December 10, 2023

Mr. Larry Houtz was born on July 26, 1947, to the late Vernon Dale Houtz and Edna Rice Houtz. Larry departed from this world on December 7, 2023 at the age of 76. Larry was a loving brother, husband, father, and grandude, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, humor, and many adventures. Larry's military journey spanned 22 years. He served as a hospital corpsman (HM) in Vietnam, a pharmacy tech, and a Chief Petty Officer. Following his naval career, he continued his commitment by working in Veterans Affairs and later for the State of Virginia, impacting the lives of veterans and citizens with his service. Larry is survived by his loving wife Phyllis Houtz. The couple were on the precipice of commemorating their 50th wedding anniversary, a milestone that would have marked half a century of deep love, laughter, and shared escapades. Larry's love extended to his son Kenley Houtz, along with Ken's wife Catherine and their children Riley, Eli, and Ben. He also cherished his daughter Holly Houtz Anthony, her husband Craig, and their daughter Lincoln. As we bid farewell to this remarkable man, let us not mourn his departure, but rather celebrate the legacy he leaves behind--the infectious spirit that illuminated even the darkest corners and his remarkable ability to infuse joy into every moment, often accompanied by a well-timed joke. In honoring Larry's memory, may we be inspired by his zest for life and the profound impact he had on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him.
