Rosetta Williams Keen, 83, of 7895 Axton Rd, Axton, VA, passed away, Thursday, October 5, 2023 at her residence. Born October 17, 1939 in North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Walter Williams and Almeda Adams Williams. She was married to King Keen who survives. In addition to her husband of the residence survivors include one son, Kenneth Keen of Axton, VA; six grandchildren, Patrice Moyer, Charity Hairston, Keon Keen, Kyre Keen, Joshua Keen and Kamarian Keen; seven great-grandchildren, Porsha Moyer, Precious Moyer, Cansas Hairston, Dakota Hairston, Camden Hairston, Payden Moyer and Patrick Moyer; seven sisters, Mary Jane Wytch, Shirley Ann Strange (Walter), Virginia Ingram and Donna Adams (Sherman) all of Cascade, Minnie Giles (Culas). Josephine Stockton (Richard) both of Martinsville, VA and Wanda Jean Clements (Marcellus); two brothers, Freddy Green Williams (Doris) of Martinsville, VA and Joseph Williams (Rose) Linden, NJ. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two sons, Kelvin Keen and Kenyon Keen, seven sisters, Viola W. Adams, Nannie B. Strange, Leona Hairston, Martha A. Wilson, Alberta Walker, Catherine Dillard and Annie M. Best two brothers, Grover C. Williams and Charles E. Williams. The family will receive friends at the residence. Funeral services will be conduct on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 12 Noon from Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church with, Rev. F. Dion. Noel, Eulogist. Interment will follow at the Keen's Family Cemetery in Axton, VA. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023 from 4-6 PM and Monday, October 9, 2023 at 11:30 AM with the family present. On December 5, 2023, Holley Self Preston gained her angel wings and declared victory over all pain and suffering on this earth. Holley's last few years truly revealed her strength and courage to everyone, and it reinforced her faith and trust in God as she held to His unchanging hand. Holley did her best to live as God commanded us all to live, as a shining light and representative of His love. Holley had a special place in her heart for children. She enjoyed spoiling them and calling them "her babies. " She also adored Broadway Shows and New York City. Whether you followed her on social media or were blessed enough to have known her personally, Holley shared her life's journey with others so that they may be blessed by it in some way. She fought a good fight and loved her family with all she had, and now she can truly rest. Holley was born on July 17, 1972, in Danville, VA, to Vickye Dyanna Pittmon and Thomas William Self, III. Holley and her devoted husband, Sean Alonzo Preston, were married on December 19, 2010, and together they raised their family in Chatham, VA. The young family accepted Christ through baptism and worshiped as members of Greater Triumph Missionary Baptist Church, Chatham , VA. , under the pastorship of the late, Reverend Michael K. Ferrell, Sr. Holley loved the spiritual guidance and support from Pastor Ferrell, First Lady, Roxane Ferrell, as well as her church family and praying friends. Holley found peace in the toughest of times because of this foundation. Holley's academic journey involved a few schools in the area before she joined the adult, workforce. Holley attended Woodlawn Academy, Chatham High School, Hargrave Military Academy, and graduated from George Washington High School. After graduation, she continued her studies at Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville, VA. Following college, Holley worked as a Zoning Administrator for Campbell County and as a Code Enforcement Inspector for the City of Danville. She also worked as the Office Manager for the software company, Technique Solutions, Inc. , in Martinsville, VA. Holley even found time to serve as a caregiver for two elderly women whom she adored. In addition to her dedicated mother, Vickye Pittmon, loving parents Thomas and Kay Self, and her devoted husband, Sean Preston, whom she cherished with all of her heart, Holley will be lovingly remembered by three doting sons, Travian Rahsean Preston, Kalure Rahsaan Preston (Grace), and Shy'hee Akee Preston (Alexis); three precious grandchildren, Kace Preston, Knoelani Preston, and Kaeden Preston; two sisters, Wendy McDaniel (Steve) and Amy Self; and a host of devoted aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dearly devoted friends to include her two, life-long friends, Jessica Dalton (Timothy) and Melanie Daniel (Gregory). Born April 18, 1946 in Danville, VA, he was the son of the late Oliver Wilson, Sr. and Elrethea Robertson Wilson. He was married to Pamela Law Wilson. He was a Veteran of the United States Army. In addition to his wife of the residence, survivors include one daughter, DeAsia Wilson of Danville, VA; one son, Damien Wilson of Danville, VA; two grandsons, Jaiden Wilson and Carter Wilson; seven sisters, Joyce White of Washington, DC, Clara Foye (Vernon) of Brandywine, MD, Brenda Reed of Eastern, PA, Linda Cosby (Samuel) of Plainfield, NJ, Audrey Caldwell of Charlotte, NC, Deborah Gabby (John) of Bethlehem, PA and Janice Wilson of Temple Hill, MD; three brothers, Rev. Frederick Wilson (Carolyn), Jackie Wilson (Tammy) and Lorenzo Wilson (Pamela) all of Danville, VA and a host of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three siblings, Loretta Tonge, Geneva Mims and Oliver Wilson, Jr. