Russell Gregory Allen passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023 at his home at the age of 61. He was born in Tennessee on January 15, 1962 to Richard and Marilou Allen. His larger than life personality and quick wit made him the funniest man in the room. Russell will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard Allen and Marilou Stevenson Allen. Left to forever cherish his memory are his daughter, Amanda Thompson (Nicholas); two sons, Russell "Tony" Allen (Angelyn) and Aaron Allen (Rebecca Nunez); and his grandson, Benjamin Thompson. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023 at 2:00pm at White Funeral Home in Poplarville. Friends are invited to join the family for fellowship from noon until the service begins.

Dolores Thomas Smith, 88, a resident of Poplarville, Mississippi, died on Sunday, December 3, 2023. Dolores attended Pearl River Community College, received her B. S. degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and then her Masters of Business Administration (M. B. A. ) degree from the University of Mississippi. She was a member of the Pearl River Community College faculty for 43 years, serving as chair of the Business Department during the final 27 years prior to her retirement in 2001. Over the years Dolores was involved in civic activities, including serving for a number of years as member of the Board of Trustees of the Pearl River County Library Board and then further years as a Trustee of the Advisory Board of the Poplarville Library Board. She was a long time member of the Pearl River County Master Gardeners and served as president of that organization. She was also a long time member of the Blueberry Jubilee Council and a member of the Pearl River County Extension Service Advisory Board. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Poplarville and a longtime member of the church choir. In addition to Dolores' professional involvement as an educator and her civic activities, she was a devoted wife and mother. She is preceded in death by her husband, Martin T. Smith and her parents, Barney and Winnie Thomas and one sister, Carolyn Nall. Dolores leaves to forever cherish her memory to her one son, Martin Barney Smith; three grandsons, Adam, Evan and Andrew (Kaitlin) Smith, all of Poplarville, MS; and one sister, Vicki Smith. Family and friends are invited to attend Dolores' funeral service on Friday, December 8, 2023 for 2:00 pm at White Funeral Home, 315 Hwy 11 South, Poplarville, MS. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am. Burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Rev. Dr. Eric Pridmore will officiate the services.Show more

Surrounded by her family, June Smith Garrett, 83, of Poplarville, MS peacefully departed for her heavenly home on Saturday, November 25, 2023. Mrs. Garrett was born on June 15, 1940 in Poplarville to Leo M. Smith, Sr. and Hilda Amacker Smith. She graduated from Poplarville High School and Pearl River Community College. She was a devoted member of First Baptist Church of Poplarville for 50 years, where she taught pre-school and Sunday school. On September 30, 1961, June married Harry Garrett, and the two embarked on a love story which would last 62 years. June and Harry possessed a true love admired by many. More than husband and wife, June and Harry were strong partners, each complementing each other's strengths. With her beloved Harry, June founded and was co-owner of Garrett Industries which employed hundreds of community members for over twenty-five years. June found joy through her devotion to her family. Her home was a welcoming haven filled with the laughter of children and friends. While she was a successful businesswoman, it was no secret that June was most proud of her children, Hope, Brad, and Blaine. The picture of a Christian mother, June provided an excellent example to her children of grace, kindness, and compassion. Her character will continue to live on in the lessons she instilled in each of her children. Later, her devotion was to her grandchildren, who frequently spent more time at June-Mom's house than at their own homes. Each fondly remembers afternoons spent with June, drinking coffee or enjoying June's exceptional home-cooked meals. June's grandchildren have fond memories of many vacations, football and baseball games, and cheer competitions. But more than those, it is the quiet moments spent at June Mom's house, listening and learning, which has left a profound impact on each of her grandchildren's lives. In addition to her parents, June is preceded in death by one brother, Leo M. Smith, Jr, one sister, Dorothy Carol Bilbo, brother-in-law, Monroe Bilbo, sister-in-law, Jackie Branch, and infant granddaughter, Angel Garrett. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Harry, one daughter, Hope (Bruce) Roberts, and 2 sons, Brad (Sonya) Garrett, and Blaine (Melissa) Garrett, brother Charles (Deborah) Smith, grandsons, Colby (Caitlin) Roberts, Garrett (Alli) Roberts, Blaine (Kristen) Garrett, Clay Garrett, Rhett Garrett, Taylor Turnage, Tyler Turnage granddaughters, Ravyn June Garrett, Bree Ford, great granddaughters, Alice Garrett, Alayna Garrett, Halle Roberts, Addilyn Ly and Aubree Ford, and one great grandson, Haven Roberts. Services honoring June's life will take place at White Funeral Home, 315 Hwy 11 South, Poplarville, on Saturday at 11:00 a. m. , followed by burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends and visitors during the visitation from 9:30 until 11:00 a. m. Alvin Eugene Sheasby of Carriere, Mississippi passed away on Friday, November 24, 2023, at the age of 84. Alvin was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on October 10, 1939, to Elbert and Myrtle Sheasby. He grew up in the Greater New Orleans area before joining the United States Air Force. After his Air Force service, Alvin worked at the Michoud Assembly Facility during the time of the Apollo program. He was a purchaser for several New Orleans-based defense and commercial companies, including Textron Marine Systems. Alvin retired in 2001 and enjoyed a quiet life in Louisiana, Arkansas and finally Mississippi. Alvin was active in the local dance communities, mostly recreational, while also participating in a few competitive dances. Alvin played contract bridge for most of his life. He always found opportunities to play no matter the location. During the last few years, you could find Alvin playing at the American Contract Bridge League in Slidell. Alvin was also an avid New Orleans Saints fan and went to numerous games with his family, going all the way back to the Tulane Stadium days. He was also a fan of the Tulane Green Wave, attending games when family was in town. Alvin was a loving son, husband and father. He cared deeply for his family and loved spending time with them. He is preceded in death by his parents, Elbert and Myrtle Sheasby; stepmother, Nellie Sheasby, his first wife, Ruby Katherine Sheasby, and stepson Stanley Raichel. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Estelle Robinson Korczak, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and beacon of kindness and generosity. Estelle passed away peacefully on November 24, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, warmth, and cherished memories. Estelle was born on July 27, 1939, in Birmingham, Alabama to the late Paul Robinson and Ruth Robinson Ladner. She loved and admired her older sister, Pauline Robinson Lee who preceded her in death in 2021. In 1959, she joined hands in marriage with the love of her life, Mark J. Korczak, embarking on a journey of 64 years of shared joys and challenges. Their union was a testament to the enduring power of love and commitment. Estelle and Mark resided in New Orleans and Chalmette, Louisiana for many years. And for nearly two decades, Estelle worked as a dental assistant in New Orleans. As a devoted wife, Estelle was the heart of her home, creating a haven of love and support for her family. Estelle's greatest joys in life were found in the roles of mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She poured boundless love into her children, Denise Melerine and John Korczak. Her nurturing spirit extended to her son-in-law, the late Keith Melerine, and daughter-in-law, Monica Korczak, fostering a sense of belonging within the family. Estelle adored her grandchildren, Courtney Chauppetta (Shane), Ashley Liuzza (Chris), and Briston Korczak, and great- granddaughter, Samantha Chauppetta, each of whom held a special place in her heart. She delighted in their accomplishments, celebrated their milestones, and loved them unconditionally. Her legacy will live on through the lessons she imparted, the traditions she instilled, and the love she showered upon generations. Estelle was not only a loving matriarch but also a gracious hostess. She took great joy in welcoming friends and family into her home, and there was always a pot of coffee brewing. The warmth of her hospitality created an atmosphere where laughter and shared moments flourished, making her home a gathering place for cherished memories. As we mourn the loss of this loving woman, let us also celebrate the life of Estelle Robinson Korczak. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration, and may the love she gave so freely continue to resonate in the hearts of all who were privileged to know her.
