Scott Trent Smith, 61, passed away Monday, June 20, 2022, at his home following a brief illness. Scott was born January 27, 1961, in Asheville to Janice Melton Smith and the late G. D. Smith, Jr. He was a graduate of A. C. Reynolds High School and he worked in the family enterprises, Smithway, Inc. and Smith Farms, Fairview. Scott enjoyed horseback riding, camping, hunting, fishing and almost everything outdoors. In addition to his mother, Janice, his family includes his wife Tonya McLaughlin Smith; a son, Noland Smith; step-daughter Kristie McLaughlin; grandchildren, Trent and Nina; brothers, Rocky Smith (Dee), Rod Smith (Angie) and Tony Smith, as well as many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be at 5:00 p. m. Friday at the Conference Center of Smith Farms, 20 Smith Farms Road, Fairview. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital (donors@StJude. org) or to Volunteer Horsemen of the Smokies, 160 Curly Oaks Dr. , Clyde, NC 28721.
