SERVICES:Roy Gustavo Barbosa Gomez, 32, of Pueblo West, Colorado, and formerly of Shenandoah, Iowa, unexpectedly entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 23, 2023, at his home in Pueblo West, Colorado. A celebration of life memorial service for Roy will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2023, at 11:00 am at Nishna Valley Funeral and Cremation Service with Father Tom Thakadipuram officiating. The family will greet relatives and friends with visitation from 10:30 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home prior to the service. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, are being directed to the family. OBITUARY:Roy Gustavo Barbosa Gomez, son of Ricardo Barbosa and Candida Gomez, was born on May 14, 1991, in Shenandoah, Iowa. He entered into eternal rest unexpectedly on Monday, October 23, 2023, at his home in Pueblo West, Colorado, at the age of 32 years, 5 months, 9 days. His early life was spent growing up in Shenandoah, Iowa. Roy attended the Shenandoah Community Schools and graduated from Shenandoah High School with the Class of 2009. Playing for the Mustangs, Roy excelled on the football team, especially at special teams where he was an elite kicker. He would go on to kick for the Iowa Central Football team in Fort Dodge, Iowa, his freshman year. He later transferred to Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, Iowa, as a placekicker for the Rievers. After receiving his associate degree from Iowa Western, Roy enlisted in the United States Army in 2016. Roy achieved the rank of Sergeant and was stationed at Ft Hood, Texas, and later at Ft Carson, Colorado and was still on active duty. He worked as a Behavioral Health Tech and helped many soldiers who struggled with mental health. He was currently attending school to become an EMT. On October 28, 2019, Roy was united in marriage to Megan Brianne Huscko at Ft Hood in Killeen, Texas. Following their marriage, they resided in Killeen while both of them served their country. In 2021, they were transferred to Ft Carson, Colorado. They were currently living in Pueblo West, Colorado. An outdoor enthusiast, Roy enjoyed being out in nature, going on hikes on mountain trails or walking paths at parks. He loved playing with his dog Jasper, and he enjoyed watching football; his favorite team was the Minnesota Vikings, and he enjoyed being home. He also loved to cook and especially enjoyed spicy Mexican food. Left to cherish Roy's memory are his wife, Megan Huscko; daughter, Marti Ann Hughes; mother, Candida Gomez; father, Ricardo (Beverly) Barbosa; brother, Ricky (Alexia) Barbosa, and their child, Brinley; sister, Yessenia (Martin) Zarate and their children, Naomi and Elian; faithful companions, his dogs, Jasper, Bella and Flash and Sphinx cat, Kitty Boy; along with aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents; and many friends.Show more
