On Monday, December 4, 2023, God called home his faithful child, Wilbur Thornton Parker, Jr. W. T. passed away at Lynchburg General Hospital from a sudden heart attack. He was born February 14, 1967, to the late Rebecca Juanita Williams Parker and Wilbur Thornton Parker, Sr. W. T. lived in Campbell County for several years and in 1986, graduated Brookville High School. He went to work for Hardee's, working his whole career there for over 30 years. W. T. was a most trusted employee there, he could do any job he was given and do it well. He always got along well with the people he worked with, and he was always punctual. During the 90's W. T. moved to Halifax County with his Pop, when Pop bought the 25-acre farm. W. T. helped Pop out with chores on the farm, all the while fulfilling his full-time job at Hardee's. He enjoyed fishing with Pop, listening to Casey Kasem's golden oldies, watching 70's and 80's tv shows, sports, impressing people with his memory and ability to recall statistics, and gathering with his whole family at Thanksgiving and Christmas. W. T. loved his large family greatly. Although he didn't often get to go to church, because of his work schedule, he loved God and tried to be a true friend to his fellow man. He was a truly gentle soul, and our world is sadder and colder with his passing. We'll all miss him greatly. W. T. is survived by his brothers, Raymond Parker and wife Lisa of Lynchburg, Thomas Carl Parker and wife, Anna of Appomattox; stepmother, Sandra Parker of Florida; stepbrothers, Michael Bortzer and Chris Bortzer; aunt June Colbert; uncle Les Davidson both of Lynchburg; and many dear nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his stepbrother, Danny Bortzer. A funeral service will be held 11 a. m. , Saturday, December 9, 2023, at Robinson Funeral Home, Appomattox with Pastor Tom Walker officiating. Burial will follow at 12:30 p. m. , in Amherst Cemetery. Doris Burrell

Doris McIntosh Burrell, 85, of Appomattox, died Saturday, December 2, 2023, and is now sitting in heaven. She was the loving wife of Clyde Herbert Burrell for 68 years. Born in Charlotte County, June 22, 1938, she was a daughter of the late Nina Mae Arrington and Ernest I. McIntosh. She was a member of Appomattox Baptist Temple and a retired seamstress from Courtland Manufacturing. Doris and Clyde performed as The Singing Burrell's for many years. They traveled to churches throughout Virginia and surrounding states spreading the love of Jesus. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two children, Diana Burrell Klein and husband, Mike of Gladys and Larry Ray Burrell and wife, Mary of Lynchburg; one brother, Glenn McIntosh and wife, Sandra of Pamplin; one sister, Edith McIntosh McCann of Concord; ten grandchildren, Valarie Harvey Taylor (John), Samantha Holt (Cody), Gregory Burrell (Tammy), Justin Burrell (Brittany), Daniel Klein (Ivy), Nathan Klein (Brittany), Caleb Klein, Patrick Stage (Amanda), Eric Haab (Jessie), and Gary Haab; six great-grandchildren, DeAnna Garrett Lloyd, Hayley Garrett Phelps (Tristan), Carter William Taylor, Andrew Lee Taylor, Atlee Klein, Avie Klein, Maddie Klein, Kinsley Klein, Jessica Burrell and Alice Burrell; and two great-great-grandchildren, Braelee Marston and Dawson Lloyd. She was preceded in death by a brother Robert W. McIntosh; and a great-grandson, Bradley Garrett. Milton Layfayette "Buddy" Greene, 79, of Spout Spring passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was the husband of Nancy Jordan Greene for 37 years. Born on August 1, 1944, in Lenoir, NC, he was the son of the late Christie Layfayette Greene and Ruby Baker Greene. He was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church. Buddy served his country during the Korean war as a member of the United States Army as a missile technician. Buddy was a lifetime member of the Appomattox Fire Department where he served for 44 years and six months. He was a member of the American Legion Post #104. Buddy worked with T. E. Brown construction, and Thomasville manufacturing for over 35 years. He also worked with the Appomattox Public School System as a master electrician and plumber. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his stepson, Johnny Bass and wife, Devera of Appomattox; four grandchildren, Randal Bass, Johnny Lee Bass, Jr. and wife, Kaitlin, Ciera Bass, Kelsie Evans and husband, Daniel; three great-grandchildren, Amir Watts, Grayson Kress, and Everley Bass; four sisters, Audrey Ragland of Spout Spring, Evelyn Garrett and husband, Robert of Appomattox, Melanie Chambers of Spout Spring, and Thresea Lewis and husband, Jeff of Concord; brother-in-law, Johnnie Jordan and fiancee, Brenda Hash; and numerous nieces and nephews including two special nephews, Eddie Ragland and Jeff Garrett. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Tina Marie Bass; two brothers-in-law, Clarence Ragland, and Hal Chambers; and a sister-in-law, Brenda Hamilton. A funeral service will be held 12 pm, Tuesday, November 28, 2023, at Glory Baptist Church with Pastor Chris Brooks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by American Legion Post #104 and VFW #9855 combined honor guard and honors by the Appomattox Volunteer Fire Department. Harry Ferguson Jr

