebeck resident, passed away on Thursday, November 9, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Born on November 4, 1959, in Szczecin, Poland, she was the daughter of the late George and Urszula (Szybowicz) Holtz. In November 1973, George, Urszula, Barbara and older sister, Irena emigrated from Szczecin to the United States to give their daughters greater opportunities. They settled in Poughkeepsie, New York, and Barbara attended Poughkeepsie High School, where she was very social and had many adoring friends, even as she was learning English. Barbara worked in several roles as a young woman, including as a phlebotomist and bank teller. Ralph Montoya fell in love with Barbara when he met her at her work in 1992. They married on November 13, 1993, in Poughkeepsie, NY, and gave birth to the light of their lives, their beautiful daughter Marci Maria Montoya, in June of 1995. Barbara and Ralph made countless memories on vacations to Florida and Maine, raising Marci and later visiting her in Los Angeles, spending time with Barbara's parents in Poughkeepsie, and enjoying each other's company. She dedicated her life to creating a warm and loving home for her family, embracing her role as a homemaker with unwavering devotion. Barbara found joy in life's simple pleasures, relishing shopping excursions, gardening, sun-kissed days at the beach or at the pool, and her lunches out with friends. Above all, her greatest passion was spending cherished moments with her family, and her love for her daughter Marci was immeasurable. Marci was the greatest joy of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the memories she created with all of those who were fortunate enough to share her life. In addition to her loving husband Ralph of 30 years, Barbara is survived by her only daughter Marci Montoya, her sister Irena Holtz Black, and niece Holly Black. Bozrah, Ct. - Priscilla M. Forschler, 92, passed away, Sunday, October 29, 2023 at the home of her son in Clinton Corners, NY. Priscilla grew up on the family farm in Griswold and was a longtime resident of Bozrah. She graduated as the salutatorian from Griswold High School in 1948 and from Middlebury College in 1952. She continued to revel in the Middlebury community. She attended an alumni college there into her 90's, and a highlight of her later years was attending her 70th college reunion. Priscilla had a 27-year career as a social worker in various capacities with the State of Connecticut, most recently in the Department of Children and Youth Services, retiring in 1991. She later served as the Director of Social services for North Stonington. Born November 13, 1930, in Norwich, Ct. , she was the daughter of George and Ethel (Roode) Norman. Her brother Ernest still lives on the family farm with his wife Elizabeth. She was predeceased by her brother Stuart Norman (Lucille). Priscilla is survived by her children, Kathryn Forschler of Bozrah, Stephen (Beth) Forschler of Clinton Corners, NY and Robert Forschler, Jr. of Griswold. She delighted in her two grandchildren, Emily (Matthew) Hahn and Nathan (Anna) Forschler and her six great grandchildren. Priscilla lived a full life and enjoyed theatre at the Good Speed Opera House and exhibits at many local museums. She served as treasurer of Park Congregational church until recently and had loved to volunteer at the BOCC gift shop. Priscilla enjoyed many long friendships, including a group of ladies with whom she played bridge for over fifty years. She particularly enjoyed the family beach cottage at Groton Long Point. Funeral services are Saturday, November 4th, 1 PM, at the Park Congregational Church, Norwich. The family will receive friends and family beforehand at 12 noon.
