Sharon Deniese Gray, age 76, of Norman, passed away on September 8, 2023. She was born April 11, 1947, in Hereford, Texas, to the late Dale and Grace Tinnin. She grew up in Hereford, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Ron Gray. They were married at the First United Methodist Church of Hereford, on August 26, 1967. In 1976, they moved to Oklahoma City from Lubbock, Texas, and later settled in Norman, Oklahoma. Sharon received her Bachelors Degree and her Masters Degree in Reading from the University of Central Oklahoma. For over 25 years, she taught in both Moore and Western Heights Public Schools, teaching Kindergarten through 4th grade and retiring in the spring of 2005. Sharon was named teacher of the year multiple times throughout her career. She was a dedicated public school educator and was loved by her hundreds of students and her fellow educators. Sharon was a member of New Life United Methodist Church in Moore and later, St. Stephen's United Methodist Church in Norman. After her retirement from teaching, she served as the Director of Care Ministries at St. Stephen's for over a decade. Sharon was a dedicated servant and was loved and respected by everyone she had the opportunity to serve. She had friends everywhere she went, as she was warm and welcoming to all people in all walks of life. Sharon was an avid reader, reading religious studies and fiction books. She also enjoyed her canine companion, Raider. Raider was named after the Texas Tech mascot, as she was a loyal Red Raider fan. Her favorite times were those spent with her family and friends, especially her granddaughter, Addye Grayce. The love of her life was Ron. They grew up together, living on the same street, Star Street, in Hereford, Texas and attended the same church and schools. Ron and Sharon loved singing and dancing together. Their relationship was a perfect example of true, long lasting love. Ron and Sharon served as almost surrogate parents to so many and for many of Tracy's friends growing up. Sharon is fondly remembered by them for her witty comebacks, patience, and sense of humor and wise advice to all. A caring, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend to all, she will be deeply missed. Sharon is survived by her devoted husband of 56 years, Ronald Norman Gray; her daughter and son-in-law, Tracy Paige and Todd Skinner; her granddaughter, Addye Grayce Skinner; sister-in-law, Norma Grace Smith; and nieces and nephews, Kristi Cabbiness, Cory Springer, Charleine Neill, Colby Springer, John Smith, Judith Polansky and Jill Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Daleine Springer; and nephew, Jolby Springer. Randy Dale James was born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on December 10, 1979 to Clyde Dale James and Ilene Marie (Stephens) James. He entered the arms of Jesus on November 23, 2023 at the age of 43. Randy was a man of many trades. He worked for High Country Electric as an electrician and was a skilled handyman. One of the biggest highlights of Randy's life was marrying the love of his life, Diana Searcy December 12, 2021. Together, they were raising three beautiful children. He had more energy than the energizer bunny and liked to make everyone laugh. Randy enjoyed playing patticake with his daughter Lily, dancing with his daughter Tommie-Lynn, and collecting baseball cards with his son, Ethan. He was very proud of his family. Randy loved sports and was a die hard OSU fan. He was picky about his car and truck and washed them every day. He liked chrome so much that even the baby stroller had chrome wheels. Randy always smelled so good and made sure his shoes were clean. He was always a tough guy until it came to Lily's diapers. Randy was a member of the Damascus Men's Group through church and enjoyed helping with the prison ministry and helping churches with the homeless. He had a servants heart and loved the Lord. Two churches that were very special to Randy were Crossroads Church and Crosslight Ministries. He was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife, Diana; daughters, Lily James and Tommie Lynn Robertson; son, Ethan Robertson; brother, Larry James and husband Darin of Enid, OK; and a host of family and friends.Show more

Mercia Octia Devora Guy-Smith, a beloved wife, mother, and friend, passed away on November 11, 2023. Born and raised in Norman, she attended Norman High School and graduated in 2009. Mercia achieved her Certified Nursing Assistant (CAN) certification on November 6, 2023, exemplifying her dedication to caring for others. Mercia's journey of love and companionship began when she met Richard at his house. A chance meeting in the driveway blossomed into a profound connection, and it was evident to all that it was love at first sight. The couple exchanged vows on September 17, 2016, embarking on a beautiful journey together. A loving and devoted mother, Mercia leaves behind two cherished children, Kyliee and RJ, who were the lights of her life. She poured her heart and soul into creating a warm and nurturing home for her family. Beyond her role as a wife and mother, Mercia was a dear friend to many. She had a passion for helping others and took great joy in spending time with her friends. Her kindness and generosity touched the lives of those around her, leaving a lasting impact on the community. In her leisure time, Mercia found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid fan of reality TV shows, with a particular fondness for the Kardashians. Her laughter and enthusiasm while watching these shows brought joy to those who shared these moments with her. Mercia Octia Devora Guy-Smith will be remembered for her loving spirit, compassionate heart, and the joy she brought to the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. Garland Monroe Dickson, Jr. died November 25, 2023, in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 75 years 9 months 30 days. Graveside services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 30, 