April 25, 2023
Grand Haven, MI
Our beloved Roderic Lewis Ferguson, age 83 of Grand Haven, passed away in his home on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on March 5, 1940 to Malcolm and Georgiana (Hildebrand) Ferguson. Rod married Becky Christiansen and they shared 58 years of love together. Rod graduated from Grand Haven High School. He went on to proudly serve as a communications specialist in the US Navy. Following his service, he returned to the Tri-Cities area and established himself as a talented mason for many years before a career in law enforcement. He served on the Spring Lake Police Department and retired from the Ottawa County Sheriff's Department in 2002. Rod's family, friends, and faith were the cornerstones of his life. He enjoyed years of camping, card games, and cooking for those he loved, and never passed up an opportunity to be with his grandchildren or meet friends for breakfast or a round of golf. Rod worshiped at Journey Community Church in Muskegon. Rod loved all things sports. He played fast-pitch softball and basketball in local leagues, was the #1 boxer on his ship in the Navy, and made 3 holes-in-one and many life-long friends on the golf course. His love of the Chicago Cubs was legendary. Rod is lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Becky; and two children, Keith (Cassie) Ferguson and Kim (Todd) Allsup. "Papa" was adored by six grandchildren: Bayge, Owen, and Lydia Ferguson, Jacob Tibaldi, Alek (Jordan) Schroeder, and Madasyn Schroeder; seven great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Joyce Ferguson and Joyce Wiley; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Don and Tim Ferguson. The Memorial Service for Rod will take place at 11:00 a. m. on Monday, May 1, 2023 at Journey Community Church in Muskegon with Pastor Paul Urban officiating. Full Military Honors to be performed by the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post 28. Visitation will be held the evening prior to the service on Sunday, April 30th, from 5:00 to 7:00 p. m. at Klaassen Family Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions may be made to Love in Action of the Tri-Cities, Journey Community Church, or Folds of Honor Foundation.
