November 27, 2023
Irene A. McAnneny passed away peacefully on November 13, 2023 at Complete Care Meriden. Born Irene Agnes Milanich on December 27, 1932, she was the second daughter of Michael and Anna (Werling) Milanich. Growing up in Passaic, New Jersey, Irene, a self-proclaimed "street fighter," learned toughness, perseverance, and a strong will. These traits served her well through a challenging first marriage, and as a single mother while raising her 4 boys. In her younger years, Irene was very active in Al-Anon, where she was instrumental in starting one of the first Alateen groups in Connecticut, a group that helped many teenagers deal with family alcoholism. On a fateful day in 1973, Irene met the love of her life, Frank "Mac" McAnneny. After a brief time talking and sharing dances, Irene returned home, called her best friend and said "Today I met the man I'm going to marry. " She did marry that man, and they spent 4 glorious years loving each other, until he passed far too early. As was her nature, Irene then did what she had to do and went back to work to provide for her family. She worked at Top Hill Restaurant, for Dr. Guido Fontanella DDS, at CIGNA Dental, and finally for MCM Dental Group. At home, Irene was always the glue that held her family together. An amazing grandmother, she frequently hosted special themed parties for her grandchildren. Irene was also an incredibly talented crafter, who often shared her creations as gifts. Whether they were handmade wreaths or custom hand-painted glassware, they were always enjoyed by their recipients. Irene is survived by her sons, Daniel Poryanda and his wife, Jennifer, of Tucson, AZ; Scott Poryanda and his wife, Kathie, of Killingworth; and Matthew Poryanda and his girlfriend, Denise Moses of North Haven; Grandchildren, Daniel II, Brandon, Stephanie, Olivia, Emma, Molly, Samuel and "her boy" Ryan; Great grandchildren, Natalie, Madison, Gage, Hayden, Theodore and Everly; Her sisters Judi Krumpfer and Stephanie Robinson and her husband, Steve; and many nieces and nephews. Irene was pre-deceased by the love of her life, Frank McAnneny; her two sons Leonard and Kim; her parents; her sisters, Eleanor (Eugene) Gowatsky and Katherine "Kitty" Blanck; and her very dear brother-in-law, John Krumpfer. The family would like to thank the staff at Complete Care Meriden for their compassionate care. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private at a later date. Irene was a lover of pets. For anyone interested in making a donation in her name, a donation to an animal rescue or animal organization of your choice would be appreciated. www. wallingfordfh. comShow more
