Obituary of James Dennis Oglesbee, Sr. James Dennis Oglesbee, Sr. , age 80, passed from this life on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at his residence in Lima, Ohio. He was born on April 26, 1943 to Milton Wesley and Thelma (Richey) Oglesbee, Sr. Both parents preceded him in death. Mr. James Dennis Oglesbee, Sr. was united in holy matrimony to Virginia Ann Patrick on February 8, 1964. His loving wife survives him in Lima, OH. James worked as a laborer at General Motors Corporation for 28 years. He was a member of the UAW Local 211. In his retirement years, he cut grass, did landscaping and snow removal. He also worked at the Bradfield Center as a building Supervisor. He was referred to as the "Granddaddy of the Bradfield". James leaves to cherish his memory 2 sons: James D. (Karen S. ) Oglesbee, Jr. and Patrick L. (Juanita) Oglesbee, both of Lima, OH. 1 daughter, Michelle R. Oglesbee of Columbus, OH. 1 sister, Paula Rowe of Lima, OH and 1 brother, Robert Oglesbee of Los Lumas, NM. 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren. A host of other relatives and friends. Ruth E. Griesdorn, 86, of Saint Marys, died 6:09 P. M. Saturday, November 25, 2023, at St Ritas Medical Center, Lima, Ohio. She was born April 24, 1937, in Saint Marys, the daughter of Edgar and Lillian (Linton) Henning. She married Robert Griesdorn on April 25, 1959, and he preceded her in death on November 29, 2022. She is survived by her children: Tamara (Bruce) McEvoy of Midland, Ohio; Diane (Jack) Steen of Celina; Ron (Gina) Griesdorn of Mendon; Larry (Lesa) Griesdorn of Lima; Zachary Micheal of Saint Marys. She is survived by her 19 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; by her brother, Paul (Mary) Henning of Saint Marys; by her sisters-in-law, Betty Henning of Kentucky; Ann Griesdorn of Loveland, Ohio; her brother-in-law, Don (Pat) Griesdorn of Naples, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and her siblings: John Ward; Lester Ward; Helen Chioromonte; Edgar Henning; Ida Mae Deitsch; Iona Berning; Robert Henning. Ruth was a graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. She retired from Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in Saint Marys, where she worked in the Dietary Department. She was a lifelong member of Saint Paul's United Church of Christ in Saint Marys. Her greatest joy was gardening and spending time with her family. Funeral rites will be held 10:30 A. M. H. Daniel Mason, 81, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center surrounded by family. Daniel was born on January 5, 1942, in Lima, Ohio to Daniel and Vina (Gibson) Mason. On February 11, 1962, he married Andrea (Marcum) Mason who survives in Lima. Daniel was an avid bowler and bowled with the Senior League Evans Construction. His average was 202. He loved baseball and was a big Cincinnati Reds fan. Dan was also a Deacon at Lighthouse Baptist Church and he also used to lead music at church. Along with his wife, he is survived by his children, Geronda (Lee) Plagman and Jodi (Matt) Schaefer; grandchildren, Lisa (Kevin) Hart, Amanda (Paul) McCoy, John (Jackie) Frueh, Kelsey (Jeremy) Fiedler, Megan (Dylan) Spees, and Drew Schaefer; 13 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; siblings, Thelma Dozier, Mollie Bess, Cleo Hagerdon, Gary Mason, and June Clark; and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his in-laws, Leon and Martha Marcum; and siblings, Clara Smith and Jack Mason. After a brief battle with cancer, Max F. Meek III, 48, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Mercy Health St. Rita's Medical Center, surrounded by his family. Max was born on May 19, 1975, in Greensboro, North Carolina to Max and Pamela (Schmunk) Meek. Max was an amazing father, and his children were his pride and joy. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Known as a Mr. Fix it, Max loved people and would go out of his way to help others. He also loved Michigan football. Most of all Max loved his children, his family, and friends. Along with his parents, he is survived by his children, Allison Meek, Mitchell Meek, and Joseph Meek; a sister, Melissa (Joby) Watkins; and nieces and nephews, Jacob Delp, Mekenna (Devon) McVicker, Zachary Watkins, and Caden Watkins; a great-niece, Zoey McVicker; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. CANFIELD — Carol A. Duda Eberts, 88, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of Monday, Nov. 20, 2023, at Hospice of the Valley Hospice House in North Lima. She lived a life filled with love of family and friends from her neighborhood, church and community. Her great love of conversation and social activities endeared her to those who were fortunate enough to have known her as a friend. Born March 2, 1935, in Pittsburgh, Pa. , the daughter of Ruth A. Kunkle Davis and Charles S. Davis, Carol was curious and tenacious, participating in non-traditional sports for girls like the high school rifle club. After graduating from Millvale High School, she married her high school sweetheart, Don Duda, and together they had four children. In 1968, they moved to Canfield and quickly engaged with the local school, 4-H, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, as well as the Canfield Fair, where Carol was well known for her award-winning sewing and baking talents. Carol’s talents did not stop there. With a mind for numbers, she worked in the accounting department at AA Samuels Sheet Metal, accounts payable at Union National Bank, downtown Youngstown, and as a teller at Bank One on Belmont and Mahoning avenues. She also volunteered at Zion Lutheran Church Preschool and St. Elizabeth Hospital before retiring to spend time with her second husband and her many grandchildren. In 2021, Carol moved to The Inn at Ironwood, where she enjoyed a host of activities and fun-filled outings with her many new friends. Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her older sister, Nancy (Jack) Kelly; and husband, Donald Eberts, whom she married in June of 1985; and following his death after 29 years of marriage, her constant companion was Margaret Ann, her beloved Pekinese pup. Carol is survived by her children. Barbara (Mark) Chimel, Shari Carlozzi (Mark Strait), Donald (Carla) Duda Jr. , Nancy Ramunno, Debbie (Rich) Anderson and Cindy Lemmon; her 12 grandchildren, Derek Chimel, Andrea (Rajan) Jabbal, Matthew (Brittany) Carlozzi, Daniel Carlozzi, Monica Ramunno, Mark (Erica) Ramunno, Michael Ramunno (Corinn Link), Mario Ramunno, Donald (Anna) Duda III, Annamarie Duda (Mike Ginnis), Lauren (Tim) Foster and Eric (Isabella) Lemmon; and four great-grandchildren. Shirley Janelle Huckeriede, 87, of St. Marys, OH passed away at 4:30 a. m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at Vancrest of St. Marys. She was born January 26, 1936, in Botkins, OH to Henry Herman and Hattie (Stienecker) Kuck. On May 5, 1956, she married Robert W. Huckeriede, who died December 9, 2011. On August 2, 2014, she was then joined to James Niemeyer in a Christian Commitment Relationship service. James passed away on February 10, 2016. Survivors include son, David (Jan) Huckeriede of Lima, OH; son, Richard "Dick" (Nan) Huckeriede of St. Marys, OH; daughter, Suzann (Doug) Pusser of, Sunbury, OH; daughter, Laura (Mark) Maag of Ottawa, OH; step-children: Annette (Dean) Haberkamp, Kent (Annette) Niemeyer, Marta (Jesse) Hegemier, Michael Niemeyer; grandchildren: Brian (Jackie) Huckeriede, Thomas Huckeriede, David Pusser; step-grandchildren: Michael R. (Nicole) Terry II, John Steinke, Ashley (Philip) Luersman, Katie Maag, Zack (Stacy) Ferrall, Ally (Jesse) Meyer, Macy Ferral; great-grandchildren: Aiden Huckeriede, Finn Huckeriede; step-great-grandchildren: Michael R. Terry III, Cecelia Luersman; sister-in-law, Cindy Huckeriede of Garett, IN; brother-in-law, Robert Rutkowski of Centerville, OH; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents and both husbands; grandson, Anthony David Huckeriede; granddaughter, Madison Pusser; sister, Verna Glick Hatcher; sister, Carol Moss; brothers-in-law: James Huckeriede, James Moss and Edward Glick; sister-in-in-law, Mary Lou Rutkowski. Shirley was a graduate of New Knoxville High School (Class of 1953). She retired from Bank One, where she worked as a teller for many years. In addition, she assisted her husband, Bob, with the operation of Huckeriede Lawn Service. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, where she sang in the choir and was part of the Search, Evangelism and Community committees. Her favorite pastimes included playing card games (Bridge, Euchre, Sheephead and Pinochle). She also enjoyed taking cruises and road trips, having visited each of the 50 states along with her husbands. Rites are scheduled to begin at 4:00 p. m. on Friday November 24, 2023 at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys. Final resting place will be the Elm Grove Cemetery in St. Marys. Visitation 1:00 - 4:00 p. m. on Friday at the funeral home. Susan A. Powell, 81, passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at The Springs of Lima. Susan was born on July 19, 1942, in Spencerville, Ohio to William and Oliva (Stelzer) McDonough. On October 14, 1967, she married James N. Powell who survives in Lima. Sue and Jim shared 56 years of great marriage. She enjoyed her family, her brothers, sisters, kids, and grandkids. Sue was always supportive of her kids and grandkids. She also supported numerous families through childcare for many decades. Sue was loyal, hardworking, supportive, and happy. She and Jim enjoyed many winters in Florida. Sue was a parishioner at St. Gerards Church, and she had an unwavering faith. Sue lived a Cursillo weekend in 1997. Daniel P. Bekar, age 74, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and mentor of Columbiana passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023 at the Hospice House in North Lima surrounded by loved ones. Dan was born on March 17, 1949 in Rochester, PA, the eldest son of Daniel and Gatha Rayburn Bekar. Dan graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1967 having been a pivotal member of the ELHS Football and Gymnastics teams. After high school, he attended Kent State University earning a Bachelor of Education. After graduating from Kent State, Dan began his teaching career in Stow, OH before moving to Columbiana where he spent the rest of his career. His time at the Columbiana schools was spent teaching, coaching, and mentoring elementary, middle school, and high school students. Dan taught Industrial Arts, Health, and Phys Ed classes at Columbiana High School, Columbiana Middle School, and Joshua Dixon Elementary Schools. Dan was also heavily active in coaching the High School Football and Wrestling teams for many years where he became affectionately known by many names such as "Mr. B. ", "Dan the Man", and "The Ogre" among others by his students and athletes. Dan helped shape the success of his students and athletes not only in the classroom and through sports, but also in their lives. Dan was named Coach of the Year for Wrestling and was inducted into the Columbiana Hall of Fame in 2020. Upon his retirement from Columbiana Schools, he became certified in OSHA Training and worked at McMaster's Farms as a safety director. Dan was very active within the Columbiana community not only as a teacher and coach, but also as a business owner, Columbiana City Council, Columbiana City Planning Commission, Sons of the American Legion (locally and at the state level), and the Columbiana Hall of Fame Committee. Dan was also a Master Mason at Negley Lodge 565 F&AM. Dan loved being active within the community and took great pride as a member of the American Legion Color Guard to honor those who served our country. Dan was a beloved member of the community particularly by his students. There are countless stories of his mentorship describing his influence in his student's lives. Dan is survived by his children Craig (Laurie) Putnam of Broadview Heights, Tammie (Paul) Birmingham of Girard, Pamela (George) Barton of Girard, Curt (Sheila) Putnam of Austintown, and Clay (Tina) Putnam of Michigan City, IN, brother Larry (Brenda) Bekar of East Liverpool, nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and friend Jean Bookman. Dan was preceded by the love of his life Donna Bekar, his parents Daniel and Gatha Bekar, and his niece Jackie Bekar Shultz.
