"Ronald Chan, 86, passed away peacefully at home on September 6, 2023. Ron was born in Calexico, California on October 7, 1936. His parents, Frank and Mamie Chan, moved the family to San Diego shortly after his birth, where Ron called home for the rest of his life. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1953, then spent a year at the University of Southern California, before taking time off to serve in the Army. He eventually earned a business degree from San Diego State College (now San Diego State University). After graduation in 1962, Ron married Meijean Tom. He embarked on a career in the defense industry, working at Convair, General Dynamics, and Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical. While working full time and raising his family, he decided to pursue a career in law, enrolling at Western State University College of Law. He began his law career in 1977 at Teledyne, eventually going into private practice before retiring in 2000. Ron was a dedicated member of the Chinese Community Church of San Diego, serving countless hours as a church leader. He served in many capacities, including as church moderator and trustee as well as chairing a number of events such as the Centennial Celebration and Chinese New Year dinners. For many years, he enjoyed singing in the church choir. His love of music carried over from church into the community, as he sang with the Pacific Men's Choral. As if singing wasn't enough, as an adult, he learned how to play the guitar and piano. Other things that brought joy to Ron included food, social gatherings, and his sports teams. Often the orchestrator of social events, he shared his love of food by cooking for large groups of family and friends. He remained a lifelong sports fan, rooting on the USC Trojans, the SDSU Aztecs, and the San Diego Padres. Football season and golf season would also keep him glued to the TV. Ron is survived by his wife of 61 years, Meijean, daughters Suzanne (Steve), Andrea, Michelle (Huan) and grandchildren Kyle, Ryan, Samantha, and Sydney. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 21 at the Chinese Community Church, 4998 Via Valarta, San Diego, CA 92124 at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chinese Community Church https://www. cc-sd. org/give/. "
