Rodger Stan Keyes was born July 24, 1948, in Dallas, Texas, and passed away peacefully on September 8, 2023, with wife and friend by his side. He was preceded in death by parents Robert Stan Keyes and Burdena Barker Keyes. He was married to Deborah Clark Keyes for 39 years, 8 months and 19 days. He was sad he wouldn't be able to make it to our 40th anniversary. Survived by wife Deborah, daughter Stacey Bourne-husband Jimmy and son Shea Sumner-wife Trisha. Sisters Paula Guidara-husband Kenny and Leah Keyes. Grandchildren Cole, Hayden, Paxtyn, Olivia, Jaxon, Brandon-wife Kira, Stormy-husband Mason Great grandchildren Braedon, Reagen, Kaylee, Jordan and Rainey. He served in the Navy and did 2 tours on the ground in Vietnam. He also flew and was the radio operator on the P-3 Naval Reconnaissance. If you ask him how long he was in the military, he quickly told you 2 years, 8 months and 4 days. Rodger will be laid to rest at DFW National Cemetery at a later date. After retiring from sales, he started his own small construction company and made many friends. He called it his paper route and it was his weekly mission to go see everyone he could. The long-lasting impact that he made on friends, the organizations he joined, co-workers and especially the youth in his church was an incomparable example to many. in lieu flowers, Rodger would have liked donations to Food 4 Kids, First Methodist Church. Opal "Elaine" Erwin Hamilton of Midlothian, Texas (formerly of Hemphill) passed away Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Midtowne Meadows in Midlothian TX. Elaine was born on July 11th, 1931 in the Goodrich Home in Hemphill Texas to Belvie Erwin and Sally Ruth Holder Erwin. She attended Hemphill ISD where she was a cheerleader and played high school basketball. Her team's picture is proudly displayed above the cashier on the header at Valero in Beanville. Upon graduation, her father Belvie, sold a cow and a calf to send her to business school in Beaumont Texas. After graduation, she went to work for the Salvation Army in their Beaumont office. She played on their softball team and one day her friend and roommate, Billie Sue Chambers, introduced her to the love of her life, O. D. Hamilton Jr. They were married 3 months later and recently celebrated their 74th Anniversary on May 6th of this year with family and friends. Elaine and OD lived in Beaumont for many years then moved to Lumberton in 1968. A job promotion for OD with Santa Fe Railroad took them to live in Mansfield TX in 1974. Upon his retirement, they moved back to Elaine's hometown of Hemphill in 1986. As their life advanced in years, they moved to Midlothian TX in November 2020 to be close to their daughter, Candy Shuffitt and family, to be loved and cared for until her passing. Elaine spent most of her life as a Housewife, Mother, MaMa, and Great MaMa. She worked as the church secretary for First Baptist Church Loeb in Lumberton TX and as a clerk at Western Auto with her best friend and owner, Betty Seeton in Mansfield TX. She was known for her cooking and volunteering. She was very involved with Fehl Elementary PTA and a Blue Bird Leader in Beaumont TX, She was member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #375, Grand Chapter of Texas, Hemphill TX, Texas Baptist Mens Builders, Election Clerk, Cooked for the Youth Trips for First Baptist Church Hemphill, Vacation Bible, Fundraisers for Youth and other events at FBC Hemphill. Elaine was preceded in death by parents, Belvie and Ruth Holder Erwin, her husband of 74 years 5 months, Ommer Dean Hamilton Jr. ; daughter, Cassandra (Casi) Hamilton Harrison; and granddaughter, Christina Elaine Bird. She is survived by daughters, Cynthia (Cindy) Bell of Lafayette, LA, Candace (Candy) Shuffitt and husband, Larry, of Venus TX; grandchildren, Ken Harrison, Jr. and wife, Stephanie, Tammie Harrison Lang, April Shuffitt Cunningham and husband, Jason, Melanie Elaine Shuffitt Barber and husband, Michael, Michelle Shuffitt Freeman and husband, Wayne; great grandchildren, Victoria Lang, Grant Freeman and wife, Olivia, Zach Lang and wife, Paige, Evan Freeman, Kyle Lang, Matthew Barber, Madison Elaine Barber, Jace Bruton, Morgan Cunningham, Maddox Barber, and Jaxson Bruton; and great great granddaughter and light of her life, Ivy Lucille Freeman. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p. m. until 7:00 p. m. Friday, December 1, 2023 at Starr Funeral Home, 510 Starr Street, Hemphill, Texas. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p. m. Donna Jeanne Craig, age 78, of Midlothian, Texas, passed away on November 13, 2023. She was born on February 2, 1945, at Florence Nightingale Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Donna was a kind, compassionate, caring, and loving individual, known for her warm personality and gentle nature. Donna was an elementary school teacher for 9 years before having children, and dedicated herself to raising her two sons, Jeff and Jason Bailey. Once they were old enough to attend school, she returned to work, transitioning from being a stay-at-home mom to having various jobs that did not involve teaching. She decided to go back to teaching once Jeff and Jason were in high school. She was hired at the Frank Seale Middle School, where she taught 6th grade Social Studies and