Rosa Burris Barbee 95 of Oakboro died Saturday Evening, September 9, 2023 at Hospice of Union in Monroe. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00PM Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at Oakboro Cemetery. Rev. Barry Whitley and Rev. Gary Cox will officiate. Mrs Barbee was born July 31, 1928 in Stanly County to the late Eugene and Essie Hinson Burris. She was a graduate of Ridgecrest High School and a retiree of Stanly Knitting Mills and was of the Baptist Faith. She is survived by her son Reed Barbee and wife Michelle of Oakboro, daughter Rhonda Cilento of Asheville, daughter-in-law Patsy Barbee of Oakboro. Seven grandchildren, Brett Barbee, Amber Lowry (John), Lori Elliott (Daniel), Tommy Gregory, Josh Gregory (Somer),Heather Huneycutt (Heath) and Dylan Gregory. Ten great-grandchildren and one great-great grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence John Barbee, her son, Bernard John Barbee, her granddaughter, Lisa Cilento, brothers, Julius, Grant and Carl Burris, sisters, Sarah Davis, Margaret Curlee and Merene Burris. The family wishes to express their special thanks to Mrs Barbee's home caregivers Tonya and Suzanne and Hospice of Union for their loving care. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Union, 700 W. Robert Eugene Oler, age 86 of Union City, Indiana, residing in Arizona, passed away Tuesday November 14, 2023 unexpectedly at his residence. He was born December 8, 1936 in Union City, Indiana and was the son of the late Ralph L. and Dorval L. (Hampton) Oler. Robert worked for Coca Cola in Union City, Ohio and retired from Strongs News Agency in Phoenix, Arizona. He was a devoted husband and father raising five children alongside the love of his life Thelma. Robert is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Greg and Denise Oler of Arizona; daughter Linda Lou Wetzel of Arizona; and daughter Trudy (Wetzel) Eastland of Ohio; three grandchildren Mitchel Oler, Brian Stephen and Emily Nichols along with numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sisters JoAnn Conners of Ohio and Barbara Ellenberger of Indiana. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife Thelma (Westfall) Oler; daughter Cathy (Oler) Reveles; son Robert Wetzel and grandson Eric Stephen. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday December 5, 2023 in the Zechar Bailey Funeral Home Greenville, Ohio with Pastor Todd Reish officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until time of the services in the funeral home. Ian Robert Johnson, 31, of Union City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023. He was born January 14, 1992, in Greenville, to William E. Johnson and Tabatha L. (Hagie) Johnson. He is survived by his father William of Versailles; mother Tabatha of Covington; his children, Jerico Johnson, Chance Seats, Lillian Johnson, Addyson Johnson and Brooklyn Johnson; his longtime girlfriend Courtney Stephens of Union City, Ind. ; siblings Jeremiah, Zachary, Jareth and Abby Johnson; and his grandmothers, Melanie Hess and Patricia Maxwell. Ian was a graduate of Bradford High School and worked at Francis Manufacturing in Russia. He loved the outdoors, hiking, and riding go-karts. Susan Blalock Hatley 67 of Oakboro died Sunday Evening, September 4, 2022 at Hospice of Union in Monroe. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at Freedom Baptist Church, Locust. Rev. Wally Gilmer will officiate and interment will follow in the church cemetery. She was a 1973 graduate of South Stanly High School and recieved her degree in education from Appalachian State University. She was a retired elementary school teacher with Stanly County Schools having taught at Oakboro, Aquadale and Locust Elementary Schools. She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church. Phyllis M. Jones, 99, formerly of Union City, Indiana, passed away early Monday evening, July 11, 2022, at Parkvue Healthcare Center in Sandusky. Phyllis was born October 17, 1922, in Sandusky, OH, to the late Charles and Sadie (Schmidt) Klepper. Phyllis grew up as a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ and graduated from Sandusky High School. She was an amazing homemaker who was completely devoted to her family. Phyllis was a wonderful cook, baker, and gardener. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bridge, golf, and being social. She was also a huge Purdue University fan and would watch any sport for the opportunity to cheer on her Boilermakers. Phyllis had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed life to the fullest. Phyllis is survived by her grandson, Ryan Jones of Indiana; nephews, Frank (Nancy) Bahnsen of Sandusky, Ronald (Becky) Klepper of Utah, and Thomas (Laura) Klepper of Huron; nieces, Sharron (Roger) Robinson of Huron, Georgia (Robert) Simpson of Michigan, and Kathy (Lynn) Sartor of Sandusky; godson, Jeffery (Joy) Bahnsen, and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, and other loving relatives. Harvey retired from the City of Washington Sanitation Department. He attended Union Community Church, served on Civil Defense, and spent 15 years with the Union Volunteer Fire Department.
