"Roger Clark Phillips 82 of Newtown, WV passed away September 9, 2023 at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY. Roger was born December 6, 1941 at Whitepost, KY. He was the son of the late Champ and Hazel Castle Phillips. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Don Eugene Phillips and Larry Allen Phillips, and sister Seigel Curry. Roger enjoyed attending ballgames and supporting his beloved Wolfpack, Mingo Miners, and WVU athletics. He was all about sports and was a great person to be around. Roger worked for many years for Kroger, having worked in Williamson and Logan before retiring. He was a proud US Veteran of the US Navy having served during the commission aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. Those left behind to cherish his memory include: his wife of 57 years, Sally Elizabeth Chafin Phillips, daughters Tammy Taylor and her Husband Norman of Pikeville, KY and Misty Marcum and her husband Dewey of Williamson, WV, brother Howard Phillips of Dix Fork, KY, sister Connie Hatcher of Florida, six grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Anthony Marcum, Joseph Marcum, Brooklyn Barnette, Acie Marcum, Baylee Marcum, and Dolliah Shrewsbury. He also leaves behind special friends: Terry and Wilma Steele, Ralph Hammond, and Priscilla and James Hager. "Joey Aaron Varney, age 41, of Varney, WV departed this world on October 10th, 2023. Joey was born February 17, 1982 to Lottie H. Varney and Alvis R. Varney Sr. at Fort Rucker, Alabama. Joey was the youngest of five sons to Lottie and Alvis Varney. Joey graduated from Delbarton High School and later attended college at Southern West Virginia Community College. Afterwards, Joey served in the 101st Airborne of the United States Army for several combat tours in Iraq. After serving in Iraq, Joey retired honorably due to his service-related combat injuries and later returned to his home in Varney, WV where he lived and passed away. Joey is remembered as an avid fisherman and outdoorsman as well as off roading on ATVs. Joey is remembered here on this earth by his three loving brothers, Gerald Varney of Juneau, Alaska, Alvis Varney Jr. and wife Patty of Greenville, Tennessee, and Aric Varney of Beckley, West Virginia. Joey is also fondly remembered by his niece Reanne and nephews Cody and Benji for his kindness and outgoing personality. He is preceded in death by his father Alvis Varney Sr, and his brother Joel Varney. Joey will be dearly missed by his loved ones and many friends. Age - 72

"Peggy Lavern Shermer, 72 of Delbarton, WV, passed away peacefully October 25, 2023 while at her home. She was born November 7, 2023 in Puritan, WV, the daughter of the late Homer and Sarah Smith Lockard. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband David Shermer, son Keith Gibson, brothers; Millard and Willard Lockard, sisters; Bonnie Montgomery, Herma Poffenbarger, and Glennita Price. Peggy was a homemaker and a member of the Regional Church of God. She was a loving mother, sister, and Grandmother and will be missed by all who knew her. Those left behind to cherish her loving memory includes her, son, Randy Gibson, sisters; Doris and her husband Charles Pack, and Shirley Coleman, grandchildren; Dustin, Allyson, and Cody Gibson. Age - 69

"Timothy Ken Moore, age 69, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Tug Valley Appalachian Regional Hospital. Timothy was born on January 25, 1954 in the city of Williamson, WV to the late Howard Moore and Minnie Kirk. Timothy has been welcomed into his eternal resting place by his parents and brother David Moore. He leaves behind his son Michael Moore and his wife Steph of Jonesboro, TN, his two brothers Keith Moore and Britt Moore of Delbarton, WV, his sister Lynn Caudill and her husband Chip of Delbarton, WV, sister-in-law Pamela Moore of Matewan, WV, his grandchildren Ethan Moore and his wife Shelby, Jamin Moore, Stacy Moore, Taylor Sparks, and Peyton Sparks. Timothy also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, friends, and other close family to cherish his memory. Tim was described as an outdoorsman. He loved spending his free time fishing with his brother Britt on Pigeon Creek. He was often found spending his days going for walks at the track in Delbarton, WV, getting fresh air, or tinkering in his garage. Another thing he enjoyed doing was watching his hummingbirds from his back porch. Aside from him loving the outdoors, he also liked to spend some time watching TV, relaxing some as well. Tim worked for many years in the mining industry as a Coal Miner and also worked in Mining Sales. Tim was a member of the Living Stone Baptist church, making sure to attend services regularly. Age - 80