Science until her retirement in 2010. In her free time, Donna had a passion for horses. During her early twenties, she and her cousin Carolyn would frequent two riding stables in Dallas. They would race around the track, fueled by their shared love for horses. Donna would spare no expense to indulge in her hobby, often going to great lengths to spend time with these majestic animals. While her sons were still young, the family was able to purchase an Indian Paint Horse that they named Royal. Her love of horses is shared by her son Jason, who was constantly asking if he could ride him. Donna is survived by her husband of 14 years, Peter Craig, who moved to Texas from Australia so they could get married. She is also survived by her loving family, including her sons Jeff Bailey and Jason Bailey, her daughter-in-law Rachel, and her granddaughters Kathryn and McKenna. She is also survived by her sister Patricia Purcell, her brother-in-law Dave, her niece Kimberly Purcell Brown, her nephew-in-law Justin Brown, and her nephew Eric Purcell. Donna was preceded in death by her father, JP Pope Jr. , and her mother, Dorothy Pope (Clark). A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 19th, from 4-6PM at Midlothian Funeral Home, located at 200 East Avenue E, Midlothian, TX 76065. A graveside service will take place on Monday, November 20th, at 1PM at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, located at 1500 South Westmoreland Road, Desoto, TX 75115. Allen Ray Calvery (81) of Midlothian, Texas passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on November 14th, 2023. Allen also known as Dad, Papaw, Big Al or Uncle Butch was born to Virginia Harris Collins in Abilene, Texas on September 5th, 1942. He grew up in Waco and Dallas, Texas a loving brother and an avid outdoorsman. On November 10th, 1972 he married the love of his life Linda Calvery, whom he stayed lovingly devoted to for 51 years. Together they raised seven children. Allen is survived by his wife Linda Calvery and his children Jana Holmes and husband Brent, Jeff Calvery and his wife Andrea, Chris Calvery and his wife Darla, Gina Carter, Brian Calvery, Brandi Just and her husband Jeff, and Brandon Calvery and his wife Meghan. And his 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Brenda Parker Carter and her husband Eddy Carter and his nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Virginia Harris Collins and his step-father Morton Lane Parker. Allen was always known for being a dedicated father and grandfather and a strong man of God. Beyond his incredible love for his family, Allen was a hard worker. He was passionate about hunting and always loved spending time with his sons and grandsons sitting in a deer stand. He was well known for being the best church league softball coach pitcher. He loved taking care of his chickens. He was a father figure to all who knew him. Dorothy "Dottie" Nell Lawson, born on June 6, 1945, in Tennessee, embarked on a journey through various places during her childhood, eventually making her way to Dallas, Texas. The only child of Earl Kilgore and Hazel Morris, Dorothy's childhood was marked by an unwavering desire to assist and aid others. After graduating high school, Dorothy married Billy Lawson on October 20, 1967, in Midlothian, Texas, sharing 32 years of a loving marriage. A devoted parent, Dorothy had a son, Roland A. Lawson, and two step-daughters, Vicki Lawson Higbee (predeceased) and Lisa Lawson Jenkins. She took immense pride in their accomplishments and was always ready to support and stand by them. Working diligently to provide for her family, Dorothy faced challenges head-on, showcasing an outgoing personality, with family being of utmost importance. She possessed an ever-positive outlook on life, always lending a helping hand to those in need. Dorothy was a long-time member of Trinity Baptist Church of Grand Prairie, Texas, teaching Sunday School for first graders and seeking to deepen her understanding of her faith in Jesus Christ. She dedicated many years of service to Champion Building Products in Arlington, Texas, retiring in 1987. Her most cherished memories involved spending vacations at the lake and celebrating holidays with her family in Midlothian. Her hobbies were centered around helping and volunteering, always prioritizing others before herself. For Dorothy, family was everything, and the birth of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were among her most joyous moments. Dorothy was preceded in death by her father, Earl Kilgore; mother, Hazel Austin; husband, Billy Lawson; and step-daughter, Vicki Lawson Higbee. She is survived by her son Roland Lawson, wife Nancy Lawson; step-daughter Lisa Lawson Jenkins; granddaughters Amber Poynter, Kendall Moore, and Chase Street; great-granddaughters Zoe Poynter and Hollyn Moore, and great-grandson Max Poynter. Loving, giving, and caring, Dorothy Nell Lawson will be remembered for her selfless nature and her eternal commitment to putting others' needs before her own. Her legacy of love and kindness will remain forever in the hearts of those she touched. The family has planned a visitation on Thursday, November 9, 2023 from 10 to 11 in the morning with a service to follow at 11 with Rev. Dr. Tom Heath officiating at Midlothian Funeral Home.
