"Roger Clark Phillips 82 of Newtown, WV passed away September 9, 2023 at the Pikeville Medical Center in Pikeville, KY. Roger was born December 6, 1941 at Whitepost, KY. He was the son of the late Champ and Hazel Castle Phillips. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Don Eugene Phillips and Larry Allen Phillips, and sister Seigel Curry. Roger enjoyed attending ballgames and supporting his beloved Wolfpack, Mingo Miners, and WVU athletics. He was all about sports and was a great person to be around. Roger worked for many years for Kroger, having worked in Williamson and Logan before retiring. He was a proud US Veteran of the US Navy having served during the commission aboard the USS Kitty Hawk. Those left behind to cherish his memory include: his wife of 57 years, Sally Elizabeth Chafin Phillips, daughters Tammy Taylor and her Husband Norman of Pikeville, KY and Misty Marcum and her husband Dewey of Williamson, WV, brother Howard Phillips of Dix Fork, KY, sister Connie Hatcher of Florida, six grandchildren whom he dearly loved, Anthony Marcum, Joseph Marcum, Brooklyn Barnette, Acie Marcum, Baylee Marcum, and Dolliah Shrewsbury. He also leaves behind special friends: Terry and Wilma Steele, Ralph Hammond, and Priscilla and James Hager. In honoring Roger's wishes, cremation will take place and no services will be announced at this time. Chafin Funeral Home is proudly serving the Phillips family. "

"Timothy Ken Moore, age 69, went to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Tug Valley Appalachian Regional Hospital. Timothy was born on January 25, 1954 in the city of Williamson, WV to the late Howard Moore and Minnie Kirk. Timothy has been welcomed into his eternal resting place by his parents and brother David Moore. He leaves behind his son Michael Moore and his wife Steph of Jonesboro, TN, his two brothers Keith Moore and Britt Moore of Delbarton, WV, his sister Lynn Caudill and her husband Chip of Delbarton, WV, sister-in-law Pamela Moore of Matewan, WV, his grandchildren Ethan Moore and his wife Shelby, Jamin Moore, Stacy Moore, Taylor Sparks, and Peyton Sparks. Timothy also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, friends, and other close family to cherish his memory. Tim was described as an outdoorsman. He loved spending his free time fishing with his brother Britt on Pigeon Creek. He was often found spending his days going for walks at the track in Delbarton, WV, getting fresh air, or tinkering in his garage. Another thing he enjoyed doing was watching his hummingbirds from his back porch. Aside from him loving the outdoors, he also liked to spend some time watching TV, relaxing some as well. Tim worked for many years in the mining industry as a Coal Miner and also worked in Mining Sales. Tim was a member of the Living Stone Baptist church, making sure to attend services regularly. "Mary Lou Roach 64 of Williamson, WV departed this life on October 18, 2023 while a patient at the Appalachian Regional Medical Center in Hazard, KY. She was born October 1, 1959 in Welch, WV of the late Millard and Naomi Martin Roach. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Adam Roach and sisters, Minnie Smith, Patricia Sizemore and Peggy Morgan. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her brother, Lewis Roach and his wife, Naomi of Logan, WV, sister, Joetta Bentley of Pikeville, KY, brother-in-law, Timmy Smith and special niece, April and her husband Clifford Adkins and their children, Brianna, Nicholas, Gavin. She also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews that she dearly loved. Mary enjoyed the simple things of life, one of them being reading. She was an avid reader and loved finding and collecting books. She spent time tending to her flowers and was often found looking for four-leaf clovers in her yard. Mary also enjoyed sewing, spending time with loved ones, and watching TV. In addition, she loved sock monkeys and anything to do with them. Funeral services will be held Saturday October 21, 2023 at 1:00pm with Elder Eddie Layne officiating at the Chafin Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will start at 11:00am Saturday until the start of the funeral. A private burial will take place on Monday October 23, 2023 at the Sunset View Memorial Park in Beckley, WV. "Patricia "Pat/Charlie" Maynard of Duncan Fork, WV passed away on November 5, 2023 at Tug Valley Appalachian Regional Hospital at the age of 68. Pat was born on December 5, 1954 to the late James Adam Ratcliff and Margaret Matney Ratcliff in Williamson, WV. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Richard Maynard, her brothers Sammy Ratcliff and Perry Ratcliff, and her sisters Christina Justice, Regina Cline, and Brenda Cline. Pat leaves behind various loved ones to cherish her memory, including: her brothers Larry Ooten, Gary Ratcliff, James Ratcliff, Otis Hatfield, and Bob Ratcliff, her sisters Linda Ooten, Carol Shipman, Violet Coffey, and Tammy Dempsey, her children Thomas Jackson Ooten and his wife Andrea, Adam Maynard, Vicky Ooten and her spouse Robert Marcum, her step-daughters Tammy Maynard Preece and Kim Mitchell, her grandchildren Christy Dawn Hunt, Sawyer Deskins, Dakota Williams, Robert Marcum, Vanessa Marcum, Logan Preece, Rylei Hall, Ryder Hall, Tara Mitchell, and Skylar Mitchell, and great-grandchildren Trenton Preece and Addisyn Preece. Pat was a happy woman, full of life and always smiling. She had a strong love for butterflies and loved being able to see them in her yard. She enjoyed painting and eating ice cream, along with shopping for and looking at jewelry. Pat was a homemaker throughout her life, devoting herself to her children and home. In honoring Patricia, direct cremation will take place and a memorial service will be held at Duncan Fork House of Prayer on November 13, 2023 at 1:00 pm and will be led by Rev. Roger Ooten. Edward Ooten, 94 of Delbarton, WV went home to be with the Lord on August 17, 2023 peacefully at home in Scarlett Road. He was born February 18, 1929 in Delbarton, WV the son of the late Henry Ooten and Peggy (Mahon) Ooten. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Susie Ooten; by his brothers, Tommy, Clifford, Jack, and Billy Ooten; by his sisters, Oakie Runyon, Opal Brewster, Lucille Evans, Polly Farley, and Ruby Lux; by his daughter-in-law Mary Lee (Marcum) Ooten; and by nephews Henry Ooten III, William Ooten, and Joseph Evans. Edward was a faithful servant and loved the Lord with all his heart. He was blessed with a long life. He was a member of The Duncan Fork House of Prayer for a time. He then attended and was a deacon for The Lilly of the Valley Freewill Baptist Church in Riffe Branch, WV until his health declined. He was a retired coal miner for Island Creek Coal Company. He loved to hunt, fish, and work on vehicles. He will be missed by his family and friends. He leaves behind his son, James Ooten of Delbarton, WV; grandchildren, Brittany Hope Harmon and her husband Derik Harmon of Logan, WV and Aric Chance Ooten of Fairmont, WV; great-grandchild, Auna Rain Bailey of Amherstdale, WV; brother Henry Ooten Jr. and wife Aileen of Delbarton, WV; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends. The memorial services for Edward will be held Tuesday August 22, 2023 from 6-9 PM at The Duncan Fork House of Prayer. Special Services will start at 7 PM. Funeral services will be held Wednesday August 23, 2023 at 1:00 PM at The Duncan Fork House of Prayer with Rev. Roger Ooten officiating.
