Ruth Jackson, age 90, of Winter Haven, Florida passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023. She was born on January 1, 1933 in Wildwood, Florida. Ruth dedicated her life to taking care of her family and serving the Lord. She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Eagle Lake. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband F. C. (Frank) Jackson, father A. W. Lee Sr. , mother Ethel (Gatch) Lee, her 3 brothers Wilber Lee, A. W. Lee Jr. , and Homer Lee as well as her 2 sisters Aubrey Smith and Marjorie Lee. She is survived by her sister Naomi Maddox (Jerry) of Wildwood, FL, daughter Jean Bilbrey (Dwight) of Winter Haven, FL, daughter Judy Wilkerson (Rex) of Auburndale, FL, her 4 grandchildren Jennifer Swamson (David) of Winter Haven, FL, Cristie Aguilar (Jose) of Winter Haven, FL, David Bilbrey (Tiffany) of Bartow, FL, and Pamela Gardner (Craig) of Auburndale, FL as well as her 9 great-grandchildren Derrien Young, Devin young, Deshaun Young, Deion Young, Deedrich Young (Ashley), Tyler Wilkerson, Camryn Gardner, Bailey Swamson, Logan Swamson, Breeann Bilbrey and Bryce Bilbrey Weiss. Ruth also leaves behind her 3 great-great-grandchildren Kaya Young, Alaiya Wilkerson and Elijah Bruno along with a multitude of extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly. Services will be held at First Baptist Church of Eagle Lake on Monday, October 9, 2023 with a visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with a funeral service to begin at 11:00 AM. Miles Hampton Plowden III, 88 years old, went home to be with the Lord on the evening of Dec 5, 2023. He is survived by Christel R. Plowden, first wife, Winter Haven; Cherrie P. Jordan, sister, Haines City; Crystal P. (Thomas) Williams, daughter and Hamp (Diane) Plowden, son, both of Winter Haven; Dirk (Becky) Touchton stepson, of Lakeland; Darrin Touchton, and Lanae (Shawn) Touchton-Humphrey both of Jacksonville, and his dog Mabel, his loyal companion, of Avon Park. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Miles was preceded in death by his parents, Alletha J. and Miles H. Plowden, second wife Carolyn Meeks Plowden, and stepson Larry Touchton. He was a proud veteran, author, raconteur, conservative, tinkerer, dreamer, entrepreneur, and patriot. Miles was born in Frostproof and raised in Winter Haven, Florida. He attended Inwood Elementary, Winter Haven High School, and Mars Hill College. He later joined the U. S. Army where he proudly served as a flight medic stationed in Germany. Miles held various professional roles in the citrus industry and U. S. Department of Agriculture. After retiring, Miles became an author of several books; he loved writing and telling stories of old Florida and his childhood adventures. He was frequently called upon to lecture on Florida and Polk County history. Not known for letting the facts necessarily get in the way of a good story, he always enjoyed the spotlight.Show more

Betty Jean Heath, age 76, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on December 3, 2023 at her home. Betty lived in Macclenny, Florida for 20 years and most recently lived in Winter Haven, Florida. She was a former manager of several Family Dollar Stores located in Macclenny, Auburndale, and Winter Haven, Florida for 30 years. She enjoyed attending services at Macclenny Church of God. Betty loved to crochet, solve word search puzzles, and watch John Wayne movies. She is preceded in death by her parents: Howard and Lois Heath. She is survived by her two daughters, Vicky (Robbie) Burnsed of Baxter, Florida and Stephanie (Jack) Hatten of Winter Haven, Florida: siblings, Chris Heath and Diane Kent both of Jacksonville, Florida: four grandchildren, Aaron (Rachel) Burnsed, Robbin (Ron) Harper both of Macclenny, Florida, and Alton Hatten and Ty Hatten both of Winter Haven, Florida: four great-grand children, Addy Harper, Brecken Harper, Kane Burnsed, and Rory Burnsed. On November 21, 2023 Bueford passed away peacefully in his home under hospice care at the age of 81. He had just celebrated his 54th wedding anniversary with his wife Fay Yates. He was born on July 4th, 1942 in Samson, Alabama then his family moved to Central Florida in 1956 where he graduated high school in 1965 from Haines City High. Bueford was a hardworking, family man that was always proud to talk about his work projects as a heavy equipment operator along with his love for his family. He had many hobbies including bowling (he was actually on a bowling league once), reading tons of books, tending to his small garden, his grape vines & abundance of fruit trees. He also never passed up an opportunity to go fishing or hunting for deer. And if you were ready to play dominoes or poker, he was always game & ready to take your money. Bueford spent a lot of time with his family either on summer vacations in the Smokey Mountains or weekend get togethers at his parents home. They were more like family reunions which could not make him any happier. He is survived by his wife, Fay, his son, Lennie and his family, his daughter, Angel & her husband Jay. He is also survived by his older sister Geraldine & his younger sister, Doris along with many cousins, nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Cloise & Bessie Yates, his two brothers, Edward & Earnest as well as his sister Aldene. He will be missed by all & remembered forever.Show more

Jacquelyn A. Pinckney passed away on December 3, 2023. Jackie was born in Union, Missouri and went to nursing school in St. Louis. She moved to Winter Haven where she raised her daughters, married Vincent Pinckney, and was the head nurse for Doctors Barranco, Briggs and Rooney. Jackie was an active member of the community; including, a member of First Presbyterian Church of Winter Haven where she embraced a ministry of providing teddy bears to those in need of comfort, former President of the Winter Haven High School Band Boosters, a Girl Scout Leader, a member of the Planters Garden Club, and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Jackie is preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Pinckney, and her long-term companion, John H. Gray. She is survived by her daughter, Christi Nicolay (Kenny Burns); her daughter, Cheryl Nicolay Giacomuzzi (Paul); her grandsons, Mark Schoenike and Scott Schoenike; her sister, Shirley Volk; the Gray Family; and the many friends to whom she was their second mother. The family would like to thank Dr. Gasner, Dr. Bolanos, Dr. Chandrasekhar, Dr. Christiano, Home Instead and Good Shepherd Hospice for their continuous loving care. John graduated from Winter Haven High School and was a part of the Florida Southern College ROTC. John entered the United States Army as a Second Lieutenant and was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia. John reached the rank of Captain. Fort Benning was where John met the love of his life, Carolyn Ann Sherwin. They married and enjoyed a loving 59 years together. John was a giver throughout his life. He was a member of several Board of Directors in Winter Haven, FL. John was the Commander of the Polk County Sheriff's SWAT Team for several years. John maintained his spit and polish professional appearance throughout his life. John appreciated the men and women in law enforcement who proudly serve and protect the citizens of their respective communities. John's motto was Service Before Self. John worked in several professions to include Citrus, The Polk County Sheriff's Office as a Sergeant in the Law Enforcement Division, and Corporate Security Director for the Winter Haven Hospital. John was preceded in death by his parents, James L. and Rudy L. Thompson; sister, Marrion Sassard. John is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carolyn Ann; a sister, Evelyn Melton of Tallahassee, FL; brother, Clyde Thompson of Winter Haven, FL. John was also survived by his cat, "Cat". A service will be held at Oak Ridge Funeral Care 2425 Havendale Blvd. Winter Haven, FL on December 1, 2023 with a gathering of friends and family from 10:00 am- 11:00am.
