Chicago Heights, Illinois Lucille “Lucy” Tijerina nee Gonzalez passed away at the age of 93. A lifelong Chicago resident, she was born and raised in the Roseland neighborhood and attended Fenger High School. As a young woman she worked at Sherwin Williams as a Lab Technician until her marriage to the late Gabriel Tijerina Sr. in 1958. She became a longtime homemaker and was a loving mother to Gabriel (Katherine) Tijerina Jr, Victor (Marge) Tijerina, Antonio (Elizabeth) Tijerina, Michael Tijerina, Yolanda (Chris) Menor, Gloria (Terence) Sleap, Lisa (Edward) Sanchez and Ruben (Gloria) Tijerina. Grandmother of Sean, Marty (Jackie), Daniel, Cornelius (Kate), Antonio (Gabrielle), Joseph, Steven, John, Julia Tijerina, Rachel Menor, Patricia (Donald) Ehrenhaft, Angelica Sanchez, Edward Sanchez Jr, Lester (Krysta) Rivera and Erika (Jonathan) Gallegos. Great grandmother of Ella and Colton Tijerina, Jackson Tijerina, Oliver Menor, Charlotte Ehrenhaft, Selena Sanchez, Olivia and Adaline Rivera, and Lillia Gallegos. Daughter of the late Angelina nee Gallardo and Victor Gonzalez. Laura Myee Stonikas, age 39, of Chicago, left us unexpectedly on February 25, 2024. She was born on February 19, 1985, to Martin and Rita Stonikas and grew up in Elmhurst where she attended District 205 schools.Laura's zest for life and appreciation for the finer things were infectious. She was a seasoned traveler and fulfilled much her dream of travelling the world, studying abroad, and exploring her Lithuanian heritage by visiting family and cousins there. Her love for Bulldogs extended beyond her cherished companions, Winston and Stella, and she actively participated in Chicago's English Bulldog community. Laura's outgoing personality, warmth, and generosity fostered lasting friendships wherever she went, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew her.Laura pursued ambitious education and career goals. She worked at Chicago’s top companies including Aon Consulting, KPMG Advisory, Northern Trust Bank, CDW, McKinsey & Company, among others. She received her Bachelor of Science from Saint Louis University (Summa Cum Laude) where she participated activities including Delta Gamma Sorority, Alpha Sigma Nu, Omicron Delta Kappa, Student Government Association, and The United Nations Association. She earned her Master of Business Administration from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management (Dean’s List).She is survived by her parents; brother, Martin II (Nikki Way) Stonikas; sister, Gina Stonikas; grandmother, Shirley Bayers; and uncles and aunts, Eugene Stonikas, Linda Stonikas, William (Debbie) Stonikas, Robert (Jan) Stonikas, Michael Bayers, Mary (Dave) Thering, Patrick (Colette) Bayers, Anna Soria, Mark (Carol) Bayers and Nancy (Leo) Hoerdemann. Dr. John C. Daresh, PhD (Education) 75, of Chicago, IL and previously of El Paso, TX passed away on February 25, 2024. Beloved husband of Stephanie, nee Probst. Loving father to Bridget. Dear son of the late George and Anne. Cherished brother of the late George (the late Mary) and the late Regina (the late John) Francour. John was born and raised in Bridgeport. He graduated from St. Ignatius College Prep and then went on to Loras College and DePaul University for his undergraduate and graduate degrees. He eventually went on to receive his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Wisconsin, Madison.He enjoyed over 45 years of an extraordinary teaching career in educational leadership and foundational research, teaching at the University of Cincinnati, The Ohio State University, University of Northern Colorado, Illinois State University and most recently serving as a professor at the University of Texas, El Paso. He was proud to make an impact on the educational system and leaders throughout the world and especially throughout El Paso. John traveled the world helping countries to modernize their educational systems from England to speaking with leaders in Tiawan. President Obama selected John to work on his educational reform policies, lead by Arne Duncan. Additionally, John published 47 books along with 1 in which he coauthored with his daughter, Bridget. Although John was proud of his educational work, his favorite memories where of traveling the world with Stephanie and Bridget.The Daresh family would like to thank all the dedicated women who helped provide John care over his last weeks. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 4 from 9am until the time of the funeral mass at 10am at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church, 6955 N Hiawatha Ave, Chicago, IL 60646.
