Later, he would regularly attend professional sporting events, such as hockey, baseball boxing and wrestling. After high school, Gardell married his sweetheart, Geraldine Duckett. From this union, two children were born. Antonette, nick-named, Red, who was the apple of his eye and Gardell Jr. , affectionately, called Lil G. , the splitting image of his dad. Gardell was an outgoing person, who enjoyed engaging with other people. He was always cheerful, upbeat and in good spirits making him the life of the party. He later developed a love for food and enjoyed cooking. In fact, during his mid-20's, he became head chef at two restaurants. These were "The St. Louis Noodle and Pizza Company" and "Talanya's Pizzeria". He was always the designated cook at family reunions, picnics and get-togethers. During one Thanksgiving event, Gardell fried 8 turkeys for friends and family. This makes it difficult for the brain to send signals to the rest of the body. Gardell's health continued to decline after a long hard battle from never taking medication, but survival through sheer determination, strength and a will to live. Gardell transitioned on November 18, 2023. He will truly be missed.
