Huff and Pearl Huff, Bette grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas. She attended Midwestern Junior College and the University of Texas. Bette was a member of the Junior League of Tyler, the Tyler Junior Garden Club, the Gertrude Windsor Garden Club, and a board member of the Tyler Museum of Art. Her love of gardening was evident in her beautifully maintained garden that is listed in the Garden Club of America Collection in the Archives of American Gardens at the Smithsonian Institution as the "Royal Tulip Garden". She graciously opened her backyard to anyone requesting photographs and an enlarged picture of her garden was displayed for many years in the dining room of McAlister's Deli Restaurant. While Bette loved gardening and being active in her community, her true passion was sharing her faith in Jesus Christ. For over thirty years she taught Sunday School at Marvin Methodist Church. She believed strongly in the power of prayer and she met weekly with the Marvin Prayer Warriors to pray for the needs of their congregation. She made certain that our family Christmas celebrations focussed on the importance of God's son Jesus, voluntarily taking on flesh, laying down his life to pay the price for our sin, so that we may rise from the dead as He did and enjoy eternity with Him.
