Sara Johnson Obituary

"What a wonderful life it was. Sara Jo Johnson passed away at the age of 91 on April 23, 2023 while under hospice care. Sara Jo - "just call me Jo" - was a proud daughter of Alabama. She and her three sisters, Ruth, Wilda, and Sandra, were raised by their God fearing and strong-willed Mother, Myrtis Gill in Odenville, Alabama. Jo married James Vann Johnson in 1951 in Birmingham, Alabama. They lived in Alabama and Florida but Georgia became their home. They were married for 59 years. Jo was an Administrator at Atlanta Traveler's Aid Society for more than forty years. She could do magic with her sewing machine and fabric, was as well an exceptional cook, avid gardener, and a devoted bird lover. However, she was not a fan of the chipmucks and squirrels that would help themselves to the bird seed she put out. She kept an arsenal of pine cones on her deck to discourage their presence at her bird feeders. Jo also enjoyed golf. Although she had not played in many years, she enjoyed watching golf tournaments on television. Her family was important to her. She was especially proud of her grandson and over the moon in love with her great granddaughter. Jo is preceded in death by her husband, James Vann Johnson and her sister, Ruth Riddle. She is survived by her daughter, Debby Parham (Joe Parham); her grandson, Byars Parham (Lori Parham); her great granddaughter, Aurora Parham; and her sisters, Wilda Auth (Henry Auth) and Sandra Baum. A private family graveside service will be held. In lieu of flowers please donate to Cobb Senior Services (Georgia) - Meals on Wheels Program. "
