Ms. Michelle "Mike" Louise Ryder, a beacon of love and faith, passed away on December 2, 2023, at her home in Grand Ledge, Michigan. Born on January 4,1950 in Jackson, Michigan, she lived a life characterized by kindness, generosity, and a deep commitment to her faith, community, and family. Michelle was the cherished daughter of Thomas J. and Bernice (Schlamb) Doyle, both of whom preceded her in death, along with her sisters, Cheryl Doyle and Cynthia Hudler. Her zest for life and her love of nature were evident from a young age and remained a constant throughout her life. Michelle was a 1968 graduate of St. John's Catholic High School in Jackson, MI. She was a devout member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Grand Ledge, MI. Michelle's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. Her involvement in the church community reflected her belief in service and compassion. After retiring from a dedicated career with the State of Michigan in 2011 after 32 years, she continued to serve others by working part-time as a cashier and greeter at Target from 2016 until 2022. Her warm smile and friendly conversations became a hallmark of many customers' shopping experiences. Michelle's spirit of volunteerism shone brightly through her work at Sparrow Hospital, where she spent countless hours, for more than 10 years, ensuring that patients and their families were met with kindness and support during challenging times. Michelle was an avid cyclist who created countless cherished memories with friends on scenic trails and in the great outdoors. Michelle embraced every opportunity to travel, exploring new places and cultures with an open heart and insatiable curiosity. She had always dreamed of making the trip to Hawaii. That dream trip to Hawaii became a reality in the spring of 2023, with her dear friend, Marta. It was everything she had dreamed of, and more. She beamed with happiness and excitedly shared every single picture she had upon her return. She had stories for hours about her trip to Hawaii. She treasured her annual tradition of a weeklong summer beach trip to Manistee, Michigan with her daughter Katie. She was a HUGE fan of MSU basketball and attended as many games as possible. If she was not in the stands of the Breslin Center cheering them on in person, she was watching the game on TV or listening on the radio. She LOVED her Spartans! Michelle was so proud of her heritage and her family history. She spent many hours researching and documenting her family's history and keeping everyone as connected as possible. At every single family function or holiday gathering, she was always the one behind the camera. It was always standard protocol to say "Wait a minute. . . . Michelle needs to get her camera. . . Did she get her pictures?"Above all, Michelle was a dedicated mother to her daughter, Katie Marie Ryder. She was a beloved sister to her brother Tim, and a doting aunt to her nieces, Jennifer and Stephanie, and nephew Christopher. Michelle's legacy is one of love and service, and she will be profoundly missed by her family, friends, and all who were touched by her extraordinary life. As we bid farewell to Michelle, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a spirit that will continue to guide us in the days to come.
