An adored son, he grew up in Belfast, Northern Ireland with his siblings Joanne, James, Elizabeth and Denise, and where he excelled in sports like rugby, shot put and javelin. He also loved music, animals and socialising with his friends, and went on to enjoy hang gliding and photography as well. He went to Manchester University and became an engineer.
