CARENCRO ~ Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at a 2:00 p.m. Liturgy of the Word in Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel in Carencro for Mae Helen Guidry, age 94, the former Mae Helen Cormier, who passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 at her residence in Carencro.Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro. The Rev. Bill Melancon, pastor of St. Rita Catholic Church in Catahoula, will officiate at the services.Musical selections will be provided by Charlotte Jagneaux, accompanied by Phyllis Simar on the organ. The songs will be Amazing Grace, How Great Thou Art and Old Rugged Cross.Helen, affectionately known as Nanny, was a native of Lafayette and had been a resident of Carencro for the past 50 years. She began working for Slemco in 1957, where she retired after 40 years of service. She was a parishioner of St. Peter Catholic Church in Carencro and was incredibly devoted to her faith. She was known for her skills in the kitchen, both cooking and baking. Mae loved traveling with her husband in their motorhome and loved fishing.Survivors include one brother, Donald James Cormier, Sr. (Thelma) of Mire; one sister, Anna Lee Boss of Sunset; and two half-sisters, Alicia Courville (Tony) and Wilma Charlotte. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington will officiate at the services.Mr. Babineaux was born August 30, 1937 to the late Alcee Babineaux and the former Bernadette Hernandez in Cankton. He was a resident of Carencro for fifty years having been a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. A veteran of the military, Mr. Babineaux proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Era from 1956 to 1958.In 1965, Marcel and a few of his buddies opened Gulf South Printing & Specialties out of a garage apartment and upon their successes, expanded their business to Vermillion Street where the business flourished for fifty-nine years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed bowling, caring for his yard, carpentry work, fishing, and playing cards.Marcel was a man of few words and his memory will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends. His legacy is etched in the hearts of his loved ones, who will carry his lessons and love forward.Survivors include his devoted wife of sixty-one years, Betty Lavergne Babineaux; two daughters, Nina Bearb and her husband, Dion, of Carencro and Monique B. She was employed by Wal-Mart for over twenty-four years. Ella loved her 20lb chihuahua fur baby, Jolie, and her fur grand pup, Max. She enjoyed baking and cooking; she was known as the "Cake Lady" by some and by others "Granny Rose". You could always count on having a meal when visiting Ms. Ella, and she made sure no one ever left hungry. She had a green thumb and enjoyed her flowers, she enjoyed coloring and loved peacocks. She loved visiting with her friends and family, and made sure to always pray for everyone.Survivors include her daughter, Diane Comeaux of Carencro; her bonus son, Robert Comeaux; her special friend Betty; her cousins, Barbarella Granger, Nannette Broussard, Alonda Guilbeau and Lena Benoit whom she had a special bond with; her bonus daughters, Linda Truxell, Monica Davis and her husband, John, Michelle Desjacques, Barbara Melancon, and Sharon Bordelon; and Robert Comeaux, Jr. whom she loved like her grandson.She was preceded in death by her former husband, Caroll Bernard, Sr.; her infant daughter, Anita Ann Fontenot; her parents, Amar Pellerin and the former Anita Cormier; her brother, Allen Pellerin; and her bonus son, J.C. A veteran of the military, he proudly served in the United States Air Force. He was the owner and operator of Professional Training Services in Carencro. Training was something much more to Art then just a business, having the opportunity to change someone’s life and mentor them meant the world to him and simply having the opportunity to learn from Art was something special. His clients became his family and he would check in and keep up with them day to day. He was very generous and being able to take care of others in every aspect was what made him the happiest. He had a love for Jesus and expressed his words of faith and after life with such pride and passion. He taught and coached football and basketball in Texas, where he was elected Coach of the Year after leading the basketball team to victory at the 1974 Texas State Championship. He was a very proud grandfather to his pride and joy, his only granddaughter. She was employed for many years, until her retirement, by Stuller Settings of Lafayette, Louisiana.She was an avid reader, an antique connoisseur and had a gifted eye for all things of value. However, the thing she valued most was spending time and doing things that brought joy to her family, especially hosting Thanksgiving gatherings. In his younger years, Donald enjoyed horses and his later years if you ever needed to find him, he was on the golf course, he also enjoyed playing pool. Martin, born July 30, 1958, was a native and lifelong resident of Carencro having been a 1976 graduate of Carencro High School. He began his working career with Slemco for over twenty-six years as a Diesel Mechanic, later becoming a cattle and crawfish farmer.Gene was a man of integrity and the epitome of hard work and dedication. He was quick witted, honest to a fault, and loved his family with every fiber of his being. The love he had for his three daughters was immeasurable, always supporting them in anything they pursued, but his grandchildren were his absolute pride and joy - each of them carrying a piece of his wisdom, and humor.Although his time on Earth has come to an end, his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who love him most. He is now reunited in Heaven with his beautiful bride, Debbie, and together, can proudly watch over the family they raised grow and thrive in the next chapter of their lives.Survivors include his three daughters, Andrea Martin Riche and her husband, Nicholas, Melanie Martin LeBlanc and her husband, Cody, and Sara E.
