Sandra Kay Smith, lovingly known as "Kay", age 67 of Martinsville, went home to be with Jesus on Sunday, September 10th, 2023, at 3:33 pm after bravely battling failing health for the past several months. She was surrounded by loved ones at the I. U. Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis as she departed her earthly life. Kay's life began in Rusk, Texas, on Monday, May 7th, 1956. She was one of four children born to the late James Robert and Syble Marie (Dossett) Dodson. In 1963, Kay and her family moved to Morgan County, Indiana, from Texas, where she lived for the following sixty years. She graduated from Martinsville High School with the class of 1974 and was married shortly thereafter to the love of her life, William Grant "Bill" Smith Jr. , on October 25th, 1974, in Indianapolis. She and Bill lived a short time in Colorado during his enlistment in the U. S. Military, where Kay attended seminary school and earned an associate degree in theology. Upon returning to Indiana, she began serving the Lord as an Evangelist, traveling to various states. In the mid 1980's, she co-founded the Full Gospel Missionaries Church in Indianapolis and began a 20+ year ministry, retiring in 2006. In addition to being a pastor and evangelist, Kay was also a gift vocalist and guitar player. Her voice was extraordinary and even granted her the opportunity to sing back-up for Loretta Lynn at a young age. In addition to ministry, singing and playing guitar, Kay also enjoyed flower gardening and most importantly, she cherished every second spent with her grandchildren. She also thoroughly enjoyed attending Gateway Tabernacle in Martinsville, where she was currently a devoted and active member. Kay's life will be celebrated in spirit through cherished memories, legacies, lessons and values she left behind. She is survived by her husband of nearly 49 years, Bill Smith of Martinsville; son, Ryan Michael (wife, Emily) Smith of Mooresville, IN; daughter, Brandi (husband, Eric) Levin of Mooresville, IN; three beloved grandchildren, Nolan Levin, and Hunter and Kaylee Smith; two brothers, James Robert and Michael Dodson and a sister, Susan Dodson. Family and friends are invited to visit on Wednesday, September 13th, 2023, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm and from 10:00 am - 11:00 am on Thursday at Neal & Summers Funeral and Cremation Center in Martinsville. A service celebrating Kay's life will be on Thursday, September 14th, 2023, beginning at 11:00 am at the funeral home and she will be laid to rest following the service in Mt. Matthew Wayne Anthis, 38, lovingly known by many as Matty, of Martinsville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at his residence. He was born Saturday, November 16, 1985, in Martinsville to the late Wayne Eugene Anthis and Deanda Marie Hines. Matt was currently employed as assistant lead for the Kroger Fuel Center in Martinsville. He enjoyed tinkering with computers, time with his family and friends and most importantly, he cherished spending the holidays with family. Matt was of the protestant faith, he was baptized July 28, 2015, at Souls Matter Apostolic Church in Bloomington, Indiana. He leaves behind a host of loving family including his half-sister, Heather Grogg (Gene Gilbert) of Lyons, Indiana; step-sisters, Angela Honeycutt (Jeff) of Martinsville, Indiana and Karolyn Blankenbechler (Doug) of Kingman, Indiana; step-mother, Donna Anthis of Martinsville, Indiana; grandmother, Glenda Hines of Mooresville, Indiana; nieces, Kirsten Amos, Skylar Cabell, Kiersa Shera and Deanda Smith; nephews, Anthony Amos, Abel Blankenbechler and Jaxon Smith; great nephews, Hunter Amos and Noah and Myles Cabell and several uncles and one aunt and cousins. Ronna Jean Workman, a longtime resident of Martinsville, passed from her earthly life on Saturday, November 11th, 2023, at the age of 70, after an extended illness. She died at the Lutheran Home in York, Pennsylvania, where she had been living since June 2022, moving there to be near her sister. Ronna was one of three children born to the late Ronald Eugene and Evelyn Nora (Oburn) Kelley. She was born on Friday, October 16th, 1953, in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a Martinsville Artesian graduate, graduating with the class of 1972. During her years at MHS, Ronna played in the marching and concert bands and sang with the concert choir and Madrigals. Following graduation, she attended Indiana Business College in Indianapolis. In 1978, she gained employment at AT&T working as a secretary in the engineering and construction department. She was a dedicated employee of AT&T for thirty-three years, retiring in 2011. She was a gifted musician