Obituary of Samuel Swart Class is dismissed and Court is adjourned. On February 9, 2019, Samuel J. Swart passed on to the family of Our Lord. A wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, teacher, judge, coach,friend, and neighbor, he will be missed. He passed peacefully with his family by his side. Samuel Swart was born February 27, 1934. He grew up in Cannonsville and graduated from Deposit High School, Delhi Tech, Oswego State College and Oneonta State College. He served in the U. S. Air Forc as a Cryptogragher during the Korean War. Sam was an Industrial Arts teacher at Walton Central School for 33 years, and Walton Town Judge for 35 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Walton Masonic Lodge #559 F & AM, the Royal Arch Masons #251, the Magistrates Association, New York State and Delaware County Retired Teachers, the American Legion Post 32, VFW Post 270, and the Walton Historical Society. Samuel was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Helen (Holmes) Swart and his sister, Flora (Swart) Whitney. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan (Strong) Swart, his children and grandchildren, Lynda Swart & Brian Pelkie and Justin Powers, Lorrie & Peter Allen, Rebecca & Timothy, and Randy & Sue Swart, McKenzie & Eric , his brother William (Raleigh, NC) as well as many nieces and nephews and extended family. Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, February 13, 2019 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 7:30pm at the Walton United Methodist Church, 101 North Street, Walton where a Masonic Ritual will be held at 7:30 and a short Prayer Service will be held at 7:45PM with Pastor Kent Terchunian, officiating. A military funeral service and celebration of life will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family.
