"Dr. Sallye Hartsfield Petruchyk died on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at the age of 88. She grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, and received her bachelor's degree magna cu laude from LSU, and her doctorate from the University of Florida in 1977. She was in private practice with Denbigh Psychiatric Associates in Newport News, VA until her retirement in 1996. She moved to Hayes, VA, in 2002 and became a member of the Advisory Board of the Department of Parks and Recreation. She was also a volunteer at the Gloucester-Mathews Free Clinic for ten years. Also, in her retirement, Dr. Petruchyk became a columnist for The Health Journal. She was a member of the Ware River Chapter of the King\u0027s Daughters and a fundraiser for the Laurel Shelter. She also authored a website called Psychologist Listens. com. Dr. Petruchyk was preceded in death by a daughter, Megan Martin. She is survived by a sister, Jan Bozman of Stonewall Louisiana; a brother, Dallas Baillio, Jr. , of Mobile, Alabama; and another brother, Robert L. Baillio of Bossier City, Louisiana. Also, surviving are her son, Michael Peterson, his wife Heather, and their son Pace all of Hayes, VA; a daughter Moetk Soule; and her sons, David and Mack, all of Tallahassee, FL. She also has five other grandchildren Caleb, Nico, Aidan, Abigail, and Jude. The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff at Charter Assisted Living in Newport News, VA, and all of the staff at Sanders Heron Cove 1, in Gloucester, VA. For the dedicated care they provided. A memorial service will be held at Hogg Funeral Home on Saturday, September 30, 2023, at 2:00 p. m. Inurnment will be private. "Lifelong Gloucester resident Eldridge Wilson Motley Jr. "E. W. " passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 5, 2023, at his home in Gloucester Point. He was born on September 5, 1952, and was the son of the late E. W. Motley Sr. and Virginia Powell Motley of Hayes. E. W. was a 1970 graduate of Gloucester High School where he was an all-district halfback and an all-district catcher. For many years, he owned and operated The Point Construction Company Inc. E. W. loved "ball," as he sponsored and played on the Sandmen slow-pitch softball team, coached his children in little league, umpired, and never missed a game his grandchildren were playing. He had a love of the outdoors that included hunting and fishing, which he proudly passed down to his kids and grandkids. E. W. was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed watching NASCAR races. Nothing compared to the love E. W. had for his family as he looked forward to big family gatherings. He is preceded in death by his sisters Debra Haywood, Cathy Motley, and Eileen Horne. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Jennifer R. Motley, and five children E. W. Motley III (Connie), Amanda Faulkner, Brandy Motley, Christina Trinidad (Ricky), and Daniel Motley (Kirstin). Fifteen grandchildren Ridge, Bridget, BreAnna, William, Emily, Kayleigh, Adam, Aleigha, Tyler, Jasmine, Haley, Caleb, Collin, Carson, and Sawyer; two great-grandchildren Payton, and Mylah; two siblings Betty Jean Hogge (Tom) and Dolores Rinaldo; and a host of family and friends. The family will receive friends on Thursday, November 9, 2023, from 6:00 p. m. until 7:30 p. m. at Hogg Funeral Home. The funeral service officiated by Pastor Bill West will be held at 11:00 a. m. "It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margie Ruth Ambrose, 86, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend who left this life to be in the arms of her heavenly father on Thursday, October 26, 2023. She passed peacefully in the aching embrace of her son, Del, surrounded by her daughter-in-law, Janet, and two grandchildren, Jeremiah and Tasha. Born in Baltimore, MD on June 9, 1937, to Julius and Dolly Dean, Margie lived a full life devoted to God, her family, her church, and her country. She was raised in Copeland Park, located in Hampton, VA, where she was the oldest of 9 children and where she met her first husband, Robert E. Stokes, Sr. As the oldest child, Margie was a big sister who helped her mother with the duties of running a large household. Margie married Robert "Bob" Stokes in 1952 and moved with him to San Diego, CA where their two sons were born. They moved back to the location where their families were in VA in 1956, this is where their daughter was born. They settled in York County, VA, in 1961, where they resided until her husband Bob passed away after 38 years of marriage. Margie was a long-time member of West Hampton Baptist Church with her family where she was a servant-hearted woman who ministered in many lay positions within the church all her life. Several years after her first husband passed away, she met and married Donald Ambrose and became the loving stepmother of a new family. They made their home in Hayes, VA, and were happily married for almost 20 years. She was an active member of Providence Baptist Church serving as a minister\u0027s wife. Margie loved her family and