"McArthur "Mac" Cisco, age 80, departed from this world on October 10th, 2023 while at Pikeville Medical Center. Mac was born on April 17, 1943 in Logan, West Virginia to the late Dock Cisco and Bessie Mahon. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by multiple family members and friends. Those left behind include his children, Todd Blankenship and Shirley Chafin and her wife Brandie, his grandchildren Charles Chafin, Mikey Mullins, Ciarra Dean, and Hannah Slone, his great-grandchild Alaina Hannah, and numerous other loving siblings, family members, and friends. Mac spent a lot of his time at home. He enjoyed spending time and surrounding himself with his grandchildren and close family, and also found pleasure in kicking back, watching TV to relax. Throughout his life, he worked at GM in Michigan and later worked as a Coalminer until he retired. Per his and his family wishes, no services will be held. "Mary Lou Roach 64 of Williamson, WV departed this life on October 18, 2023 while a patient at the Appalachian Regional Medical Center in Hazard, KY. She was born October 1, 1959 in Welch, WV of the late Millard and Naomi Martin Roach. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Adam Roach and sisters, Minnie Smith, Patricia Sizemore and Peggy Morgan. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her brother, Lewis Roach and his wife, Naomi of Logan, WV, sister, Joetta Bentley of Pikeville, KY, brother-in-law, Timmy Smith and special niece, April and her husband Clifford Adkins and their children, Brianna, Nicholas, Gavin. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews that she dearly loved. Mary enjoyed the simple things of life, one of them being reading. She was an avid reader and loved finding and collecting books. She spent time tending to her flowers and was often found looking for four-leaf clovers in her yard. Mary also enjoyed sewing, spending time with loved ones, and watching TV. In addition, she loved sock monkeys and anything to do with them. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 21, 2023 at 1:00pm with Elder Eddie Layne officiating at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will start at 11:00am Saturday until the start of the funeral. A private burial will take place on Monday October 23, 2023 at the Sunset View Memorial Park in Beckley, WV. "Patricia "Pat/Charlie" Maynard of Duncan Fork, WV passed away on November 5, 2023 at Tug Valley Appalachian Regional Hospital at the age of 68. Pat was born on December 5, 1954 to the late James Adam Ratcliff and Margaret Matney Ratcliff in Williamson, WV. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Richard Maynard, her brothers Sammy Ratcliff and Perry Ratcliff, and her sisters Christina Justice, Regina Cline, and Brenda Cline. Pat leaves behind various loved ones to cherish her memory, including: her brothers Larry Ooten, Gary Ratcliff, James Ratcliff, Otis Hatfield, and Bob Ratcliff, her sisters Linda Ooten, Carol Shipman, Violet Coffey, and Tammy Dempsey, her children Thomas Jackson Ooten and his wife Andrea, Adam Maynard, Vicky Ooten and her spouse Robert Marcum, her step-daughters Tammy Maynard Preece and Kim Mitchell, her grandchildren Christy Dawn Hunt, Sawyer Deskins, Dakota Williams, Robert Marcum, Vanessa Marcum, Logan Preece, Rylei Hall, Ryder Hall, Tara Mitchell, and Skylar Mitchell, and great-grandchildren Trenton Preece and Addisyn Preece. Pat was a happy woman, full of life and always smiling. She had a strong love for butterflies and loved being able to see them in her yard. She enjoyed painting and eating ice cream, along with shopping for and looking at jewelry. Pat was a homemaker throughout her life, devoting herself to her children and home. "Flossie Ellen England 61 of Mount Gay, WV passed away September 29, 2023 at the Logan Regional Hospital in Logan, WV. She was born February 18, 1962 at Frankfort, KY the daughter of the late Clyde McCormack and Mae Adams Marcum. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Diana Gerardi and Opal Bowens. Flossie was a homemaker. She enjoyed fishing, watching television, reading books and watching Tik Toks. She loved being with her family and dearly loved her grandchildren. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her husband of 17 years, Richard England, sons, Timothy Blackburn of Mount Gay and Ritchie England of Whitman, daughter, Regina England of Mount Gay, brothers, James Smith of Delbarton, Clyde McCormack of Blackberry, KY and David Goble of North Carolina, grandchildren, Richard, Lucas, Jaiden and Isaiah. Edward Ooten, 94 of Delbarton, WV went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2023 peacefully at home in Scarlett Road. He was born February 18, 1929 in Delbarton, WV the son of the late Henry Ooten and Peggy (Mahon) Ooten. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Susie Ooten; by his brothers, Tommy, Clifford, Jack, and Billy Ooten; by his sisters, Oakie Runyon, Opal Brewster, Lucille Evans, Polly Farley, and Ruby Lux; by his daughter-in-law Mary Lee (Marcum) Ooten; and by nephews Henry Ooten III, William Ooten, and Joseph Evans. Edward was a faithful servant and loved the Lord with all his heart. He was blessed with a long life. He was a member of The Duncan Fork House of Prayer for a time. He then attended and was a deacon for The Lilly of the Valley Freewill Baptist Church in Riffe Branch, WV until his health declined. He was a retired coal miner for Island Creek Coal Company. He loved to hunt, fish, and work on vehicles. He will be missed by his family and friends. He leaves behind his son, James Ooten of Delbarton, WV; grandchildren, Brittany Hope Harmon and her husband Derik Harmon of Logan, WV and Aric Chance Ooten of Fairmont, WV; great-grandchild, Auna Rain Bailey of Amherstdale, WV; brother Henry Ooten Jr. and wife Aileen of Delbarton, WV; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. The memorial services for Edward will be held Tuesday August 22, 2023 from 6-9 PM at The Duncan Fork House of Prayer. Special Services will start at 7 PM. "Gary Michael Davis 66 of Lenore, WV passed away at the Morgantown Health and Wellness facility. He was born July 24, 1957 at South Williamson, KY the son of the late Rev. Ray Davis and Mary Workman Davis. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Monroe and Larry "Bear" Davis. Mike was loved by all and will sadly be missed by all who knew him. He loved his Lenore community. Those left behind to cherish his memory include his brothers, Rev. In addition to his parents he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Gary Clifford Hall and David Lynn Hall. Curtis was a big WVU fans. He loved to watch the Mountaineers Football on the TV. He graduated from the Romney Deaf and Blind School in 1969 where he played basketball. He was dearly loved by his sisters.
