Age - 83
November 30, 2023
Surrounded by her family, June Smith Garrett, 83, of Poplarville, MS peacefully departed for her heavenly home on Saturday, November 25, 2023.
Mrs. Garrett was born on June 15, 1940 in Poplarville to Leo M. Smith, Sr. and Hilda Amacker Smith. She graduated from Poplarville High School and Pearl River Community College. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Poplarville for 50 years, where she taught pre-school and Sunday school.
On September 30, 1961, June married Harry Garrett, and the two embarked on a love story which would last 62 years. June and Harry possessed a true love admired by many. More than husband and wife, June and Harry were strong partners, each complementing each other's strengths. With her beloved Harry, June founded and was co-owner of Garrett Industries which employed hundreds of community members for over twenty-five years.
June found joy through her devotion to her family. Her home was a welcoming haven filled with the laughter of children and friends. While she was a successful businesswoman, it was no secret that June was most proud of her children, Hope, Brad, and Blaine. The picture of a Christian mother, June provided an excellent example to her children of grace, kindness, and compassion. Her character will continue to live on in the lessons she instilled in each of her children.
Later, her devotion was to her grandchildren, who frequently spent more time at June-Mom's house than at their own homes. Each fondly remembers afternoons spent with June, drinking coffee or enjoying June's exceptional home-cooked meals. June's grandchildren have fond memories of many vacations, football and baseball games, and cheer competitions. But more than those, it is the quiet moments spent at June Mom's house, listening and learning, which has left a profound impact on each of her grandchildren's lives.
In addition to her parents, June is preceded in death by one brother, Leo M. Smith, Jr, one sister, Dorothy Carol Bilbo, brother-in-law, Monroe Bilbo, sister-in-law, Jackie Branch, and infant granddaughter, Angel Garrett.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Harry, one daughter, Hope (Bruce) Roberts, and 2 sons, Brad (Sonya) Garrett, and Blaine (Melissa) Garrett, brother Charles (Deborah) Smith, grandsons, Colby (Caitlin) Roberts, Garrett (Alli) Roberts, Blaine (Kristen) Garrett, Clay Garrett, Rhett Garrett, Taylor Turnage, Tyler Turnage granddaughters, Ravyn June Garrett, Bree Ford, great granddaughters, Alice Garrett, Alayna Garrett, Halle Roberts, Addilyn Ly and Aubree Ford, and one great grandson, Haven Roberts.
