Fraser, MI

Ronald Learst, 72, of Fraser, Michigan passed away on September 8, 2023, just one day before his 73rd birthday. Ronald was born on Sept 9, 1950 to Floyd and Phillis Learst in Detroit, MI. After Ron graduated from Hazel Park High School in 1968, he went on to join the United States Navy. After serving his country in the Vietnam War, Ron began working at General Motors where he worked for 35 years. After retirement, Ron could be found playing with his grandchildren, traveling with his wife Debbie, and riding his bicycle around town. When he wasn't doing these things, he was kibitzing with neighbors, cracking jokes, and spending time in fellowship with friends. Ron will always be remembered as a guy who knew when to be serious, but never forgot to be silly. "Uncle Ronny" was always the favorite guest at family parties. He found joy in laughing and making others laugh. Ron had a love for the Lord, and he was very active with the "Super Seniors" at Faith Baptist Church. Ron spent Fridays at the church where he was tasked with folding bulletins, but he certainly spent more time talking than folding. At home, Ron would happily tackle any project his wife desired - remodeling, painting, and gardening to name a few. Ron was predeceased by his mother, father, and sister Diane Standler. He is survived by his dear wife Debbie, and his 4 children, Lisa Learst, Michelle (Eli) Edwards, Bryan (Sarah) Learst, and Nicole (Robert) Cook, and his 5 grandchildren, Marcus, Ellen, Dominic, Norah, and Shelby. He also leaves behind his big brother Richard (Ruth) Learst, and his baby sister Sandy Learst as well as 13 nieces and nephews, and 19 great nieces and nephews. Memorial visitation will be held at A. H. Peters in Warren, MI on Sunday, September 17th from 2 until 6 PM, with a Memorial Service for Ron being held at Faith Baptist Church in Clinton Twp, MI on Monday, September 18th at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Compassion International.
