Sandra Ann Harber age 66, of Galax, Virginia passed away Saturday October 7, 2023 at her residence. Sandra was born on June 9, 1957 in Galax, Virginia to the late James Edwin Stanley and Ruth Brown Stanley. She was also preceded in death by her daughter Teresa Hanes, brother Billy Stanley, and sisters Betty Stanley and Vicky Stanley. She is survived by her daughter Tessa Redd of Hillsville, Virginia as well as several nieces and nephews and a special niece and nephew which were her caregivers Vanessa and Robert Redd. Ethel Marita Whitlow (78) met her Savior on November 28 at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, NC. She was born October 18, 1945, in the Hebron community to Ted and Brooks Lineberry. She met the love of her life, David Whitlow, and married him in 1962. They lived between Henry County and Carroll County until they settled in Carroll County in 1976. Ethel worked as a CNA at Waddell Nursing Home for several years. She then settled into being Nanny to many children. She was Nanny Ethel to everyone. She loved all her children. They were all special to her and Papa David. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-laws: Marsha and Allan Vass and Renee and Eddie Easter. She has four grandchildren: Alex (Kayla) Easter, Caleb (Elizabeth) Vass, Hannah (Cody) Mullins, and Abigail (Andrew) Hennis. There are 6 great-grandchildren: Hunter, Dixie, Brayley, Kaydance, Maddie, and Lucas. She has many other children and grandchildren that each hold a special place in her heart. Brother-in-law: Curtis (Loretta) Whitlow She was the last of a family of seven. She was always the baby of the family especially since she shared her birthday with her dad. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, David Whitlow, her parents and siblings: TJ (Ted) Lineberry, Bernice and Harry Frost, Jeanette and Marlin Mabe, Helena and Charles Sexton, Frances and J. W. Akers, and Verla Hollandsworth. The funeral service will be held Friday at 2:00 PM in the Cana Baptist Church with Pastor Ed Bowman and Pastor Myron Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from six until eight at the Vaughan-Guynn Funeral Home. Mr. Eugene "Kotch" Paul Kotchick, age 88 of Galax, VA passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023 at the Duke - Raleigh Hospital in Raleigh, NC. He was born in Endicott, NY on March 2, 1935 to the late Joseph Robert and Irene Schlosser Kotchick. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Joyce Rothlesberger Kotchick; three sisters, Emma Meeka, Arlette Charma and Jaycee Logsdon; brothers, William Kotchick and Joseph Robert Kotchick. He and his whole family have served in the military. He was a veteran of the Korean War and lost two brothers in WWII. He became director at NASA and traveled the world, but always said there is no place like America. He moved to Galax and became a member of his beloved Beech Grove Baptist Church in Galax. He joined the Gideon's and loved his work there sharing the word of Christ. He is much loved by his family and gave much love to them. He will truly be missed. His motto was God, Country, and Honor. He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Ratteree Kotchick of the home; son, Joseph Robert Kotchick of Lancaster, CA; daughters, Cherie Brisson and husband, Kerry of Lake Havasu City, AZ. and Kimrey Kotchick of Reno, NV; stepsons, Chris Jones and wife, Heather of Fries, VA. , and Seth Jones and wife, Kristy of Hillsville, VA; stepdaughters, Patricia Howard and husband, Kevin of Edenton, NC. , and Ashley Kelly and husband, Andrew of Wilmington, NC; two grandsons, Jared Eugene Brisson and Austin James Brisson; step grandchildren, Damien Garcia, Ethen Howard, Caleb Howard, Trenton Newman, Logan Kelly, Allison Kelly, Sawyer Kelly, Maci Jones and Claire Garcia; several nieces and nephews also survive. A Funeral Service will be held Thursday, November 30, 2023 at Beech Grove Baptist Church beginning at 4pm. Pastor Tom Burcham will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 3pm until 4pm. Interment with military honors will follow on Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin, VA beginning at 1pm. Dr. Juan Franciso Rios age 90 of Galax, Virginia passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 in the Waddell Nursing and Rehab Center. Dr. Rios was born on February 3, 1933 in Durango, Mexico to Ramone and Margrita Herrandez Rios. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife and the mother of his sons Peggy Lincoln Rios. Dr. Rios graduated from the University of Mexico and was the Chief of Surgery for Twin County Community Hospital for many years, as well as being the Medical Examiner for both Grayson and Carroll Counties. He was a founding member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Woodlawn, Virginia, and a member of both the Lions Club and Galax Theater Guild. His great loves were family, traveling abroad, music, reading and working in his yard--his story telling was legendary throughout the area. He is survived by his wife Beverly Higgins Rios of Galax, Virginia; sons and daughters-in-law Victor R. and Suzanne Rios of Raleigh, North Carolina; David A. and Patricia Rios of Way Cross, Georgia; John S. Rios of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; daughter and son-in-law Whitney L. Mugler and Richard Munroe of Davidson, North Carolina; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church with Dr. Kevin Rosenfeld officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Felts Memorial Cemetery.
