Rose Rosen (nee Rose Waldman), died on Thursday September 15, 2022. She was born on June 12, 1925 in Manchester England, the daughter of Max and Polly Waldman. She was the youngest of four children, with beloved elder brothers Nathan, Abraham and David. While growing up in Manchester she experienced the dangers of World War II when the city was repeatedly hit by German bombing raids. She married Emanuel (Manny) Rosen in 1947. They were married for 54 years until Manny passed away in 2001. They had three children together-Rowena, Martin and Maxine. Seeking greater economic opportunities, Rose and Manny moved to the United States from England in 1957, initially settling in Boston, MA. Due to Manny's employment with a major retail chain, they lived in a series of communities in the Northeast from 1957 until 1963 when they decided to put down roots in Amsterdam, NY. Rose worked in retail for many years, including the Hobby Centre, Dollars and Sense, the New Paris Shop and Carl Co. Rose was devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren Zachary, Emma, Stuart and Jennifer. One great-grandchild, Joshua. The walls and furniture of her home are covered in photographs of her children and grandchildren. She greatly missed her daughter Maxine's Partner, Art Swanson, who predeceased her. Rose and Manny had a large circle of friends and Rose loved to entertain, showing off her excellent cooking skills whenever possible. Her trifle dessert and noodle pudding were always in demand. She was very proud of her Jewish heritage and actively participated in several roles while a member of Amsterdam's Congregation Sons of Israel. Although she did not have the opportunity herself, she strongly believed in a broad education for her children and encouraged them to seek opportunities to learn and grow. She loved musicals, literature, old movies and professional boxing. She will be deeply missed by her entire family, including her loving children, Rowena, Marty and Maxie, as well as son-in-law Mordy Melnitsky(Rowena) and daughter-in-law Sudi Solomon (Marty). In the last few years of her life, her sole wish was for "health and peace for all the good people". Robert, who was mostly known by Bob, Bobby, Bobby Flowers and especially Papa, passed away on Monday December 4, 2023. Born on August 10, 1973, he was a graduate of Amsterdam High School. For the last 16 years he managed as well as designed beautiful floral arrangements at White Cottage Gardens in Amsterdam. Bob had an incredible talent and truly enjoyed his work. Presently he was chairman of the board at the Horace J. Inman Senior Center as well as a member of Amsterdam Rotary Club, both of which he enjoyed their many events and met a lot of his friends. We will all miss his cooking, humor, generosity and love. He had a heart of gold and will be remembered for his generous spirit of helping others. He is survived by his mother Connie; loving wife Kelly; brother, Chris (Samantha); his favorite sister Kara; his stepchildren, Jay (Missy), Neil (Jamie), Zach (Jess), Steve (Sophia), Rochelle (Brian), Rachel (Corey); and several grandchildren. His niece, Ivy Dulysz; godmother, Sharon Agresta; godchildren Aislynn & Quinlan McMahon; special friends, Frank & Peggy Szyjkowski, Mike Sampone & Shane Hoefs; aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, members of the Gugliemelli family, countless friends and many customers. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Ray & Dolly Agresta and Jaroslaw & Eugenia Dulysz; his godfather & uncle Gene Agresta; as well as other uncles, aunts and cousins. Francis G. "Frank" DeRosa, 84 of Johnstown passed away peacefully on the early morning of November 30, 2023 at the Wells Nursing Home in Johnstown. He was born April 17, 1939, in Gloversville, the son of Anthony and Esther (Travaglione) DeRosa. In 1965 he married Michelina "Lena" Malagisi. They were married for 55 years before her passing in 2020. He served in the US Army and traveled abroad. In 1965 he was employed by the Gloversville Federal Savings and Loan Association. He spent 28 years there; first as a teller, head of the savings department and then head of the student loan department. In 1975 he was promoted to assistant treasurer and in 1977 he became the corporate treasurer/CFO. Frank remained in that position until his retirement in 1993. He completed many courses through the American Savings and Loan Institution and was a member of various local financial organizations. He was President of the Capital District Chapter 131 of the Savings and Loan Institute and upon his retirement was treasurer of the Savings Forum for Auditors and Comptrollers, Upstate Division and Trustee for the Capital District Savings and Loan League. He held the position of Secretary/Treasurer of the New York State Forum for Operations, Audit and Control. He was instrumental in organizing, as well as the development and building of the Gloversville Federal Savings and Loan Branch in Saratoga Springs, now owned by NBT. After retirement he took a brief position as the Branch Manager of Albany Savings Bank in Johnstown and was a board member of the First Choice Financial Credit Union for many years. He was a lifetime member of the Concordia Club and The Knights of Columbus. In 2014 he became a 4 Degree Knight and held the position of Financial Secretary for the organization. He helped raise $750,000 toward the Martyr Shrine in Auriesville through the Knights of Columbus. He was an active member of Holy Trinity Church in Johnstown and served on the parish counsel, finance committee and performed duties as the trustee beginning in 1998. In addition to his parents and wife, he is also predeceased by his sister, Angel Graziano, a nice Christine (Graziano) Parker and many aunts and uncles. Frank is survived by his daughter Esther Carpenter, her husband Tim and their children: Andrew, John and Michael, Elizabeth (Beth) DeRosa, a son Anthony (Tony) DeRosa, his wife Katie and their children: Gianna, Francesca, Anthony and Sophia. He also leaves behind a cousin who was like a sister, Ann Sicilia and her husband Leo as well as special friends Sally Malagisi and John Pavlus. