His love of sports continued into college where he played football and golf. Ben served in the US Army Airborne Division from 1970 to 1972. While raising his family, he worked in the asphalt industry, spending the last 14 years working summers in Fairbanks, Alaska. Family was the most important thing to Ben. Brooke Jacoby

Brooke Jacoby

Age - 46

December 7, 2023

It is with deep regret and sadness to announce the passing of Kristyn Brooke Jacoby in Petoskey, Michigan November 27, 2023 after losing her long battle with cancer. Born July 13, 1977, Brooke's younger years were spent in Barrie, Ontario spending most of her free time on a horse farm where she eventually taught children the joys of riding while pursuing her passion for competitive jumping. Those days ended when she attended University of Guelph to receive her undergraduate degree in Social Sciences followed by her attending Bond University in Australia to pursue the study of law. She received her Juris Doctorate in Law in 2005; returning to Barrie to complete her articles with her Call to the Bar in 2008. Thereafter Brooke practiced law in Barrie, joining her father, Klaus N. Jacoby, and becoming a partner in 2010 under the firm name of Jacoby & Jacoby, Barristers & Solicitors, where she quickly developed a very successful practice in real estate law. Befitting Brooke's love of Christmas, she met her future husband, Luke McCrone at a Christmas party in 2011. On August 15, 2015, Brooke and Luke were married in Barrie and shortly thereafter, they relocated to the US, living in Jacksonville and New Orleans, and finally settling in Petoskey, MI. Brooke and Luke came to truly love all things Northern Michigan offered, and became deeply enmeshed in their community, purchasing a lovely home, surrounded by welcoming neighbors who have become close friends. Amidst Brooke's academic and professional accomplishments, her greatest was the birth of her two children, Preston, now aged 5, and Jake, almost 2. Brooke will always be remembered by those whom she touched as a beautiful and loving mother who cherished her children like no other. Her strength and resilience throughout her illness came from that love and that of her close friends. Throughout her life, she possessed a presence about her that attracted those around her with an uncanny ability to draw together as a group those she met. To fulfill her competitive spirit, she learned tennis, eventually joining a team of women who, as could be expected, became close friends. She also played golf and skied with both children and Luke. Fun loving, funny herself, and just a beautiful woman who lived for her children best describes who Brooke was. That is not to say that she did not love her shopping for clothes, handbags and shoes as well as sharing the odd glass of Veuve always with that smile that radiated wherever she went. She will be forever missed. Left surviving are her husband Luke McCrone, daughter Preston, son Jake, father Klaus Jacoby and his wife Carolyn and her children, mother Diane Jacoby and her partner Greg, Luke's parents, Marty & Julie McCrone and grand parents Muriel Lambert, Rosemarie Bradford and Barbara Jacoby. A celebration of Brooke's life will be held at the MacLaren Art Centre in Barrie ON January 13th, 2024, 4:30 to 7:30 pm.Show more