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, December 12, 2023 at 12 Noon from Mt. Mrs. Carolyn Willis Moran, age 75, of Danville, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at Sovah Health. Mrs. Moran was born on July 6, 1948 in Danville, Virginia to the late Kathleen Dayton Willis and Raymond Willis. Mrs. Moran spent most of her life in Danville working for Child Support Enforcement until her retirement. Mrs. Moran is survived by her sons, Andrew Moran (Kristen) and Chris Moran (Sandy); brothers Ray Willis and Dwight Willis; 6 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Nancy Flowers Gibson, age 76, of Danville, VA, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. Mrs. Gibson was born on February 9, 1947, a daughter of the late William A. Flowers and Mary Tanksley Flowers. Mrs. Gibson lived most of her life in Danville where she loved to go dancing, and listening to country and gospel music. She loved visiting with family and friends and playing with her new furry friend "Bella". She was married to Robert M. Gibson who preceded her in death. Mrs. Gibson is survived by her daughter, Connie Jarrett and husband Robert, "Bobby"; grandchildren, Caitlyn Jarrett, Tyler Jarrett, and Michael Bradshaw; brothers, Ronnie Thomas Flowers (Charlotte) of Ringgold and Billy Ray Flowers (Pat) of Danville and her new furry friend, "Bella". Born July 15, 1955 in Martinsville, VA, she was the daughter of the late James Flood and Marjorie Stockton Flood. She was married to Steven Echols, Sr. , who survives. In addition to her husband of the residence, survivors include one daughter, Danielle Spencer of Martinsville, VA; four sons, Daniel Spencer, III of Danville, VA, Christopher Spencer of Greensboro, NC, Steven Echols, Jr. (Brianna) of Charlotte, NC and Darius Echols of Martinsville, VA; seven grandchildren, Rion Martin, Kailee Spencer, Asher Echols, Andrew Echols, Dakota Hagwood-Echols, Steven Echols, III and Charles Echols; three sisters and a host of other relatives and friends. Alice May Snead Scearce, 84, of Danville, VA passed away Monday, December 4, 2023. Alice was born March 31, 1939, in Rockingham County, NC to the late Posey Snead and the late Mozelle Coward Snead. Alice was a loving mother and grandmother and she found great joy and fulfilment in helping raise her family. She was a longtime member of Woodberry Hill Baptist Church, having served in many capacities, such as a Trustee and Sunday School Teacher. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, knitting, and was a master gardener. After many years of service as RN/BSN Alice retired from Danville Regional Medical Center. She is survived by her daughter, Karen Pruitt (Ken); sons, Donnie Scearce (Poogie), and Greg Scearce; grandchildren, Jayme Scearce, Rhyan Scearce, Eric Pruitt, and Erin Pruitt; sister, Martha S. Hundley; and brothers, Everette Snead (Sharon), and William "Bill" Snead. In addition to her parents, she was also predeceased by two brothers, Robert "Bob" Snead, and Jack R. Snead. A funeral will be held at 11:00 a. m. , Thursday, December 7, 2023, at Norris Funeral Services, West End Chapel, 511 Church Ave. , Danville, VA 24541 with Pastor Richard Motley officiating. Gustavo E. Galvez, 78, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2023. He was born in Ecuador on September 21, 1945, to the late Glafira Cobo Galvez and the late Teodoro Galvez. He is survived by his special friend and partner of 41 years, Mr. Donald Paris. Gustavo was self employed as a architect for many years while living in Ecuador. Upon moving to the United States, he worked for over 30 years as an interpreter in the court system. He also had a special love for animals. In addition to his special friend Donald, Gustavo is survived by a sister: Hermania and a brother Eduardo; a special Niece; Jacqueline Martin and husband Patrick; and two step sons; Stephen Edward Paris and Daniel Cory Paris. In addition to his parents, Gustavo was predeceased by five sisters; Nimia, Hiralda, Juanita, Rosario, and Elsa; and 1 brother. Yeatts and the late Pinkey Shelton Yeatts. She was predeceased by her husband of many years, Nathan Woodrow Talley. Mrs. Rogers was of the Methodist faith, and she worked as a ward secretary for Danville Memorial Hospital for many years before her retirement. She is survived by a son, Nathan Talley (Linda), two daughters, Teresa Scott, and Beverley Grime (Michael), as well as grandchildren, Adam Scott, Leslie Roberts (Keith), and Lindsey Ward (Joseph), and step-granddaughter, Stacy Grime. She is also survived by great-grandchildren Caroline Roberts, Lawson Roberts, Finnley Ward, and Tate Ward. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Rogers was predeceased by a daughter, Brenda Faye Adkins, and her second husband Walter Rogers. Gene Ray Hawker, age 87, of Danville, VA passed away Friday, December 1, 2023, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Hawker was born September 16, 1936, in Pittsylvania County, VA to the late Ray Edward Hawker and the late Macie Daniel Hawker. He was happily married to his loving wife, Patsy Jean White Hawker, who survives, of the residence. Mr. Hawker was of the Primitive Baptist faith, and he worked for over 40 years at Disston, Inc. After their closure, he worked an additional 10 years at Dan River Mills, Inc. before his retirement. He is survived, in addition to his wife, by two sons, Micheal Anthony Hawker (Teresa) and Raymond Edward Phelps, both of Danville, two brothers, Neal Hawker of Richmond, VA, and Mark Hawker (Linda), of Danville, and a sister Dale H. Norton (Roy) of Blairs, VA. In addition, he is survived by three grandchildren, Christopher and Jonathan Hawker, and Richard Phelps. In addition to his parents, Mr. Hawker was predeceased by four sisters, Nancy H. Moyer, Hazel H. Moyer, Dianne H. Powers, and Jeanett Compton, as well as a brother Ryland Hawker.