and thoroughly enjoyed sharing her love of music with others, including her son. She spent many Sunday afternoons playing piano and singing for the residents at the Kennedy Living Center in Martinsville. In addition to music, Ronna enjoyed Indiana University Basketball and Football, the Indianapolis Colts, attending Bible study, and traveling. Her greatest joy traveling was spent taking trips to visit lifelong friends and family and to attend her son's competitions and performances. All who were blessed to know Ronna and call her a friend would attest that she was just that. . . . A good and loyal friend!She is survived by her son, Charles "Charlie" Workman and his wife, Grace, of Seattle, WA; one sister and one brother. Family and friends gathered for a graveside service celebrating Ronna's life and legacy on Thursday, November 16th, 2023, at 11:30 am. She was laid to rest following the celebration beside her parents in New South Park Cemetery in Martinsville. Martinsville native, Ida Alice Sichting, age 84, gained eternal rest at 6:20 AM on Saturday, October 28th, 2023, at the Grand Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in Martinsville after years of failing health. Ida Alice was born on Monday, April 10th, 1939, in Martinsville, Indiana, to the late Ray and Lucille (Carter) Arnold. On December 31st, 1955, Ida Alice married her high school sweetheart, Paul L. Sichting. She and Paul had what many would call a 'fairytale' marriage; they were inseparable and shared nearly sixty-eight years of true love, laughter and friendship. Ida Alice attended Martinsville High School and furthered her education at the Chicago School of Design, earning a degree in interior design. She worked as an interior decorator for Miles Home Furnishings in Martinsville for several years before opening her own business, Drapery Ideas, during the 1980's through the early 2000's. Ida Alice was also a talented artist. She took pleasure in painting, drawing, gardening and playing bridge. Above all, she was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who cherished her family. She was a fabulous cook and took great pride and pleasure in entertaining and hosting family get-togethers. She attended Centennial Christian Church and was a member of the Gardening Club and Job's Daughters. Ida Alice had also volunteered her time at the Morgan County Memorial Hospital for many years. Her life and legacy will be celebrated and lovingly remembered by her family and friends including her soulmate and beloved husband, Paul Sichting of Martinsville; son, Jeff Sichting of Martinsville; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Chuck Wildt of Martinsville; four grandchildren, Samantha (husband, Doug) Edgar of Fort Wayne; Tyler Wildt of Chicago; Brighton Sichting of Martinsville; Annie Sichting of Indianapolis; and four great grandchildren, Addyson, Bohden, Elodie and Zeke Edgar. Emery Howard, 87, a longtime Martinsville resident, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home with loved ones by his side on Saturday, October 21, 2023. Emery was one of five sons born to the late Kelly and Zola (Hamblin) Howard. He was born Monday, December 30, 1935, in Confluence, Kentucky. Mr. Howard moved to Indiana in 1957 from Krypton, Kentucky shortly thereafter marrying the love of his life on March 25, 1957. He then went to work for Romine Machine Shop. Having lost his leg at a young age, he never allowed his handicap to get in his way. He retired in 1998 after 41 years from Federal Mogul, where he was a Tool & Die Maker. A dedicated man to his family, he loved them with his entire heart and always put them above himself. His hobbies included collecting, restoring, and racing older cars, whittling wood, listening to Bluegrass music, fishing, mushroom hunting, gardening, tinkering with most anything and everything, making rings, his own ammo for his guns, knives, and bird houses. Known to be a wonderful listener and problem solver, he was also quite a prankster, wisecrack and quite witty. He loved sassafras tea, cherished his dogwood trees, his John Deer lawn mower, loved his dogs, Isabel and Skeeter and his cat Lucky, feeding the birds while learning to whistle like them and getting them to whistle back at him, entertaining himself for hours. Often, protecting the bluebirds from the sparrows. Some of his most treasured times were spent with his brothers at Lake Cumberland on their annual fishing trips. A devoted man to God and his church. He and his wife attended Trinity Worship Center in Martinsville and most recently attended Life Tabernacle Church in Indianapolis. He leaves a host of loving family to cherish his memory including his wife of 66 