Shawn P. Norman passed away unexpectedly last Friday, September 9, 2023, in Superior, Wisconsin. He was born on August 30, 1989, in Duluth. Shawn graduated from Solon Springs High School and attended Arizona State University and WITC. He became a successful entrepreneur who managed and owned several rental properties in Duluth and Superior. His passion was transforming a house to a home by remodeling it himself. This also included using his green thumb for gardening. Shawn was always there for his family and friends. He was a reliable, trustworthy son, brother, and friend. Shawn loved arranging events and adventures for others to enjoy. He taught his family and friends to take chances and try new things. Seizing the best life has to offer. He loved animals including his pet cats and fish. Believing the words of Helen Keller "Life is either an adventure or nothing at all" Shawn always took the scenic road as he traveled Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Caribbean in search of adventure. He tested his limits by skydiving, scuba diving, cliff diving, driving a tank and traversing Europe on his own. He was known for his contagious smile, ability to dig in and work hard and his desire to see others have a good time. An avid camper, he loved hiking and kayaking in the wild. The son of Karl and Sandra, he is survived by his mother and siblings, Thomas, James, Jason, Jessica and several nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his business partner and ex-wife, Savannah and close friend, Ashley and her daughter, Mara. Roger Duane Kolquist of Superior, Wisconsin passed away while resting peacefully on September 3, 2023. Roger was the tenth child born to Thure and Esther Kolquist on February 7, 1935. Roger married Barbara Schilling in 1956, and together they had three children, Scott, Kim, and Kathryn. Roger attended Central High School and graduated in 1953. After high school, he served in the Air National Guard for eight years. He then worked for N. W. Bell Telephone Co. , the Kolquist Bros Conoco Station on Piedmont Avenue, Lakehead Electric, and Harbor City Oil. He was especially proud of his work as Job Foreman during the construction of the Tri-Towers and the Ramsey Manor and of his work within the family businesses. Roger retired in 1986. He and Barb divided their time between Sarasota, Florida, their lake home in Gordon, Wisconsin, and their primary residence in Superior, WI. Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Thure and Esther Kolquist; his brothers Clarence, Roy, Kenneth, Wallace, and Donald; his sisters Florence, Alice, and Ann. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Kolquist; their children Scott (Jody) Kolquist (Gordon, WI), Kim (Dan) Nahan (Sartell, MN), and Kathryn Kolquist (Spokane, WA); brother Clifford (Audrey) Kolquist; sister-in-law Pat Kolquist; grandchildren Aaron Kolquist (McKenzie Mears), Danielle (Krisna) Sorathia, Jillian Kolquist, Ryan (Baylee) Nahan, Matthew (Genna) Nahan, and Lindsay Kolquist (Dominic Rosati); great-grandchildren Joelle, James, and Graham; and many nieces, nephews, and their families. On the night of Roger’s passing, his family found the poem, "A Fisherman’s Prayer," in his bedroom: "God, grant that I may live to fish until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray. When in the Lord’s safe landing net I’m peacefully asleep, That in His mercy I be judged as ‘big enough to keep’. " The family would like to thank Dr. Timothy Kleinschmidt and the staff at Villa Marina Health and Rehabilitation Center for their wonderful care. Kayla Rae DelVecchio, 34, of Superior WI, passed away on May, 29, 2023 at St. Mary's Medical Center (Duluth) with her family beside her after years battling multiple health issues. Kayla was born on January 31, 1989 to Deanna Wedan of Superior, WI, and Alan DelVecchio of Duluth, MN. Kayla graduated from Superior Senior High School and then went on to attend Fond du Lac Community College and UWS to receive a degree in counseling people struggling with alcohol and drug addiction. She worked as an LADC at the Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment in Duluth MN until her illness made her unable to continue working. Kayla was a mother and loved her children deeply. She loved to help people in need. She had a great sense of humor and loved to talk and laugh. The world was a better place with her in it and she will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by her great-grandmother Carmen Cerio and grandmother Lillian DelVecchio. She is survived by her partner Justin "Dave" Taylor, son Elijah, daughter Kyra, mother Deanna (Mike) Wedan, father Alan (Candace) DelVecchio, brothers Ross (Anita) DelVecchio, Nathan DelVecchio, sisters Raechel DelVecchio-Carlson, StevieRae DelVecchio, Paige Wedan, grandfather Mike (Bev) Hansen, grandmother Diane Hansen, special auntie Nancy (Curt) Cody, close friends Ruby, Cassie, Danielle, and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 at the Duluth Gospel Tabernacle, 1515 W. Superior St. Duluth, MN 55806 with visitation at 10:00-11:00 am, service at 11:00-12:00 pm and luncheon to follow at the church in fellowship hall. Edward "Ed" A. Laureys, 86, lifelong resident of Superior, WI, died Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Superior Rehabilitation Center in Superior, WI. He was born on December 5, 1936. Ed was the beloved son and only child of Albert A. and Angeline L. Laureys. He grew up assisting his parents who ran the local grocery store in their neighborhood of Allouez. Ed's parents were Belgian immigrants who took pride in their family heritage. Edward married the love of his life Charlotte I. Laureys on August 2, 1969. Ed and Charwere active members of St. Anthony Catholic Church, the Belgium Club, and the Moose Lodge. He was a gifted accordion player and readily shared his love for music with others. He led the Duals Polka Band who were known regionally for their performances. The Duals performed for over thirty-five years and had a loyal following of polka lovers who would join them on bus tours all over the country including annual trips to polka festivals in Chicago, IL and Branson, MO. For decades Ed could be found most Friday nights playing the accordion with his band at the Moose Lodge in Superior, WI. As Duals fans aged and dispersed, Ed and company adapted and began entertainingresidents, staff, and their families at numerous local nursing homes with their upbeat polka music. When Ed wasn't traveling with his wife and playing in his band, he loved to garden, exercise, and spend time caring for his home and family cabin on Lake Amnicon. Ed took much pride in his well-manicured lawn and abundant vegetable garden. He also shared his love for Christmas and the holiday season each year with a beautiful Christmas light display. Ed spent most of his adult career working at Superior Vocations Center. He would often invite clients into his home for holiday meals when they had nowhere else to go. Ed loved being with his family and friends and enjoyed reminiscing about his life. He was a devoted husband and compassionate caretaker of his wife, Char, who suffered from dementia during her final years. Ed and Char celebrated fifty years of marriage before she passed away in February of 2020. Ed is survived by his three daughters, Carrie (Tim) Gallagher, Superior, WI, Pam (Rich) Pearson, Woodbury, MN and Cherese (Andy) Pearson, Ankeny, IA; eleven grandchildren, Craig (Brittany) Gallagher, Alissa (Jared) Anderson, Eric (Jenni) Gallagher, Jessica (Brian Anderson) Gallagher, Sean (Katie) Gallagher, MeganGallagher, Ricky (Jamie) Pearson, Tanner (Mary) Pearson, Hope (Tristen) Forstner, Mia Pearson and Bryer Pearson; sixteen great-grandchildren, good friend, Jeff Johnson, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his wife, Char, and his parents Albert and Angeline Laureys. Visitation will begin at 10:00 on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at St. Anthony Catholic Church. A Mass of Christian Burial with Rev. Fr. Andrew Ricci as celebrant will begin at 11:00 am with lunch to follow.Show more
