Barbara Ponder

Barbara Ponder

Age - 80

December 5, 2023

On August 9, 1943 Barbara Sue Ponder was born to Edney Rice and Fushia Chandler. A lover of flowers, animals and most of all, family are top of mind when her memory was discussed. Barbara had a great sense of humor and was a homemaker for her two daughters until 1992 when she began working in sales. Mrs. Ponder was a very detail oriented individual who enjoyed crossword puzzles and watching "Heartland" with her lovely dog "Cocoa" after her husband of nearly 51 years, Bill D. Ponder transitioned in 2016. Barbara had an affinity for flowers from early on in life, so much so, that she would often get in trouble with her grandma for picking from her garden when she visited. Barbara enjoyed cooking, baking, caring for her children and husband and did so affectionately, but make no mistake, this was a strong woman. She battled many years with pulmonary fibrosis even though her doctors only gave her 5 years to live in 2007; this feat she attributed to her stubborn nature. In her later years, Barbara Sue Ponder enjoyed telling the stories of her life experiences and reflecting on the good times. She was a member of Gateway Baptist church since 2015 and will be missed by many. She leaves behind a legacy of strength and abundant love of her grands and husband. Mrs. Ponder is survived by her two daughters: Courtney Payne, Sheila Barkwell ( Kevin), three grandchildren: Kenneth, Ariel and August and two great-grandchildren: Grayson and Harrison and a sister: Debra Rice. Though Barbara loved flowers, the family asks that donations in here honor be sent to action. lung. org or https://allevents. in/acworth/gateway-baptist-formerly-glade-road-baptist-church-acworth-ga/200023199866638Show more
