Ronald Peter Palmersheim, 89, of Greeley, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2023, surrounded by loved ones, at his home in Greeley. Ron was born on March 9, 1934, in Elma, Iowa, the son of Mathias Peter and Grace (Hunemiller) Palmersheim. Ron was raised in the Elma area and graduated from Immaculate Conception High School at Elma in 1952. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1954 and was honorably discharged in 1956. On August 21, 1956, Ron was united in marriage to Helen Franzen at St. Lucas. Eight children were born to this union. Ron was the owner operator of Palmersheim Implement until his retirement in 2000. He then operated Grandpa's Sawdust Shop in his retirement years. Ron was on the Greeley City Council and worked very hard to get water and sewer in Greeley. He was also a member of the Delaware County Extension Council and he co-sponsored the Greeley All Star Softball Team. Ron enjoyed spending time on online tractor forums and watching western movies. In Ron's later years he enjoyed gardening, traveling, and riding the golf cart with Helen. Ron always enjoyed spending time with his extended family. He was a man of strong faith, a gentle giant, who loved his family especially his wife, Helen. Survivors include his wife, Helen Palmersheim of Greeley; his seven children, Gene (Margaret) Palmersheim of Greeley, Karen (Scot) Michelson of Fayette, Kevin (Paula) Palmersheim of Delaware, Mark (Debra) Palmersheim of Ridgeway, Mike (Nancy Walton) of Anamosa, Jon (Deanna) Palmersheim of Ankeny, and Chris (Jenn) Palmersheim of Edgewood; 32 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren with three on the way; daughter-in-law, Karen Palmersheim of Earlville; two sisters, Mary Louise (Paul) Reuter of Waterloo and Rita Rosauer of Gilbertville. Ron was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Randy Palmersheim; grandson, Jason Walton; siblings, Shirley (Paul) Chihak, Donna (Vernon) Williams, and Darold Palmersheim in infancy; and brother-in-law, Don Rosauer.
