Age - 85
December 9, 2023
Earl H. Wittkamper, 85, passed away peacefully December 7, 2023, with loving family at his side. Earl leaves a formidable legacy as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He married his high school sweetheart, Judy, in 1960, and together they remained steadfast and strong, raising three children together into adulthood. Earl doted especially on his grandkids and great-grandkids, being many times over "Grampa, Paw-Paw, Great Paw-Paw," or whatever name little mouths could form at the time. He was a steadfast provider and champion for his family, and their loudest and strongest supporter. He was always there for every graduation, musical, dance, or cheerleading performance, gymnastics meet, and open house. Earl would say that he was "tickled" that the kids would want to play with "old grandpa," but they knew he had a childlike enthusiasm for fun and play, and even got into a little mischief with them around the house! Earl was an employee of Indiana & Michigan Power Company for forty-four years, beginning at the Breed Power Plant in Fairbanks, IN, and retiring from the Fort Wayne office in 2000. During that time, he attended night school to earn his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, while also raising a family. Earl believed in hard work and self-determination, and his success in life was a shining example of those virtues. Earl was active all his life, right up till the end. In his earlier days he enjoyed running in 3K races locally, swimming at the Y, boating with his family, golfing with friends, or just mowing the grass. He could always be counted on for one of his famous one-skillet dinners, or a makeshift "wood trick" to fix something around the house. Earl was an avid reader and loved a good jigsaw puzzle. He was also an adventurer and a traveler, having seen much of this country with his lifelong partner, his "sweetie girl. " Earl was preceded in death by his wife Judy, (married sixty-two years). He is survived by three children, Jeff (Linda, deceased), Jacqueline (James), and Andrew; brother Dale (Sandy), sisters Elaine (Joe, deceased) and Lorraine (John), seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Services will be held December 12, 2023, at Divine Mercy Funeral Home, 3500 Lake Avenue, Fort Wayne, IN 46805. There will be a public visitation at 10 am, followed by a service at 11 am.
