Rufus Hutchings Obituary

RUFUS HUTCHINGS (April 30, 1923 - May 9, 2023)HUTCHINGS, RUFUS. Passed peacefully away at the Veterans Pavilion on Tuesday May 9th, 9 days after his 100th birthday. Rufus served in the British Royal Navy from 1941 to 1946 during World War II. Predeceased by his wife Effie (Green), great grandchild David Spears, brothers Ralph, Frank, Eugene, and sister Rellie Payne. Leaving to mourn two daughters, Barbara Gibbons (Calvin), Katherine Dawe (David), five grandchildren, Sharon Linthorne (Jim), Earl Gibbons (Marcia), Michelle Mills (Roger), Stephanie Spears (Matthew), Timothy Dawe (Karl). Ten great grandchildren, Sarah, Alexandra, Adam, Darcy, Cameron, Brianna, Ezra, Charlie, Michael and Emma. One brother Percy Hutchings (Mariette) in Ontario, and many nieces and nephews. We would like thank the staff of the Veterans Pavilion for their outstanding care and respect that they gave our father over the past three years. Resting at Barrett's Funeral Home, 73 Commonwealth Avenue, Mount Pearl. Visitation on Thursday, May 11th from 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 with funeral service Friday, May 12th, 11:00 am at Barrett's Mount Pearl Chapel. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Field of Honour. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Bible Society.
