"Lydia Rebecca Sanders, also known as Becky, passed away on December 4, 2023, at the age of 76, in Huntsville, Alabama. She was born on November 20, 1947, in Laurel, Mississippi, to George N. Shirley and Mabel Hudson Shirley. Becky was preceded in death by her father and mother, as well as her loving husband, William B. Sanders. Becky was a compassionate and giving individual, always ready to lend a helping hand. She will be remembered for her selflessness and her willingness to assist others. Becky's kind and nurturing nature extended beyond her professional life, as she dedicated many years to teaching and guiding students. Her career included roles as a teacher, Vo-tech director, and Assistant Principal in the Laurel City Schools system. Becky's educational journey began at R. H. Watkins High School. She later pursued higher education, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi and a masters degree from Mississippi State University. In her free time, Becky cherished spending time with her grandson, William Rocket Hyndman. She is survived by her daughter, Emily Sanders Hyndman, her son-in-law, Brian Hyndman, and her brother, George N. Shirley, Jr. as well. Their company brought her immense joy and fulfillment. Becky's faith was an important aspect of her life, and she found solace and community at First Baptist Church in Laurel. There will be a graveside service at Lake Park Cemetery in Laurel, MS on December 12 at 11 am. "Show more

Joel Albert Call, 67, of Huntsville, AL went home to His Lord on Thursday November 30, 2023. Joel was born on September 2, 1956, in Wichita, Kansas, graduating from Huntsville High School in 1974 and attending the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He loved fishing and the outdoors and was active in the Boy Scouts attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He was an excellent card player, gathering many Bridge Master's points and attending professional poker classes in Las Vegas. Later in life he developed a passion for cooking, leading him to attend training at the Culinary Institute of America in New York. Joel was an avid historian and voracious reader immersing himself in science fiction audiobooks and the study of the Greek and Roman ages, particularly loving computer games that involved historic event recreations and military capabilities. Who else would you know that was fluent in the creation of aqueducts? That was Joel. Joel spent his professional life in Huntsville providing production planning services for Avex, Benchmark, and BEA. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Call. He is survived by his brother, Steven Call of Huntsville, AL; his sister, Sally Call Burek of La Grange, GA; his brother, Bruce Call of Bradenton, FL; and his beloved nephews and nieces. Visitation will be from 10:00 a. m. to 11:00 a. m. on Saturday December 9, 2023, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with the Celebration of Life Service following at 11:00 a. m. in the funeral home chapel. George C. Wallace, age 80, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023. George was born in Movella, Mississippi on March 25, 1943. George worked for Pipefitter Local 760 for many years. After retirement he found himself spending time in the garden, whether it was trees or plants he loved to garden and watch things grow and flourish. George was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, as well as a active member of his church Westlawn Baptist Church until he was no longer able. The family would like to express their gratitude to the church for their constant support during this time. George is preceded in death by his father, George W. Wallace; mother, Dorothy Inez Wallace; daughter, Stephanie Poore; brothers, Billy and DV Wallace; as well as 2 sisters, Dorothy Jean and JoAnn Tanner. Left to cherish his memory is his beloved wife Carolyn Wallace of Huntsville, Alabama; son David Wallace (Amy) of Myrtle, Mississippi and daughter Cindy Bates (John) of Lucedale, Mississippi, 6 grandchildren, his beloved dog Lucy, and host of extended family and friends.