her churches. The memories she made with her loved ones and friends will be cherished and honored for a long time. She had a passion for sewing, gardening, and being a servant for the Lord. Family gatherings, church activities, and special events were always made memorable because of the extra attention and love she provided. Margie always made a remarkable effort to send out Christmas gifts, birthday cards, and personal notes to each of her many family members. She was a strong patriot and citizen who set a high standard of love for her country; demonstrating honesty and integrity in every endeavor for all who knew her. Margie is survived by two \u0026quot;Stokes\u0026quot; children; Del Stokes (Janet) and Rhonda Pappas (Pete), 10 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; and is survived by three \u0026quot;Ambrose\u0026quot; children; Carla Stanley (Ricky), Tammie Spivey (Kevin), and Tal Ambrose (Emily), 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; she is survived by one sister Patsy Jenkins. She was preceded in death by two husbands, both her parents, seven siblings, and her oldest son, Bobby. The family will be receiving friends and guests on Friday, November 3, 2023, at 6 p. m. at Hogg Funeral Home, 3098 George Washington Memorial Highway, Hayes, VA 23072. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 11 a. m. , officiated by Pastor Nathan Varnadore, at Providence Baptist Church, 3501 Providence Road, Hayes, VA 23072 followed by interment in the church cemetery. Although Margie is no longer with us, the memory of her love of God, her devotion to family, and her dedicated friendship to so many will continue in our hearts. "Arthur Glen Aycock of Hayes died at his home on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at the age of 80 surrounded by family. Glen was born in North Carolina on July 10, 1943, to the late Charlie and Ruby Aycock. He graduated from the Newport News Apprentice School, was president of his class, and was awarded athlete of the year by the school. He worked as a hull designer at Newport News Shipbuilding, Gibbs and Cox, and Rosenblatt. He was a member of the Abingdon Ruritan Club. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching football, and cooking his barbecue. Glen is survived by his loving wife, Paulette Aycock, two children, Kimberly Stefanick (Jay) of Yorktown and Chris Aycock (Becky) of Mechanicsville, four grandchildren, Braeden Aycock, Alexis Stefanick, Bailey Aycock, and Emma Stefanick, a brother Charles Lee Aycock, and three sisters, Faye Barracks, Linda Miller and Janice Smith, along with many wonderful nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. "Cabot \u0026quot;Hayes\u0026quot; Williams passed away on October 20, 2023, in Gloucester County, VA. He was born on September 21, 1933, at Hayes Store, VA, in the home of his parents, Preston Cabot Williams and Mae Thornton Williams. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Ann Williams, his son, Roger Hayes Williams, his brother William Lee Williams, and his sister Camelia Williams Hogge. He is survived by his son, David Williams, his daughter-in-law, Kim Williams, his granddaughter, Blair Nein, her husband, Johnny Nein, his granddaughter, Lindsey Williams, and his great-grandson John Robert Nein III, and several cousins. Hayes graduated from Achilles High School in Gloucester County, VA in 1950. He worked at Gloucester-Yorktown Ferry briefly and then for four years at NASA in Langley Field, VA. In 1956 he married his high school sweetheart. He went on to work for Amoco Oil Company at their Yorktown Refinery as a Process Operation Supervisor and then later wrote process procedure and training manuals. He retired in 1994 and then assisted his son, David, in establishing Rivercraft Marine, boat sales and service in Gloucester, VA. Hayes made a profession of faith in Jesus Christ at 12 years old and was baptized at Providence Baptist Church on November 25, 1945. He enjoyed serving in various capacities in the Baptist churches for many years. These included Sunday school teaching, singing in the choir, Deacon, and working with his wife on mission projects. He enjoyed local history and family genealogy. He liked to garden and grow things like flowers, shrubs, trees, and vegetables. Travel was another favorite activity; he and Joyce took their two sons camping in all 48 consecutive U. S. states while they were young boys. Their family went boating and fishing locally as well. After his sons were adults, Joyce and Hayes traveled to all continents of the world. Bird watching was a large part of their travels and time at home. They were members of bird clubs, native plant clubs, and conservation organizations; appreciation of God\u0027s creation was a large part of their lives. The family will receive friends on Monday, October 30, 2023, from 10:00 a. m. until 10:45 a. m. at Gloucester Point Baptist Church. The funeral service officiated by Pastor Bill West will be at 11:00 a. m. followed by interment at Rosewell Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
