Sandra Lynn Dillard, age 76, met Jesus face to face on Thursday, October 5 2023, after battling a long illness. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister and friend. She was a UT sports fan, especially UT women's sports. She enjoyed watching game shows and old westerns. She liked to be outside and feel the warm sun on her face. Most of all she loved Jesus and her family. Her children and grandchildren meant the world to her. Anyone that met her loved her. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ronald J. Dillard; her parents, Brumley and Ruby Morgan; sisters, Sue Kenyon and Kathy Morgan; brother, Donald Morgan; and great-grandchildren angel babies, Leeland and Fitz Dillard. Surviving are her daughter, Penney (Tim) Davis; son, "Buddy" (Tonia) Dillard; daughter, Misty (Richard) Lyons; grandchildren, Ashlynn (David) Gillenwater, Amanda Davis Jackson, Zachary (Katie) Dillard, Austin (Mandy) Dillard, Noah (Brittany) Dillard, Allen Lyons and Sam Lyons; great-grandchildren, Jackson Trent, Maylee Gillenwater, Ella Gillenwater, Isaiah Jackson, June Dillard, Daisy Dillard, Kyler Gillenwater, Hardin Tapp, and Lucy Dillard; sister, Teresa (Danny) Carter; and special sister Marie (Don) Morgan; very special friends, Patsy Dykes and Troy and Mary Gatlin; several nieces and nephews. The family will have a Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 21 2023, at Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill. Visitation with the family will be at Penney Davis house on Saturday evening following the service. Carter-Trent Funeral Home in Church Hill is proudly serving the Dillard family.

Virgie Wallen, 88, of Church Hill, TN, passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at the home. Virgie was born one of many children to Truman France and Martha Hart France in Copper Creek, Virginia. Growing up, she attended Tipton Chapel in Copper Creek. Virgie married Ed Wallen and the couple enjoyed over fifty years together. They had four children, Tim, Gary, Larry, and Hughie. Virgie was a good cook who enjoyed serving her family and always had plenty for them to eat. She was also a gardener and enjoyed preparing the fruits of her labors for others to enjoy as well. In addition to her parents, Virgie is preceded in death by her sons, Tim Wallen, Gary Wallen, Hughie Wallen; step-children, Franklin Wallen, Jerry Wallen; Audrey Wallen Elswick; brothers, Carl France, Dee France, June France, McArthur France; sisters, Annie Hashbarger, Hassie France, Evelyn Estep. Those left to cherish Virgie's memory are her son, Larry Wallen; daughter-in-law, Kaye Smith Wallen; step-son, David "Cotton" Wallen (Darlene); many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, including special grandchildren, Matt Wallen (Kristy) and Jimmy Wallen, Heather Holder (Chris) and Josh Davidson (Rachel); special great-granddaughters, Kaydance Shaffer and Cassandra Wallen "Hotrod"; sister, Nell Akers; numerous nieces and nephews, including special nephews, Johnny Wallen (Heather), Chris Wallen (April), David Estep (Tammy); special niece, Rita France. CHURCH HILL - Susan A Woods, born October 1, 1930, went to heaven on Thursday, December 7, 2023. She died peacefully in her sleep at home with the blessed help from Amedisys Hospice and various medical assistants. Susan retired from Eastman Chemical Company after many years of service. She was proceeded in death by J R Woods, her loving husband for many years and her parents Charlie and Mary Arnold, 4 brothers Kenneth, Charles, Joe, and Jim, and 2 sisters, Lorene and Geneva. She is survived by Ruth Holtsclaw, Johnny and Carolyn Arnold and Jack and Mary Arnold. A visitation will be held from 12:00-1:00 PM on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home, 320 Grandview Street Church Hill, TN 37642. The funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Dr. Susan Arnold officiating. A graveside service will follow in procession to Church Hill Memory Gardens. JOHNSON CITY - Patricia Ann Lampkins, 53, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Johnson City Medical Center. Trish was born in Kingsport, TN on June 2, 1970. Trish was a proud United States Army Veteran. She retired from CSX Railroad as a yard master and had many titles during her time with the railroad. Trish loved riding her motorcycle and was an adventurer. She was a one-of-a-kind person and was a friend to everyone she met. She cared for others and loved them with her whole heart. You never seen Trish without a smile on her face, even on her hard days she was smiling and thinking of others. Trish is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Dorothy Lampkins; and her grandparents on both sides. She is survived by her fiance, Chris Hamaker; aunts, Gladys Brice, and Sarah Miller "Aunt Appy"; as well as many special cousins, and dear friends. Billy Ira Ray age 82, of Church Hill, went home to meet his Lord and Savior and to be reunited with the love of his life, Pat, on Saturday, December 2, 2023 surrounded by family at his home. Billy was a man of strong faith and shared God's word with many. Billy was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to anyone he met. He was a retiree of Quebecor (Kingsport Press) with 30+ years of service. In addition to his wife, Pat, Billy was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amber Yonts; parents, Carty and Molly Ray; and several brothers and sisters. He is survived by 2 loving daughters, Dianne Forbes (Robert Jennings) and Donna Housewright (Ricky); 5 grandchildren, Meghan Ennis (Hunter), Danielle Yonts, Dylan Forbes (Haley), Sydney Williams (Sam) and Hunter Housewright; 7 great-grandchildren, Jaliyah Yonts, Jaydah Yonts, Madelyn Ennis, Jariah Yonts, Harper Ennis, Boston Forbes and Weston Forbes; a brother, sister and several nieces and nephews. KINGSPORT - Janice Sue Christian, 70, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at Holston Valley Medical Center after a courageous battle with cancer. Janice was born in Hawkins Co. on April 1, 1953, to her parents, Robert "Jack" and Sue Horton. