Ronald Eugene "Ronnie" Willie, 74, of Garber, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, October 5, 2023, at the Iowa City VA Medical Center in Iowa City He was born on September 2, 1949, in Elkader, the son of Delores Ralph "Dutch" and Edna Katherine (Schlee) Willie Ronnie was raised and educated in the Elkader area and was a graduate of Elkader High School Ronnie served honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Ronnie grew up in the family band with his brothers, dad, and stepdad On May 22, 1971, Ronnie was united in marriage to Joyce Ann Bond in Colesburg Two daughters, Tammy and Tonya, were born to this union The family resided in Garber The couple operated the Anchor Inn in Garber until purchasing JR Willie's in Colesburg They owned and operated JR Willie's for nearly 40 years Ronnie served as a Clayton County Supervisor Ronnie was a member of Chapter 39-3 Combat Veterans and the Northeast Iowa Vietnam Veterans He was president and very active in the Elkport Garber Community Club Ronnie was also a former fireman in both Garber and Colesburg He was a member of the Colesburg Commercial Club and annual announcer of the Colesburg 4th of July parade and festivities and the 2020 Grand Marshall He had been a sponsor of several pool teams, ball teams, and was very active in many activities in the area Ronnie was a member of St John's Congregational Church in Garber He enjoyed annual trips with his family and friends Ronnie loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them Survivors include his two daughters, Tammy (Randy Loesche) Funk of Petersburg and Tonya (Phil) Wille of Garnavillo; eight grandchildren, Kayla (Greg) Reimer, Kyle (Lexi) Funk, Lexi (Mike) Allen, T J (Chloe Freeman) Wille, Jayce (Destiny Kemp) Wille, Alyssa Wille, Brooke (Brandon Thiese) Amling, and Mason Amling; three great-grandchildren, Kalyssa, Kenzie, and Kadence Reimer; special friend, Dixie Willman; his siblings, Betty Deal of West Union, Gary (Pam) Willie of Elkader, Lowell (Dottie) Willie of St Olaf, and Arthur (Julie) Willie of Millville; brothers-and sisters-in-laws, Brian (Stephanie) Cornwell of Greeley, Alta (Terry) Kloser of Greeley, and Linda Bond of Vinton; and numerous nieces and nephews Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Willie in 2003; his brother, Duane (Caroline) Willie; parents-in-law, Helen and Clair "Corny" Cornwell; and brothers-in-law, Clyde Deal and John Bond

Bruce Glen Payne, 61, of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023, at his home. He was born on March 31, 1962, in Manchester, the son of F. H. and Naomi (Gissel) Payne. He was raised and educated in the Colesburg area and was a 1980 graduate of Edgewood-Colesburg High School. Bruce worked as a laborer/ operator for Tschiggfrie Construction for many years, retiring in 2022. He was a member of Local #659 of the Laborers International Union of North America and International Union of Operators and Engineers #234 in Dubuque. Bruce loved to fish and hunt. He also enjoyed playing golf. Bruce was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Miami Dolphins fan. Bruce loved his nieces and nephews very much and always enjoyed spending time with them. Survivors include five siblings, Clifford (Carmen) Payne of Edgewood, Terry Payne, Greg Payne, Audrey Payne, and Dennis (Tanya) Payne, all of Colesburg; and several nieces and nephews. James "Jim" M. Torson, 85 of Colesburg, Iowa passed away June 26, 2023, at Home surrounded by his loved ones. Visitation will be held from 2 - 8 p. m. on Friday, June 30, 2023, at St. Patrick's Parish Center. Visitation will continue at 9 - 10 a. m. prior to funeral mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Colesburg with burial in the church cemetery. Rev. John Haugen will officiate. Wanda Keck

