"James William Maynard, age 87, of the Morgan City Community, passed away at his residence on Friday, November 10, 2023. James was born in Madison County, Alabama on July 10, 1936, son of George Washington Maynard and Sinnie Beatrice Eakes Maynard. James joined the US Air Force two months before his eighteenth birthday. He retired from Arab Cartage Express where he was employed as a truck driver. He and wife, Sonja Tidmore Maynard, were married for over 34 years. James attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church. He loved reading and studying his Bible. During his leisure time James enjoyed playing pool and various card games. He loved traveling and had almost met the goal of visiting all 50 states. He spent a lot of time in southern Georgia and often went further south in order to go deep sea fishing. Family members left behind to cherish their precious memories of James include: wife, Sonja Maynard; daughters, Jammie Sides (Richard), Linda Payton (Ronnie), Jenny Prince (Larry), and Cyndi Hill (Howard); brother, Pat Maynard (Liz); sisters, Dorothy McMullen and Brenda McMullen; eighteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; and special friends, Venna Gray, Bryan and Brandy Mosley, Fred and Mirian Wilks, Dan and Jahn Ryan and Bobbie Nell Wade, Damon and Kristy Bramlett. Preceding James in death include: parents, George and Sinnie Maynard; son, James "Jay" Maynard, Jr. ; granddaughter, Calli Wilson; sister, Sheila Maynard; brothers, Johnny Maynard, G. W. Maynard, and David Maynard. Services for James will be at Brindlee Mountain Chapel on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Visitation will be between 12:00 noon and 2:00 p. m. Funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 2:00 p. m. with Brother Bryan C. Mosley and Brother Fred Wilks officiating. Interment will be in New Friendship Church Cemetery in the Union Grove community. Pallbearers are: John Tallent, Billy Prince, Brad Sides, Adam Sides, Chris Vickers, and Damon Bramlett.