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Wells Nursing Home for the dedication, care, and compassion they have shown their dad while he was a resident there. Family will receive relatives and friends from 9-11 am on Saturday, December 9 at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger and Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. Delores J. DiMatteo Francisco Bielecki, 88, of Amsterdam, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 26, 2023 following a brief illness. Born in Amsterdam on February 2, 1935 she was the daughter of the late Victor and Philomena "Lena" DiMatteo. A lifelong area resident, Delores was a graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School. She was employed as a laborer and worked at many entities during her lifetime. She retired from Coleco. She was predeceased by her husbands, Richard Francisco and John Bielecki; her sons, Duane and Darren Francisco; and six of her siblings. Dee was devoted to her family. She especially loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren; and she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Ana Vega Martinez, 80, of Old Trail Road in Fonda, NY, passed away on Sunday, November 19th, 2023, surrounded by her Liberty ARC family. She was born on March 26, 1943, in Yauco, Puerto Rico to the late Rafael Vega Rodriguez and Luisa Martinez. Ana was one of a kind and will be greatly missed by all that knew her, especially her Liberty family. Ana made everyone's days brighter with her infectious smile and her ever present sassiness. Ana loved her home at Old Trail, and she was a true fixture at the house. Ana brought lots of laughter and joy to her housemates and staff. She could be found roaming around the house, holding her baby dolls, and humming to them like they were her children. Ana would visit her housemates' rooms and leave gifts on their beds to show her affection for them. Ana was very proud of her Spanish heritage and would constantly share with everyone that she was from Yauco. She loved everything about her culture, from the food to the music. Ana was a true cafe lover; she constantly would say "cafe" and even after having a cup she would ask for some more. She also enjoyed her cafe with a favorite Spanish cookie "Goya". Along with enjoying the simple pleasures of cafe, Ana loved her Spanish music and would dance while saying "Merengue, Merengue". She would also enjoy sitting out on the back porch in the summer basking in the warm weather. Ana was a beautiful soul that loved the simple pleasures of life and she touched the lives of everyone. Even in her final days, Ana warmed the hearts of those around her. Ana was surrounded by those she loved from Old Trail. She spent her final day at the house comfortable in her room, listening to Spanish music all day long. The staff can only hope that she loved her home and staff as much as we all loved her. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten. Sylvia Marie Swift passed away peacefully with her family by her side on November20th, 2023. Born on November 21st, 1957 to Harold and Rosetta May Swift, she was a 1976graduate of Schoharie High School. Upon graduation she moved to Amsterdam and wasemployed at Coleco & # 39;s in the quality control department. With the subsequent closing ofColeco she attended FMCC where received an associate degree in criminal justice andworked at the town court in Fonda for Judge Sise. She went on to work at Ward Products inAmsterdam before helping disabled people at Liberty ARC as a direct support professional. Sylvia was so much more than a name on a timeclock, she was a kind, generous andempathetic soul who loved to dance, bake (especially her Italian lemon knot cookies),spending countless hours with her grandchildren, cheering on her N. Y. Giants and gardening,Sylvia was our rock, our safe harbor, the hole in our hearts cannot be measured or filled. Dorothy "Dot" Elizabeth (Richtmyer) Nellis, age 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on November 23, 2023. She was born in Gloversville on February 27, 1943, to the late Charles S. Richtmyer, and Caroline Kelley Richtmyer. Dot led a fulfilling life marked by love, adventure, and family. Dot was a 1961 Gloversville High School graduate, a Nurse's Aide at Nathen Littauer Hospital and worked for a short time at Winnings slipper factory, in Gloversville prior to becoming a devoted wife to Richard "Dick" Nellis. They were married on June 2, 1962. With her husband being in the US Air Force, Dot embraced adventure, living in various states and overseas. Their travels enriched her life and those of her family, leaving them with a treasure trove of memories. They returned to Gloversville after Dick's retirement from the USAF. Dot and her family settled into a life enriched by the experiences and bonds of family. Dot was a loving mother who found joy in the simple pleasures of family life. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and shared with them everything from her love of reading and putting puzzles together to card games and how to be a Monopoly shark, or any game for that matter! Most famously, she was known for her love of elephants as shown through her vibrant collection of memorabilia from travels and cherished gifts from family members. She accepted everyone for themselves without judgement and advocated for others. She loved family gatherings and said that her family was the source of the most joy in her life. Her warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her legacy continues through her loving family and the countless memories shared. She is lovingly remembered by her husband, Dick, married for an admirable 61 years, two sisters, Catherine Nyland of Vermont, and Caroline Fitch of California; son, Kevin Nellis (Tae Jun Kwon); three daughters, Dorri DiPasquale (Glenn), Kelly Nellis, and Theresa Nellis-Matson (Jay) all of Gloversville; five grandchildren: Nicholas DiPasquale, Brandon DiPasquale, Sedrik Nellis, Skylar Matson, Benjamin Matson; three step-grandchildren: Christina DiPasquale, Jennifer Christman, and Brian DiPasquale; many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, brother Charles Richtmyer, sister Barbara R Nellis, and brother in-laws David Nellis, John Fitch, and Donald Nyland. The family expresses profound gratitude to all the staff at Mountain Valley Hospice. The care they provided reflected the love and respect she deserved towards her final destiny. May she rest in peace and love. As we bid farewell to Dot, we cherish her memory and celebrate a life filled with love, laughter, and the joy of discovery.
