Sanford Wilson Obituary

Sanford "Sandy" Wilson, 59, passed away on Friday, May 5th, 2023. Sandy was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Wilson; nephew, Tommy Ray Bradshaw; and niece, Kadie Jo Darroch. He is survived by his wife, Susan Wilson of Fayetteville; son, Chris (Laura) Wilson of Wake Forest; son, AJ Wilson of Fayetteville; grandson, Zach Wilson of Wake Forest; sister, Mona (Jerry) Thomas of Lillington and Bill and Nancy Stanifer of Fayetteville. Sandy was a devoted husband, loving father, and an amazing Papa. Sandy was born in Washington, DC and was raised in Fayetteville, NC by his mother, Helen, and sister, Mona. Growing up he had two influential people who helped and mentored him, Bill Stanifer and Coach Bob Paroli. Sandy graduated from Douglas Byrd High School and attended East Carolina. While at Douglas Byrd, Sandy met the love of his life, Susan, and married her. He had two sons, Chris and AJ, that he loved tremendously and devoted his life to making them good men. He loved and always considered Randal Webster one of his own. The apple of his eye was his grandson, Zach. Spending time with his boys and his grandson was one of his favorite activities. If you ever wanted to see Sandy smile, you should watch his interactions with Zach, nothing made him happier. Sandy was an avid hunter, fisherman, and coach. He devoted much of his life to coaching youth sports and helping kids when in need. He loved his hunting trips down to the farm with his good friend, Ralph. He was well known for his cooking, especially his chicken and BBQ. The family will receive friends from 5 to 5:45 PM on Wednesday, May 10th, 2023, at Rogers and Breece Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 6 PM in the Rogers and Breece Chapel with Reverend Tommy Underwood officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Douglas Byrd High School for the football and baseball team, 1624 Ireland Dr Fayetteville, NC 28304, in Sandy's name.
