December 8, 2023

Sharon L. Griffith, 73, of Denton, Texas passed away at her home on December 4, 2023, surrounded by friends and family. Sharon was born on December 14, 1949, in Justin, Texas and graduated from Denton High School in 1968. Sharon had a true passion for serving others and was always the first one to lend a helping hand. She cared deeply about her friends and family and always looked for opportunities to show her love, never expecting anything in return. Whether it was hosting parties at her house, high school reunions, birthday parties or just visiting her friends and family, Sharon always found ways to celebrate and prioritize others. Sharon's hobbies included gardening, cooking, decorating pretty much anything that could be decorated, and all things Christmas. Every year, she would create a true winter wonderland at her house. Her plentiful Christmas trees, matching wrapping paper and bows, and absolute love for everything Christmas were unparalleled. A Christmas with Sharon was a spectacular event. However, her greatest passion in life was her grandchildren. Sharon relished her role as "Gigi" and took every possible opportunity she could to spend time with them, whether in person or over FaceTime. She was also a very proud Gigi, and if you ever spoke to her over the last decade or so, you probably heard everything about her beloved grandchildren. It was the role of her lifetime, and she played that role perfectly. In 2019, Sharon was diagnosed with lung cancer. To her, every day on Earth was another day to spend with her friends and family. She fought a long and courageous battle with the love of her life, Alan Calvert, by her side every step of the way. She showed strength and grace through her final days, while still serving others. Sharon is survived by her great love and partner of 25 years Alan Calvert; her three children, Scott Griffith, Chad (Milly) Griffith, and Lindsay (Kyle) Coker; grandchildren Harper, Natalie, Emma Grace, Ellis, Aubrey, Jack and Collins; and her mother, Imogene Evans.Show more

At an early age they moved to her beloved Dalhart, Texas where she spent her early years along with her sisters, Earlene and Colleen. They became known, in the family, as "the three perfect sisters". At the age of 19, she left Dalhart and moved to Grand Prairie, Texas to work for the First National Bank. It was there in February 1954 that she met the love of her life, Thomas Duane Puckett, while he was on a 30 day leave from the United States Navy. After a short courtship, they were married on April 30, 1954 in Camarillo, California. Together they had two children, Tom and Debra, who were her pride and joy. She was blessed with 3 grandchildren that were the loves of her life and 6 great grandchildren she adored. Joy and Duane lived in numerous locations, primarily in Texas, during their 69 years of marriage. Wherever they called home they became involved in their church and Joy was a devoted Christian. They had a gift of always making lifelong friends wherever they lived and thoughout those years enjoyed cherished times of fellowship and fun. They loved traveling and were blessed to experience so much in life. Joy retired from the Irving Independent School District at the age of 56 and was able to enjoy quality time with her family and friends. She will always be remembered by those that knew her as a lady of grace and eloquence. She was meticulous about her appearance and always admired by others with her classy attire. Joy was loved and adored by her husband and was truly inseparable from him. Duane was her sole caregiver for the past 8 years as Joy experienced more doctor visits, hospital stays and surgeries than one should ever have to endure. She was a strong fighter of life and never complained even in her last few years when she was dependent on Duane for her every need. She was the epitome of determination and perseverance.
