Marie Blomquist, born on August 22, 1951, in New Haven, CT, passed away on November 20, 2023, at Middlesex Hospital in Connecticut after a short but courageous battle against Cancer. She was 72 years old. Growing up in Madison, CT, Marie graduated from Daniel Hand High School in 1969, marking the beginning of a life filled with remarkable experiences and contributions. Her career path was diverse as were her many passions and interests. She showcased her talent and dedication as a server and manager in several popular restaurants along the Connecticut shoreline. Additionally, she devoted part of her life working as a veterinary assistant in both Connecticut and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Marie possessed a profound affection for animals, a skillful finesse for dancing, and an ardent love for the music of Joni Mitchell, Huey Lewis, and many others. Her heart was open to all, embodying an inclusive spirit that touched countless lives. Among her cherished places, Old Orchard Beach, Maine held a special spot in her heart. Each July, she found joy in spending cherished weeks there. Marie was a talented craftswoman and won many first-place ribbons from the Guilford Fair in several categories. Peter Golanski

Peter Golanski

Age - 82

November 29, 2023

Peter Joseph Golanski, 82, of Meriden, formerly of Wallingford, loving husband of JoAnn (Benigni) Golanski for 57 years, passed away at his home surrounded by his family on November 24, 2023. Peter was born in Meriden on May 18, 1941, son of the late Peter and Ann (France) Golanski. In addition to his wife, JoAnn, he is survived by his son, Peter August Golanski and his wife, Jennifer Nowlan, of Bristol; his daughter, Jaime Jo Golanski-Zmijewski and her husband, Raymond of Meriden; and his granddaughter, Taylor Alexa Zmijewski of Allston, MA. Whether you referred to him as Peter, Pete, Coach G. , Mr. G. , dad, poppy or pops, one thing was certain - he was truly a remarkable man. Now, if you crossed paths with our dad, you could have been a student of his at Jefferson Middle School, Xavier High School, New Milford High School, Bacon Academy, Mercy High School, Independent Day School or Washington Middle School. You could have played basketball or baseball for him at Washington Middle School or played football for him at Maloney. He also coached football at Xavier High School for a few years early on in his career, as an Assistant QB Coach (34 game winning streak 1971, 1972 & undefeated in 1974) and then returned to coach the Falcons in 1985-1992 as the Defensive Coordinator, while my brother played for him and I did the stats for the team on the sidelines. His most recent coaching gig was as the Head Coach for the Mercy Girls Golf team, where he coached for over 25 years. He had over 300 wins during his career with the Mercy Tigers, for which he was quite proud - and rightly so. He also spent years coaching various Meriden Girls softball teams. His dedication to kids, in all capacities, was truly remarkable and he touched so many lives throughout the years. You may have had the joy of being one of his dance partners. He loved to dance, even if he was the only one, flailing his arms with his crazy dance moves, taking out the best of them. You could find him at the golf course with his golf cart cover and heater, trying to perfect his game, even in the frigid temps. Most recently, you could find him wrapped up in a blanket on the couch with his hat and nose warmer on, blasting his favorite game show on tv. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Per Peter's request, all services are private. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main Street Ext. , Wallingford. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to: The American Cancer Society (https://donate. cancer. org); The National Celiac Association (https://nationalceliac. org) or the Meriden Humane Society (www. meridenhumanesocietyrescue. com)www. wallingfordfh. comShow more

Irene Mcanneny

Irene Mcanneny

Age - 90

November 27, 2023

Irene A. McAnneny passed away peacefully on November 13, 2023 at Complete Care Meriden. Born Irene Agnes Milanich on December 27, 1932, she was the second daughter of Michael and Anna (Werling) Milanich. Growing up in Passaic, New Jersey, Irene, a self-proclaimed "street fighter," learned toughness, perseverance, and a strong will. These traits served her well through a challenging first marriage, and as a single mother while raising her 4 boys. In her younger years, Irene was very active in Al-Anon, where she was instrumental in starting one of the first Alateen groups in Connecticut, a group that helped many teenagers deal with family alcoholism. On a fateful day in 1973, Irene met the love of her life, Frank "Mac" McAnneny. After a brief time talking and sharing dances, Irene returned home, called her best friend and said "Today I met the man I'm going to marry. " She did marry that man, and they spent 4 glorious years loving each other, until he passed far too early. As was her nature, Irene then did what she had to do and went back to work to provide for her family. She worked at Top Hill Restaurant, for Dr. Guido Fontanella DDS, at CIGNA Dental, and finally for MCM Dental Group. At home, Irene was always the glue that held her family together. An amazing grandmother, she frequently hosted special themed parties for her grandchildren. Irene was also an incredibly talented crafter, who often shared her creations as gifts. Whether they were handmade wreaths or custom hand-painted glassware, they were always enjoyed by their recipients. Irene is survived by her sons, Daniel Poryanda and his wife, Jennifer, of Tucson, AZ; Scott Poryanda and his wife, Kathie, of Killingworth; and Matthew Poryanda and his girlfriend, Denise Moses of North Haven; Grandchildren, Daniel II, Brandon, Stephanie, Olivia, Emma, Molly, Samuel and "her boy" Ryan; Great grandchildren, Natalie, Madison, Gage, Hayden, Theodore and Everly; Her sisters Judi Krumpfer and Stephanie Robinson and her husband, Steve; and many nieces and nephews. Irene was pre-deceased by the love of her life, Frank McAnneny; her two sons Leonard and Kim; her parents; her sisters, Eleanor (Eugene) Gowatsky and Katherine "Kitty" Blanck; and her very dear brother-in-law, John Krumpfer. The family would like to thank the staff at Complete Care Meriden for their compassionate care. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private at a later date. Irene was a lover of pets. For anyone interested in making a donation in her name, a donation to an animal rescue or animal organization of your choice would be appreciated. www. wallingfordfh. comShow more
