Sharon Ann (Dodd) Dorwart, age 84, left her earthly life on May 9, 2023 at her home, in Waverly, IL. Sharon was born September 29,1938, to James and Opal (Moody) Dodd in Sangamon County. Sharon attended Waverly Schools, graduating with the class of 1956. She married her high school sweetheart William (Billy) Dorwart on March 9, 1957 in Loami, IL. He preceded her, in death, in 2022. She is survived by two daughters, Kelly (Randy) Shearburn of Jacksonville, Janice (Scott) Lancaster of Palmyra and a daughter-in-law, Carrie Dorwart of Waverly. Also surviving are four grandchildren: Jed (Tasha) Lancaster and Zach (Amy) Lancaster of Modesto, LeAnn Shearburn of Dallas TX. and Keith (Joslyn) Dorwart of Pawnee and nine great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sharon was preceded in death by her son, Craig Dorwart and a grandson, Derek Shearburn, as well as her parents, sister MarJean (Dodd) Snider and brother Billy Jo Dodd. Sharon spent the first few years of married life at home raising their three children and sewing for her family and others. She worked later in several Waverly businesses including Ridings Dry Goods, The Waverly Journal and Kingston Insurance. Sharon retired from Wemple State Bank after 30 years. Sharon enjoyed spending time with her grandkids, and great grandkids. She continued to bless both family and friends with her talent for sewing. Sharon crafted many Christmas program costumes, cheerleading skirts and lovingly made both her daughters' and daughter-in-law's wedding dresses. She also enjoyed crafting and sharing handmade crafts as gifts. She and Bill enjoyed many years of camping with friends both in central Illinois and Florida. They also enjoyed several trips to Alaska. She was active in the community of Waverly, serving as an officer in both The Junior Womens Club and the Womens Club. She supported Bill with his duties in the Fire Dept. /Rescue Squad and the Waverly Old-fashioned Picnic committee. Sharon was committed to her family and the community. She worked diligently, behind the scenes, never wanting to be in the spotlight. She was always humble and emotionally strong. Memorials to Waverly Fire & Rescue and Illinois Concerns of Police Survivors. Funeral services will be held 11 a. m. Thursday (May 11, 2023) at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9 a. m. until the time of service Thursday at the funeral home.