years, Dorothy (Somers) Howard of Martinsville. His children, Bruce Howard (wife, Chris), Teresa Nunn (husband, Kenny) and Jennifer Buster (husband, Jeff) all of Martinsville and Mary Beth Logan (husband, Eric) of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Donovan and Brandon Lewis, Jayme Martin, Jacob Cole and Wyatt Buster; great grandchildren, Tyler Howard, Avy, Korbin, Kayden and Brantley Lewis, Genevieve and Pippa Martin and Jackson Cole and one great granddaughter, Ariella Howard; brothers, Morris Howard (wife, Janice) of Mooresville, Paul Howard (wife, Barbara) of Martinsville and David Woods (wife, Elaine) of Krypton, Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Asbury Howard and one grandson, Jeremy Howard. Brayden Shane Mechling, 19 years young, died unexpectedly at 1:33 pm on Thursday, October 19th, 2023, from an auto accident, just minutes after leaving home. His life began on Tuesday, September 28th, 2004, in Indianapolis, Indiana, where he had lived until he was thirteen. Brayden and his family moved to Martinsville from Indianapolis in 2017. He attended Martinsville High School, graduating with the class of 2023, and played on the Martinsville Artesian Football team. During his high school years, Brayden also worked at the Barbara B. Jordan YMCA as a camp counselor, as well as an intramural basketball coach. He had a genuine love for kids and a natural ability to teach, coach, and guide them. Brayden dreamed of becoming a history teacher and was scheduled to begin his college courses on Monday, October 23rd, 2023, while working part time as a server at Chili's in Martinsville. Like most young men his age, Brayden loved gaming, playing basketball with his buddies, and constantly eating. He was a kind and loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, and friend to many who loved him deeply. Brayden was full of life with a gentle soul and a bright future ahead of him that kept his family and friends laughing and on their toes. Richard Joseph Thornton, 86, Martinsville, Indiana, passed away Saturday, October 14, 2023, at IU Health Morgan Hospital. Mr. Thornton was born Sunday, September 5, 1937, at home in Bloomington, Indiana to the late Joseph Merlin Thornton and Imogene (Bell) Mitchell. He was a graduate of Bloomington High School, graduated Indiana University in 1955 and later attended Ryukyus University in Okinawa, Japan, where he learned to speak the Japanese language. He had a love for hiking, visiting state parks and traveling, his favorite spot being Fripp Island, where he shared many special memories throughout the years with his family. He served his country honorably while serving in the US Army. He retired from Miles Furniture in Martinsville. His career in furniture sales offered him many different opportunities, formerly working for Mattress World and Bedroom One. He leaves behind a host of loving family including his wife that he married on September 7, 1994, Patricia (Dean) Thornton of Martinsville; son, Richard Joseph Thornton, Jr. (wife, Gina) of Louisville, Kentucky; daughters, Stephanie Lines (husband, Eric) of New Palestine, Indiana, Laura Latham (husband, Josh) and Alison Plahitko (fiance, Shane Martin) all of Indianapolis, Indiana and Valerie Perry (husband, Neil) of Greenwood, Indiana; fifteen grandchildren; three step grandchildren and his first great grandchild expected in December. Jo Anne Miller, of Indianapolis and formerly of Martinsville, passed from this life at 4:30 am on Tuesday, October 10th, 2023, at the age of 83. She was one of three children born to the late Richard James and Elsie May (Barker) Miller. Jo Anne was born on Monday, July 29th, 1940, in Peoria, Illinois. She grew up in Indianapolis and graduated from Manual High School with the class of 1958. After graduation, Jo Anne attended the University of Indianapolis and earned a bachelor's degree in history. She worked for the State of Indiana Family and Children Services as a social worker for many years, where she eventually retired. Jo Anne was of the Christian faith and had attended Mt. Pleasant Christian Church in Greenwood prior to her failing health. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading and most importantly, she treasured time spent with her family. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends including her brother, Harvey Miller of Indianapolis; three nieces, Donna Underwood, Kathy Self and Rebecca Higgins; three nephews, Jacob Simoson, Richard Miller and David Miller; and several great nieces and nephews, including her caregiver for the past two years, great nephew, William Underwood. Along with her parents, Jo Anne was preceded in death by her sister, Bessie Simonson.