Harry Thomas Ferguson, Jr. , 94, of Old Courthouse Rd, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at his residence. He was the husband of the late Mary Ellen McCloud Ferguson for 71 years. Born in Appomattox, Va. , on May 8, 1929, he was the son of the late Harry Thomas Ferguson, Sr. , and Ada Carter Ferguson. In his earlier days, Harry was employed by Norfolk Southern Railroad Company and then by Transcontinental Gas and Pipeline, now Williams. Harry was a faithful lifetime member of New Hope Baptist Church where he served on various committees and was co-chairman of the New Hope Cemetery. He was a charter member of the Appomattox Rescue Squad where he served for 35 years. Harry was a member of the New Hope Hunting Club where he spent many hours in his younger days hunting and socializing. He was also a member of the Appomattox Lions Club. Harry enjoyed gardening, hunting and especially adored his grandchildren. He believed in helping others in need and always said everyone deserves a second chance. He leaves behind to honor his memory two children, Wanda F. Doss and husband, Dennis, and Larry T. Ferguson and wife, Tammy all of Appomattox; two grandchildren, Travis Ferguson and wife, Whitney, and Eric Ferguson and wife, Catherine; four great-grandchildren, Ava Beckhouse, Chase Beckhouse, Vera Ferguson, and Evelyn Ferguson; and a grandson-in-law, Chris Beckhouse. He was preceded in death by a brother, Herbert Wayne Ferguson and a granddaughter, Dana Doss Beckhouse. A funeral service will be held 2 pm, Sunday November 26, 2023, at New Hope Baptist Church with Rev. Ron Moore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Custis Page Harrison, 72, of Appomattox passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at his residence. Born on November 4, 1951, in Vermont, he was the son of the late Thomas W. Harrison and Virginia Carter Page Harrison. He was a retired supervisor of the road crew at VDOT. Custis was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans where he was commander of the Appomattox Rangers camp 1733. He was also a member of Central Virginia Gold Prospectors Club of Buckingham. He is survived by three brothers, William Harrison and wife, Ruth of Florida, Lee Harrison and wife, Becky of Amelia, and James Harrison and wife, Joan of Williamsburg. James Riley "Jimmy" Davis, Jr. , 71, of Pamplin, died Monday, November 13, 2023. He was the loving husband of Margaret Richardson Davis. Born in Altavista, August 15, 1952, he was the son of the late James Riley Davis, Sr. , and Arlean Catherine Barbour Hamlett. Jimmy retired from BWXT after 45 years of service. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, racing, fishing and camping. In addition to his wife, he is survived by three children, Shannon Martin and husband, Kenneth, Jamie Davis and wife, Heather and Daniel Davis and wife, Amy; six grandchildren, Kurt Martin and wife, Taylor, Katy Martin, Maddox Davis, Colbie Davis, Camden Davis and Macy Davis; one sister, Pat Smith and husband, Odell and their son, Matthew Smith; stepfather, Wesley Hamlett; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marshall Bryant

Marshall Hugh Bryant, 79, of Appomattox passed on October 27, 2023. He was born February 16, 1944, a son of the late Percy H. and Edna R. Bryant. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Lela Stinson Bryant. Marshall was a U. S. Army veteran and served during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections. Most recently he and Gene operated Bryant's Towing and Recovery Service. He is survived by his son, Marshall Eugene Bryant and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
