Ronald Leo Grasse, Sr. , 63, a resident of Elephant Butte, NM, died on Tuesday, October 3, 2023. He was born on November 20, 1959, in Riverside, CA to Charles R. and Ruby Patricia (Pate) Grasse. Ronald was a proud veteran of the U. S. Army. He was a jack of all trades- showing his talents in welding, construction and motor building, to name a few. Ronald was most happy outdoors, where he could collect rocks and fish. Survivors include his father, Charles R. Grasse; children - Ronald L. Grasse, Jr. (Marissa) and Cassandra L. Masemore (Ben); grandchildren - Jesse, Fiona, Aubrie, Kaylie, Isaiah, Ava, Mateo, and Tristan; and siblings - Richard Grasse (Bualee), Jeri Winkles (Mark) and Janice Grasse. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Patricia Grasse, and uncle, Leo Grasse. A Visitation will be held for family and friends on Friday, October 6, 2023 from 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM at Kirikos Family Funeral Home. Ronald will then be laid to rest in Cortez, CO.

Joanne Ursula Lancaster died peacefully on November 21, 2023 in Elephant Butte, New Mexico. She was born in Cheboygan, Michigan on December 26, 1938 to John Edward Kasprzak and Myrtle Mae Elliott Kasprzak, both of whom are deceased. She is predeceased by her brother, John "Jack" Kasprzak Jr. She has three surviving siblings, Richard "Dick" Kasprzak (Nyoka), Fern Hency (Paul), Bill Kasprzak (Denise), and Thomas Kasprzak (Raven). Joanne is predeceased by her first husband, Robert Lee Sones, with whom she has four children who survive: Lee Ann Sones, Susan Lynn Corrado (Joseph), Robert Lee Sones, Jr. (Wendy), and Mary Jo Sones. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Michael Ross Pelton, Stephen Pelton, and Rachel Corrado (Rohan Francis), and a great-grandchild, Noah Avery Pelton. Joanne is also predeceased by her second husband, Hershel J. Lancaster, with whom she lived in Arkansas. She was a loving stepmother to his children, Donny Lancaster, Diana Lancaster, and Dale Lancaster, and enjoyed the happy times she spent with them, their children and their grandchildren. She worked in retail sales for many years. She managed Hallmark stores in Indiana, and after moving to Arkansas, was part owner and manager of a hardware store, and was involved in managing rental properties. In her later years she moved to Dayton, Ohio to assist her daughter, Mary. Joanne loved animals, and over the years had many animal companions, including at one point a rescued squirrel named Roscoe, who slept in a Christmas stocking. She was an avid reader and gardener. She was a foster parent who kept contact with her foster children well into their adult years as a mentor and supporter. She is remembered by friends and loved ones as having a sharp mind and a great sense of humor. When she knew she was nearing the end of her life, she was invited to spend her remaining time in New Mexico with her son, Bob, and daughter-in-law, Wendy. At the end she was surrounded by their love and comfort, and the knowledge that her little dog, Zee Zee, will be lovingly cared for by them. Joanne requested that there be no service after her passing. Those who loved her will honor her in their memories, and her ashes will be scattered in New Mexico with those of her deceased dog, Buddy. Cindy Asher, 69, of Elephant Butte, NM passed away November 14, 2023 with her husband, both sons, daughter-in-law, and three granddaughters at her side. The third of six children, Cindy was born in Monterey, CA on December 3, 1953. In 1977, Cindy moved to Albuquerque, NM, where she met Douglas Asher. The two were married on October 25, 1985. The couple lived in Albuquerque for 31 years and raised two children, David and Steven. The family was actively involved in Sangre de Cristo Catholic Church both sons as altar servers. Cindy and Doug taught church classes for over 26 years. They began teaching First Communion classes at Sangre de Cristo and later at John XXIII Catholic Church. They moved to Elephant Butte in 2016 and continued to teach at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. After the move, Cindy and Douglas were parishioners and volunteers at Our Lady of Perpetual Help. Cindy's life was defined by service to God, her family, and her community and she could not have been a better reflection of the namesake of their new church. She also volunteered at the local NM Veterans Home and Truth or Consequences Senior Center. She was never still and spent any spare minute caring for family, volunteering for her church or community, or helping friends. She rarely took time for herself and instead took pleasure from helping those around her. Cindy very much enjoyed visiting and being visited by her three granddaughters and there was rarely a single day when one of them didn't call or FaceTime her to talk about their day or ask for help on homework. The connection between her and the girls was unbelievable, and they'll remember her unconditional love for the rest of their lives. Cindy is survived by her husband Douglas Asher; children: Steven Asher, David Asher and wife Lacey; three grandchildren: Christine Asher, Lily Asher, and Evelyn Asher. She is also survived by her siblings: Lucy Flores, Frank Favaloro, Joseph Favaloro, Terry Hodges and husband Hal, and Jimmy Favaloro and wife Leilani. Services will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (515 N Date St, Truth or Consequences, NM 87901) starting with a Rosary on Sunday, November 26, 2023 at 5:00 PM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Frances T. "Frankie" Shawver, 90, a longtime resident of Elephant Butte, NM passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 6, 2023 in Las Cruces, NM. Frankie was born in Rainelle, WV to Luchon Johnny Tignor and Lottie Irene Lockhart on October 2, 1932. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Frankie was a very hardworking and dedicated person, always keeping her family organized and well put together. She worked many jobs throughout her life, but she was most proud of the work she did at home. She and her husband retired to Elephant Butte, NM in the mid-1990s. Frankie loved to sew, quilt, read, do puzzles, and collect Angels. She had a great sense of adventure and didn't let anything stop her when she set her mind to it! Though she faced many obstacles in life, she was even a colon cancer survivor, she always kept her faith in God. She was a faithful member of the Church at the Butte, where she enjoyed singing in the choir, before she lost her hearing and could no longer do so. Frankie is survived by her daughters- Darcena Armstrong and her husband, James, and April Kreis and her husband, Johnny; granddaughters- Tara Stine (Jason), Monica Clayton (Shawn), and Malini Fuangvuthi (Eric Hall); great grandson- Lucas Clayton; and brother Gene Tignor of Rainelle, WV. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Richard W. Shawver, who died August 1, 2006. Services will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023, at the Church at the Butte (516 NM-195, Elephant Butte, NM 87935) starting with a visitation at 1:00 P. M. , followed by a funeral service at 2:00 P. Gary Allen, 72, of Elephant Butte, New Mexico passed away on April 18, 2023. He is survived by his daughters, Dawn Ross (partner, Neil) of Los Lunas, NM and Shanna Platow (fiance, Craig) of Rio Rancho, NM along with his grandchildren, Joshua Ross (fiance, Shelbi) and Kerstyn Ross. He is preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Norma Jean Allen and sister, Sharon Pacheco. Gary Dean Allen was born October 24, 1950, in Carlsbad, NM, was raised in Ft. Sumner, attended NM State University, then entered the field of geotechnical engineering where he traveled the country as a consultant and project manager. He was bitten by the entrepreneurial bug in the 90's and discovered success in the oil fields of West Texas. His girls brought him back to NM where he found a new passion in repairing personal watercraft and he eventually relocated to Elephant Butte. In retirement, Gary enjoyed his time as a member of The Friends of the Butte and as a member, then officer, in the Rio Vaqueros Gun Club where his enthusiasm for firearms was nurtured. His best days were spent at the lake and ended with family and friends around a campfire, his dog and cherished companion, Smoke, by his side. Dad asked that in lieu of a formal service and flowers, contributions be made to a cause close to his heart. Darrel Reasner, 73, of Elephant Butte, NM died peacefully on Tuesday, December 20, 2022. Darrel was born in Indianapolis, IN to Raymond Reasner of New Palestine, IN and Nell Ann Covert Reasner of Clovis, NM. He proudly served in the Air National Guard for 6 years. Darrel worked for the National Resource Conservation Service in Socorro, NM for 27 years, before his retirement in 2004. After retirement, Darrel did private consulting for individual landowners as well as assisting various government agencies on land use and engineering contracts. This included many years of habitat restoration and conservation work in the Middle Rio Grande Valley, often alongside his family and good friends, who were always there to help. Darrel was a true outdoorsman, whether it be work or leisure, he preferred to be outside. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed camping, exploring in the mountains, fishing in the streams, and taking in all nature had to offer. He found his ultimate nirvana in the Magdalena Mountains, where he and his family built their cabin and spent as much time as they could. Many family vacations were at Elephant Butte Lake, fishing and enjoying various watersports- boating, tubing, and water skiing. Every summer, a new sandcastle was built and some of us were buried up to our necks in sand! After the loss of his son, Gary, in 1998, vacations at different National Parks became a tradition- Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, Glacier and several National Parks in Canada were some of the parks where the best memories were made. Darrel is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sheila Reasner; children: Randy John Reasner of Socorro, NM, and Corrie Dawn Reasner and fiance Nicasio Gonzalez of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren- Jordyn Reasner of Minneapolis, MN, Noah and Dawsyn Reasner of Socorro, NM; siblings- Jerry Reasner and wife Melba of Roman Forest, TX and Dennis Reasner and wife, Enid of Placitas, NM; as well as countless hunting buddies, friends, and other family members. Darrel was preceded in death by his parents: Raymond and Nell Reasner; son, Gary Reasner of Socorro, NM; Great-grandparents and numerous cousins. A Memorial Service celebrating Darrel's life will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Elephant Butte Lake RV Resort Event Center (402 Highway 195 Elephant Butte, NM 87935).