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Gravely Valley Baptist Church. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Evelyn Russell, and Helen Mosley; and her brother, J. E. Horton. She is survived by her sisters, Pauline Jones, and Anna Ruth Horton; brother, Thomas Horton (Deb); brother-in-law, Ron Mosley; special friend, Shirley and Cecil Mowdey; special neighbor, Deb; as well as several nieces, and nephews. Stephanie had a passion for people and never met a stranger. She taught her first Bible study at 12 and continued to teach them throughout the years. Her greatest blessings in life were her two children, Justin and Courtney and her soon to be grandchild due in April! After many years of schooling, she fulfilled her lifelong dream of becoming a Registered Nurse! A job she excelled at with her love for people. Stephanie gave all that she had to anyone in need and always wanted everyone to feel loved. She was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. Stephanie was preceded in death by her husband Donald R. Terry; and her father, Darell K. Barker. She is survived by her husband, Paul E. Evans; son, Justin Terry and wife Rachel; daughter, Courtney Terry; mother, Kathy G. Barker; sister and brothers-in-law, Suzanne N. Eaves and husband Ronnie, and Jerry Evans; nieces and nephews, Ashtyn, Braxton, Kynzlee, Tyler, Camdyn, Felicity, and Latara; and her mother-in-law, Linda Evans. From her first marriage she is survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Ryan Terry and wife Ashley, Kaitlyn Cliburn and husband Seth; and her mother and father-in-law, Donald and Sandy Terry. Along with a host of friends and extended family. The family will receive friends from 10am to 11am on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at Christian Life Center UPC. Lola "Blanche" Derrick (Benton) was born November 12, 1949, and went to be with our Lord November 24, 2023, in Church Hill, surrounded by family, due to an extended illness. Blanche was a member of Grassy Creek Freewill Baptist Church for 35 years. Blanche enjoyed spending time with her family, especially getting to spoil her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Cora Benton and sisters, Wanda "Faye" Davis and Brenda "Sue" Stapleton and daughter, Debra "Debbie" Derrick. She is survived by her son, William "Steve" Derrick, and daughter Marcie Derrick. Her granddaughters (daughter) Kayla Faulkner (Theodore), Breanna Derrick, Ashley Berry (Aaron) and Chloe Davenport as well as her Grandson Dillon Carter (Taylor). Great Grandchildren are Dalton and Braeden Mullins, Raygun Faulkner, Brylee and Callie Brice, Alexus and Parker Nicely, Paisley and Hudson Carter, Joleigh and Mia Marcum and Zayla and Waverly Berry. Services will be held at Johnson-Arrowood on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 5 to 7 with Dennis Spears officiating. Burial will be at the Benton Cemetery at 1 pm on Thursday, November 30, 2023. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:15 PM to go in procession. Pallbearers will be family and friends. KINGSPORT - Dorothy Marie (Eaton) Tilson, 89, passed away on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at her home. Dorothy was born in Church Hill, TN to Landon and Maude Eaton. She went to high school at Church Hill and graduated in 1952. She worked at Baysmont Assisted Living for many years and loved her job, as well as her many friends and coworkers. Dorothy was also an Avon Representative and received many awards through the years. She was a gentle soul and was loved by everyone. She had 5 children, 15 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of Dorothy's friends for their support and love they showed her. CHURCH HILL - Grady Dale Short, 87, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 19, 2023, with his family by his side. Grady was born in Church Hill, TN on January 18, 1936, to his parents Frank and Mary (Cavin) Short. He worked at Johnson and Hilliard for many years before retiring. Grady loved to be outdoors, and when he was able to, liked to put out a big garden. He was a wonderful man, and a loving husband and father. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty (Garber) Short; and his three brothers. Grady is survived by his daughter, Caroline Short; sons, Ivan Short, and Brad Short; as well as several nieces, nephews, and many dear friends. The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses with Gentiva Hospice for the love and care given to Grady. A visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 PM on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 PM on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Church Hill Memory Gardens. Those wishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 AM.