Age - 95

Wanda June (Morley) Keck, 95, of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 24, 2023, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, surrounded by her family. She was born on June 16, 1927, on a farm in the Elkport/Garber area, the daughter of Frank and Ocie (Hansel) Morley. Her early years were spent on farms near Elkport/Garber and Osterdock until the family moved to their farm near Wood Center around 1940. Wanda attended country school through the 8th grade, and high school in Edgewood and then Colesburg, graduating in 1944. She received her teaching certificate from the Iowa State Normal School in Cedar Falls and taught in country schools. On November 12, 1947, Wanda was united in marriage to Warren "Buck" Keck at the Methodist parsonage in Manchester. Three daughters, Anne, Jane, and Judy, were blessed to this union. The couple farmed northwest of Colesburg for 22 years until moving to Colesburg in 1969. At the age of 40, Wanda returned to college and in 1972 received a degree in elementary education from Upper Iowa University. She taught at Edgewood-Colesburg Elementary School for 20 years retiring in 1989. In 2008, Wanda and Buck moved to an independent living apartment at the Gernand Center in Strawberry Point. In December 2014, Wanda moved into the nursing home. Wanda was a 4-H leader and made sure her daughters knew how to cook, bake, and sew. She helped in the development of the Colesburg Public Library. Wanda enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, knitting, and crocheting. She and Buck traveled many miles with their camper making it into Alaska and Mexico. The couple also traveled to Brazil to visit their Brazilian daughter. They also enjoyed weekend camping especially with their camping groups. Wanda was a longtime member of the Colesburg Methodist Church. She was also member of the Rebekah Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved her family and cherished spending time with them. Survivors include her three daughters, Anne (Art) Beyer of Strawberry Point, Jane (Neil) Sherman of Edgewood, and Judy (Lonnie) Latteyer of Manchester; Brazilian daughter, Geni Noceti; grandchildren, Kyle (Nancy) Beyer, Andrew (Miranda) Beyer, Adam (Lindsey) Sherman, Travis (Briony Maxwell) Sherman, Fernanda Villas Boas, Jeremy (Lauri) Latteyer, and Teresa (Steve) Unash; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Aidan, Olivia, Ella, Daniel, Paula, Alex, Emily, Amber, Jason, and Joshua; one brother, Cephas "Cy" (Joanne) Morley of Chatfield, Minnesota; and sister-in-law, Lois Walters of Colesburg. Irene Anna VonTalge, 98, of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at her home. She was born on September 26, 1924, in Clayton County, the daughter of George and Laura (Steinfadt) Blaker. Irene attended school in the Colesburg area and was a 1942 graduate of Colesburg High School. She received her normal training certificate. Irene taught country school in the Osterdock area. On October 3, 1947, Irene was united in marriage to Keith VonTalge. Five children were born to this union. Irene was a homemaker and also helped out on the farm. She taught Sunday School and was a 4-H leader. Irene loved to bake and enjoyed quilting. Survivors include her three children, Kevin VonTalge of Colesburg, Carla VonTalge of Colesburg, and Corliss (Randy) Brookhiser of Ottumwa; four grandchildren, Minda (Matthew) Pigman of Ames, Jennifer (Victor) Wilson of Johnstown, Colorado, Olivia (Matthew) Bennett of Ottumwa, and Lt. Colonel Joshua (Kathy) Brookhiser of Baker, Florida; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Linford Kinyon

Linford Donald Kinyon, 95, of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Asbury. He was born on October 28, 1927, near Millville, the son of Randall and Nettie (Torrey) Kinyon. Linford received his education at Millville Country School, Guttenberg School, and graduated from Colesburg High School in 1945. He enlisted into the United States Navy and served honorably for two years. After his discharge, Linford attended Iowa State College. On April 24, 1950, Linford was united in marriage to Marilyn Peck in Manchester. Six children were born to this union. The couple farmed together for many years in the Colesburg area. Linford was a longtime member of the Colesburg United Methodist Church where he served on the administrative board and was a leader of the Methodist Men's Group. He was a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Colesburg American Legion. Linford also drove a school bus for 10 years while farming. Linford served on the Delaware County ASCS Committee, Delaware County FHA Board, and was a 4-H leader for many years. After retiring from farming, he worked as an adjuster for New Vienna Mutual Insurance. Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Marilyn Kinyon of Edgewood; five children, Jacqueline (Arthur) Johnson of Edgewood, Judith (David) Lohman of Ramona, California, Joy (Ann) Kinyon of Heyburn, Idaho, Jana (Hank Sangster) Kinyon of Peosta, and Jeffrey (Vicki) Kinyon of Martinsville, Illinois; daughter-in-law, Judy Kinyon of Montrose, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Adrian Johnson, Kristen (Scott) Arthur, Joshua Lohman, Christopher (Kyrin) Lohman, Jacob (Danielle) Lohman, Kyle Kinyon, and Conner Kinyon; five great-grandchildren, Dayce, Sienna, and Mila Arthur, and Red and Jason Lohman; two step grandchildren, Cody (Kelly) Butler and Ryan (Julia) Butler; one step great-grandson, Kaison Butler; two sisters-in-law, Jean Zittergruen of Edgewood and Sandra (Marvin) Rossow of Manchester. Merlin Jr. Hoisington, 84, of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2022, at the Good Neighbor Society in Manchester. He was born on March 5, 1938, in Iowa City, the son of Amos and Bessy (Davis) Hoisington. Merlin was raised in the area and attended school in Colesburg. On May 25, 1963, Merlin was united in marriage to Shirley Ann Billmeyer in Edgewood. Two sons were born to this union. Merlin worked as a logger with Livingston Lumber. When Merlin wasn't out working hard to provide for his family or caring for his yard or the neighbors, you could find him in the nearest fishing hole. Everyone who knew Merlin, knew that there would be some story about how big the fish was and that he caught his limit every time. Thank goodness the neighbors liked to eat fish, so he could keep fishing. At 84 years old he still enjoyed joining his sons, nephews, cousins, and friends in the timber to get that big buck (even if it meant he really shot a tree branch and missed the deer!) Only the hunting group knew the truth about that big buck! When he wasn't hunting or fishing, Merlin loved to be with family. Playing endless games of euchre, cookouts and campfires, and getting bleacher butt from endless football games and wrestling meets. Mary Waters

