Vera Questa

Vera Questa

Age - 93

December 1, 2023

Brethren, we gather here to celebrate the homecoming of a beloved child of God, Sister Vera M. Questa, who walked faithfully upon this earth from the 21st of September in the year of our Lord, 1930, until the 27th of November 2023. Born under the open skies of Saint Bernard, Ohio, Sister Vera was a beacon of light throughout her life, and she has now been called to the Lord's embrace in the peaceful city of Austin, Texas, departing from us through the gentle passage of natural causes. Sister Vera was a testament to the strength and resilience of the human spirit. Though her formal education was momentarily paused as she cared for her ailing grandmother, she triumphantly returned to her studies, securing her GED with the determination that would come to define her. Her pursuit of knowledge did not cease there, for she ventured into night school, earning her degree as a bookkeeper, a vocation in which she served with diligence and grace, first at Mount Airy Hospital and later amidst the ranks of the Internal Revenue Service. In her earthly journey, Sister Vera was joined in holy matrimony to Brother Vincent Questa, who preceded her in glory. Together they crafted a family of love and legacy, a treasure she leaves behind in the hearts of her daughter, Catherine M. Nations; her grandchildren, Christina M. Pepper, Robert Nations, and Jennifer Henderson; and all those whose lives they have touched. Our sister's hands, ever busy and ever creating, found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was a formidable force on the bowling lanes, a solver of puzzles that confounded the mind, and together with her beloved Vincent, a silver medalist in pairs roller skating, gliding across the rink as though they were angels on wheels. Vera's creativity flourished in her ceramics shop, a place of creation and community, and in the quiet moments, her knitting needles clicked like a choir of crickets on a summer's eve, fashioning blankets and garments with love woven into every stitch. Sister Vera served with distinction as a commander for the auxiliary of disabled veterans, offering her strength and support to those who had borne the burden of battle. Her service was a testament to her faith-filled heart, a beacon of hope for those in need of comfort and camaraderie. To speak of Sister Vera is to speak of a soul who embodied friendliness, a woman whose creative spark ignited inspiration in others, and a faithful servant who walked hand in hand with her Lord and Savior. Her laughter was a melody that echoed in the halls of fellowship, her counsel a balm to troubled hearts, and her presence a gift of immeasurable worth. As we bid farewell to Sister Vera, let us not dwell in the valleys of sorrow, but rather let us lift our eyes to the hills, from whence cometh our help. For in the tapestry of life, each thread Vera wove was one of joy, kindness, and unwavering faith. Her legacy is etched not only in the memories of those she loved but in the very fabric of the community she so cherished. So let us rejoice, for Sister Vera M. Questa has finished her course, she has kept the faith, and now she rests in the eternal peace of our Heavenly Father. Her journey on this earth has concluded, but her spirit soars in the heavens, dancing among the stars, forever a part of the celestial chorus singing praises unto the Most High. May her soul, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p. m. until 6:00 p. m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at Harrell Funeral Home. The Funeral Ceremony will be held at 10:00 a. m. on Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at Harrell Funeral Home. A Graveside Ceremony will be held at 11:00 a. m. on Monday, December 11, 2023, at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.Show more