2023, at the Hillside Cemetery, entrusted to the care of Wadley’s Funeral Service. Garland was born January 26, 1948, in Hot Springs, Arkansas to Garland and Geneva (Plummons) Dickson. Garland Sr was a farmer, and in the military, so the family moved all over the country, so Garland Jr attended many schools throughout the country. He met Barbara Trotter in 1971, they were united in marriage on January 26, 1979, and celebrated 44 years of marriage, but 52 years together. Garland worked many jobs during his life including being a carpenter, truck driver, and business owner. He and Barbara owned and upholstery company for many years. Garland enjoyed traveling, watching movies, reading, and the mountains of Colorado. He also enjoyed woodworking and would often make toys and cradles for the kids. Above all else, Garland loved spending time with his wife and family, enjoying a good meal. Garland was selfless and would help anyone he could. Garland is preceded in death by his father, Garland Dickson, Sr. ; his mother, Geneva Dickson; his sister, Patricia Maupin; his stepdaughter, Julia Jones; and his son-in-law, Thomas McCarthey. Survivors include his wife, Barbara Dickson; his son, Clint Abner and wife, Christine; his daughter, Christina Dickson; his daughter, Lisa McCarthey; his brother, Calvin Dickson; his grandchildren, Jessica Beachy, Latasha Irby, Sara Jones, Jessica Jones, and Brittany Jones; his two great grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Raymond Trotter; his niece and nephews, Kris Maupin, Scott Maupin, Jenny Maupin; his great niece, Bryanna Maupin; his great-great nephew, Axle Maupin; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.Show more

"A Celebration of Life for Jamie Sue LaMunyon will be held 1:00 p. m. Saturday, December 2, 2023, at the Multi-Purpose Room at the Waynoka Public School. Interment will be in the Waynoka Municipal Cemetery under the direction of Marshall Funeral Home of Waynoka. Jamie Sue, daughter of the late Jimmie Earl and Georgia Mae (Drake) Jameson, was born on June 13, 1946 in Blackwell, Oklahoma. Jamie passed away on Thanksgiving Day, 2023, in Norman, Oklahoma, surrounded by her family. She graduated from Enid High School in 1965. On January 18, 1992, she married the love of her life, Wayne LaMunyon. They made their first home in Enid, Oklahoma, where she owned and operated JL Marketing. She was the owner of the NIFL team, Oklahoma Crude, whose games were played at the Garfield County EXPO Center and throughout the Midwest. Jamie was instrumental in planning and promoting the community response rally in 1995 when the BRAC Commission visited for the possible closure of Vance Air Force Base, with over 12,000 Enid and Northwest Oklahoma residents appearing to show their support. This massive community support was credited as a factor in the retention of Vance Air Force. Jamie also organized the Pride of America Rally a month after 9/11 at the David Allen Ballpark in Enid, with the greatest attendance record ever recorded that day at the venue. Wayne and Jamie moved to Waynoka in 2004 where she fed the entire town at Miss Jamie's Lunch Counter for close to twenty years. She loved, and was loved by the entire city, and Duners from all over the region. Jamie was involved in organizations including: PEO, Junior League, Ambucs, and League Ladies. Jamie volunteered, put together and helped plan and implement many of the holiday parades and festivals in Waynoka. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Wayne LaMunyon, and her sister Cindi Broaddus. Jamie is survived by her daughters Jill Michelle Kennedy and her husband, Bryce, of Norman, and Jennifer Brooke Gurwell of Aiea, Hawaii; son Griff Jameson Gurwell and his wife, Sharon, of Kansas City, Kansas; seven grandchildren, Nicholas Butler, Tyler LaMunyon, Daniel Gurwell, Stewart Kennedy and wife Taylor, Natalie Kennedy, John Jae Happy Camp, and Madison Camp; three great grandchildren; her brother Roger Jameson; her sisters, Karen Branch and her husband, Jackie, of Comanche, and Robin McGraw and her husband, Phil, of Los Angeles, California; many other family members and friends. Memorial Contributions may be made through the funeral home to food pantry, Waynoka. Arlesa Katherine Tarver passed away peacefully at the age of 102 on Thanksgiving Day, November 23, 2023, at her home in Norman, Oklahoma surrounded by her loving family. Arlesa was born on March 6, 1921, to parents Walter and Ollie Valentine in eastern Cleveland County and moved with her family to Norman around the age of 5 and lived in Norman the rest of her life. In 1929 at the age of 8 years old she became a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and remained so until her death making her the longest living parishioner in the Church's history. She was a wonderful wife to J. D. Tarver and often helped in the daily operations of their businesses. She raised three children and was a second mother to many others, related and unrelated. Anyone who knew her knew she loved a good card game and loved to win, and she won her last hand just two days before her passing. Up until the very end she had an impeccable memory and could captivate anyone with wonderful stories of family history and humor. She loved to laugh and did so often, even leading up to her final day. She was proceeded in death by her husband J. D. Tarver, son Jerry Tarver, daughter Jill Tarver, grandson Brent Tarver, her parents and all 5 of her siblings. She is survived by her son Jack Tarver, daughter-in-law Jo Tarver and daughter-in-law Reta Tarver, grandsons Kirk Tarver, Kent Tarver, Jarod Tarver and his wife Ashley Tarver, granddaughters Jamie Tarver, Emilee Tarver and her husband Ben Clair, great grandsons Ryker Tarver Anderson and Malcolm Clair-Tarver and her soon to be born great granddaughter Zelda Clair-Tarver. We would like to thank her niece, Leslie Valentine, for being such a loving caregiver of Arlesa over the past year and all the amazing staff at Infinity Hospice.
