Luella Anderson, (93 ), of La Porte, Indiana passed away Monday, March 4, 2024. Luella was born at Holy Family Hospital on April 28, 1930 to Raymond and Eulalia (Foldenauer) Anderson. Luella was a lifelong resident of La Porte. She graduated from St. Joseph grade school and La Porte High School class of 1948. She was employed by La Porte Community Schools, Allis Chalmers Sales Branch, Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Universal Woodcrafters and retired from GTE in 1989 with 17 years of service as a service and repair representative. Luella stayed active after retirement. She was a member of Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church. She volunteered or was a member of several organizations including; La Porte County Historical Society, AARP, St. Joseph Rosary Sodality, La Porte Hospital Health Porte Auxiliary and Foundation, Meals on Wheels, La Porte Hospital, and VNA Flu-Clinics. She was a Norte Dame Fan. Luella is survived by several cousins and special friends. Her cousin, Judy; and her special friends, Roger and Sue with mention. She was preceded in death by her parents; her best friend and companion, James Supanik; and cats, Mittens, Andy and Maisie. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2024 at Frank L. Keszei Funeral Home, Essling Chapel, 1117 Indiana Avenue, La Porte, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday March 7, 2024 at Holy Family Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, 109 C Street, La Porte, Indiana following the visitation. Bernadette Sue Nizinski, 94, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, March 1, 2024. Bernadette was born in Terre Haute, IN, on December 23, 1929 to Edward and Marie Fischer. In 1948, she married L. Gene Landes who preceded her in death. In Terre Haute in 1975, Bernadette married her second husband, Norbert Nizinski who also preceded her in death. Surviving are her children, Felicia Dee Landes of Bonnerdale, Arkansas, Durenda (Mark) Lovas of Beaufort, South Carolina, Letitia (George) Steinfels of Jupiter, Florida, Brian (Kelly) Landes of Auburndale, Florida, and Gregg A. (Vicky) Landes of La Porte; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Amy Landes Lieberman; and grandson, Gregg Landes, Jr. Bernadette was an entrepreneur who managed Sales & Catering at McCormick Place International Trade Center in Chicago. She was a professional roller skater and Master gardener. She loved her cars and animals. Bernadette was an avid fisherman, a carpenter creating woodworking sculptures, and an artist creating porcelain sculptures as well. Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center with Pastor Bob Vale officiating. A time of visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of service on Sunday at the funeral home. Ronald W. Scherer, 88, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Millers Health and Rehab in La Porte. Ronald was born in La Porte, Indiana on January 17, 1936 to Wilbur and Pearl Scherer. On January 23, 1954 in La Porte, IN, he married Joan Elaine Luther who preceded him on December 20, 2020. Surviving are his 3 sons, Terry (Renee) Scherer, Greg M. Scherer and Jeff Scherer, all of La Porte; 6 grandchildren, Noelle Anderson, Brittany, Andrew, Nicole, Kathryn and Curtis Scherer; 4 great-grandchildren, Daven, Tatum, Willow and Faith Anderson; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Curtis Scherer; and grandson, David Matthew Scherer. Ronald worked as a civil engineer at Midwest Steel in Portage, Indiana. He was an usher and the chairman of the board of elders at St. John’s Lutheran Church. Ronald enjoyed fishing, golfing, camping, and family get-togethers. He was very active and busy with his family and friends. Ronald was the assistant coach for Little League, was active in Boy Scouts, and pitched fast pitch softball for the Lucky Cigars. Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. Service dates are pending.

Charles is survived by his daughter Cherie (Robert) Kielba; granddaughter Nicole; siblings James Battaglia and Thomas (Jeanne) Battaglia; good friend Matthew; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Donald Battaglia and Robert Battaglia; former spouse Helen; sister-in-law Charlene; and good friend Pat. Charles loved spending time with his family, friends, and his pet dogs. He enjoyed fishing, dancing, music, art, cooking, cars, family vacations, and going to the casino. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 10am-12pm with service following at 12pm at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner Street, Des Plaines, IL 60016. Edward Clyde Nilson, 72, of Union Mills, Indiana, passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at VNA Hospice Center. Edward was born in La Porte, IN, on May 1, 1951, to Edward Maux and Winifred Dorothy Marie (Hazeltine) Nilson. On September 23, 1972 in La Porte, IN, he married Pamela Holloway, who survives. Also surviving are his 2 children, Heather (Ken) Lorraine Nix of La Porte and Leif Edward Nilson of Union Mills; 2 grandsons, Kyle Edward Nix of Mishawaka and Conner Wesley Nix of La Porte, and a sister, Winifred Landis of Lafayette; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Warren and Wesley Nilson; and sister, Julieanne Nilson. From September 1969 to January 1972, Edward proudly served in the United States Army. He served in Korea and Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne. Edward was a Millwright for over 30 years, where he served as past president and treasurer for Local 1043. He was actively involved in the National Muzzle Loaders Rifle Association and served as president and treasurer with the Menominee Muzzle Loaders. Edward enjoyed camping, canoeing, and portraying a pirate in living history reenactments. He was an avid Risk and Chess player, as well as an avid outdoorsman. Edward was a past Eagle Scout and member of the Order of the Arrow. Cremation has taken place with Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center, La Porte. A Celebration of Life Memorial Gathering will be held from 1 - 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024 at Cutler Funeral Home and Cremation Center. He was born February 13, 1936 in Chicago IL, to the late Felix and Pearl (Kosakowski) Dynowski. On May 18, 1957 in Michigan City, IN he married Beverly Volstorf who preceded him on February 25, 2021. Surviving are his daughter, Theresa (Rick Richmond) Pagos of Michigan City, IN; two grandchildren, Lindsey (Justin) Browning of Michigan City, IN and Michael Pagos of Indianapolis, IN; and a great-grandchild, Beau Browning. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Francis Dynowski; sister, Phyllis Januszewski; and nephew, Jerry Januszewski. Bill had worked for 10 years at Republic Steel and then went to work at Bethlehem Steel where he retired after 33 years. He was a member of the Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, life member of the St. Joseph Young Men's Society and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels.
