Boykins - Rolo Turner Lassiter, Jr. passed away at home in Boykins on April 24, 2023. Born in Whitakers, NC, on September 20, 1931, he was the son of the late Lorelle Taylor Lassiter and Rolo Turner Lassiter. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, Eddie Lassiter and two sisters, Irene Ford and Ella Pearce. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Dorothy Edwards Lassiter, their children, Rolo T. Lassiter, III and his wife Pammy, Lisa Haver and her husband David, and Lil Hawthorne and her husband Johnny. He was a beloved "Gramps" to six grandchildren: Joey Lassiter and his wife Cassie; Dr. Brian Haver and his wife Maggie; Grant Haver and his wife Stephanie; Will Hawthorne and his wife Rachel; Ashton Hawthorne; and Ann Morgan Hawthorne. Four great-grandchildren will remember him fondly: Lily Marie Lassiter, Luka Stephen Lassiter, Lucien Turner Haver, and Henley Claire Hawthorne. He is also survived by the Edwards Family. A graduate of Boykins High School, R. T went on to attend N. C. State University before returning to Boykins to become president of White and Lassiter Timber Co. R. T. served as the Boykin's Lions Club president, Zone Chairman and State Awards Chairman, and, as a 70-year Mason, he served as both master and District Deputy. Additionally, R. T. served on the Boykins Town Council. Beyond this service to the community in and around Boykins, R. T. was also a veteran and a member of the American Legion. He was committed to serving not just his peers, but the younger generation as well: R. T. served as a Boy Scout leader for 30 years, receiving many awards including the Baptist for Scouting award, and he taught the youth Sunday School class at Boykins Baptist Church. As a further outpouring of his devoted faith and service to the Lord, he was a life deacon and choir member of Boykins Baptist, taught the Ladies Bible Class, and went on several mission trips with the church.