Age - 83

Mary Beverly Brian Waters, 83, of Colesburg, passed peacefully into the hands of Jesus, on Thursday, June 30, 2022. Thus, ended her 49-year struggle with Multiple Sclerosis, and 6-year struggle with Alzheimer's. Beverly was a life-long resident of Colesburg, KY, the town she was born in. She was a talented seamstress, who made more than 60 hand-stitched quilts, a talent she lovingly learned from her mother, Generose. Her other talents included knitting, crocheting, making decorative pillows, stuffed animals, and dolls. She loved caring for her porch hummingbirds, parakeets, and stray cats. Her deep and unconditional love of family and friends gave comfort to all who knew her. She exuded love in its purest form, and her smile would light up a room. She had a deep love for her Catholic faith and shared a very close relationship with Mother Mary, who held her hand through many hard times. Beverly was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Johnny Edward Waters, her parents Louis "Hobbie" and Generose Brown Brian, brothers Ronnie and Phillip Brian, and a sister Peggy Brian (Boone). Survivors include her brothers, Bobby Brian (Marcella) of Lebanon Junction, Jimmy Brian, and Steve Brian (Dianna) of Louisville. Three children, Patsy Jones (Darrell) and Don "Donnie" Waters (Joy), of Cecilia, and Genine Nichols (Denny), of Big Clifty, and a host of nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Craig Ash (Mandy), of Cecilia; Jeremy Ash (Jessica), of Hodgenville; Danielle Ash Dunaway (Shawn), of Elizabethtown, Jason Waters (Elizabeth), of Elizabethtown; and Amanda Waters Nugent (Joe), of Versailles. Donna Helen Holthaus, 88, of Colesburg, Iowa, got her wings and went to walk with the angels on Saturday, June 4, 2022. She was born on April 19, 1934, in Iowa, the daughter of Harold and Helen (Harbaugh) Hansel. She was raised in the Clayton and Delaware county area and was a 1953 graduate of Greeley High School. On March 5, 1955, Donna was united in marriage to the love of her life, Arnold Holthaus. Five children were born to this union, Steve, Cathy, Joe, Susan, and Linda. Donna was a hard-working, proud farmer. She was truly an animal lover. She would say, "You can tell the size of a person's heart by how they treat animals. " Donna was a strong, loving, and a good woman. She was loved and will be missed by many. Janice Eileen Klaus, 85, of Colesburg, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, April 13, 2022. She was born on September 9, 1936, in Manchester, the daughter of Loren and Sarah (Shaw) Herman. Janice was raised and educated in Earlville until she moved to Colesburg. She was a graduate of Colesburg High School. After graduation, Janice worked as a telephone operator where she met her future husband, Evert. On October 14, 1956, Janice was united in marriage to Evert Klaus at the Zion Methodist Church in rural Colesburg. Three children were born to this union. Janice worked as the head cook at the Edgewood-Colesburg Elementary School for over 30 years. She was a 4-H Leader of the Colony Co-Workers. For many years, Janice helped Evert with their insurance business. She was Evert's loving caregiver throughout their marriage. Janice was a longtime faithful member of Zion Methodist Church in rural Colesburg, where she was a Sunday school teacher, and later attended Colesburg United Methodist Church. She enjoyed her monthly lunch out with some of her classmates. Janice was a former member of the Colesburg Rebeka Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. She liked playing cards and dominoes and doing word searches. Janice enjoyed her Saturday afternoon car rides with her daughter and son-in-law. She liked dancing and listening to polka music, especially Mollie B. and Leo Greco. Janice loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with them. Survivors include her three children, Tom (Sandy) Klaus of Colesburg, Gayle (Gary) Kennedy of Cedar Rapids, and Amy Klaus of Plymouth, Minnesota; two grandsons, Eric (Emily) Klaus and Ben (Sophie) Klaus; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Vincent (Betty) Herman of Earlville and Larry Herman of Cedar Rapids; one sister, Paulette (John) Mueller of Dubuque; a sister-in-law, Carol Herman of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.
