Earlier this year Jennifer wrote, in her own words, the following obituary: Jennifer Gayle Hines passed peacefully from her earthly home, to her heavenly home on the evening of Saturday, November 18, 2023. Earlier this year she wrote in her own words, the following obituary: I was born in Cincinnati, OH on December 18,1961 at 3:50 am. My mom says that when they brought me to her, my eyes were open and I had a determined frown on my face that said, "I'm in charge now. " At the young age of 4, my family moved to where I consider my hometown, Milwaukee, WI. I was born right into church with my dad as pastor and my mom, church musician. Church was my life from the beginning. As a "PK" (pastor 's kid) of course I was expected to participate in the many aspects of church life. The thing is, I loved it! I cherished my church life, it was the most important part of my life. Choirs, drama, youth group, even ushering are all what made me, me. When I left home for college, I performed with two amazing Anderson College singing groups: Fruit of the Spirit and Creative Expressions of Hope. But the best thing about going to college when and where I did, was that God had the husband He made just for me, right then and there. I met and fell in love with Milton, my beloved husband of 41+ years. Our love story over the years has been beautiful, and yet will go on forever. My beloved and I eventually moved to his hometown, Washington DC. What a blessing to my life was my time at 3rd Street Church of God. Again, I participated in many aspects of church life: music ministry, drama ministry, usher board, and church council. I was beyond blessed to be asked by Steve Key to sing songs he was writing. This led to over 30 years of the most soul gratifying return of my gift to God as we sang throughout this city and even through Europe. God also let me return my gift of teaching to him as I began my over 30 year ministry with the children of Unique Learning Center. This allowed me to share the good news that Jesus loves them. I was so grateful that I could teach reading and writing and arithmetic and talk about the goodness of God! God has been so good to me! I'm so happy to be with Him now, but I'm sad to leave you. Most especially. . . my beloved soul mate, the one God made for me, my husband Milton. To my first best friend, my sister Julia Saffold and my beloved "baby" brother, Jon Johnson. To my nephews and precious nieces (PN's): Torin Ferbish, Dr. Jasmine Zapata, Jasmyn Ferbish (whose gift of caring for me knew no bounds. ) To Jordan Ferbish, Julia Hines, Samuel Hines, Miguel "MJ" Zapata, Aameira Zapata, Lillyana Zapata and Miguel "Aace" Zapata. Also to my in-laws who are "for real" family: Delmarie Hines, Charmaine and Jerome Ferbish, Melvin Saffold, David and Crystal Hines. To my god daughters, Savannah Brooks and Zamaya Taylor. My god-grandbaby Stephen "peanut" Brooks. Also my god sister Diarra Waller. To my many friends and cousins including especially, special cousin Valerie Shaw and my special friend Robert Taylor. I love you all dearly and look forward to having you join me in heaven one day. I've joined over here, on the other side, many loved ones including my parents Rev. Dr. Sandy Johnson and Roylene Johnson; also my beloved nephew, Aaron Battle. I now get to join this great cloud of witnesses cheering you all on! Keep trusting God and do not be afraid. He has promised to never leave you and I know it's true! Jennifer . To to the family or in memory of Jennifer G. Hines, pleaseShow more
