"We are sad to announce the passing of Armand James Verratti, age 62, originally from Cinnaminson, NJ but most recently resided in Fort Wayne, IN. He was a graduate of Cinnaminson High School in 1979 and the Restaurant School of Philadelphia where he pursued his love of cooking. He worked at several restaurants in the Philadelphia area and casinos in Atlantic City, Wisconsin and Indiana. He made many friendships wherever he worked and was often a confidant to those who needed an ear. He loved watching Golden Girls and enjoyed TV mysteries. He had many passions, but he held his family and faith closest to his heart. As a sign of his devotion, he would sit at the Adoration Chapel of St. Joseph’s Church in Shelbyville, IN. Survived by his sister, Marilyn Ruff (nee Verratti), brother-in-law, Walter, niece and nephews, Giacomino, Angelo and Christina. Great nieces and nephews Giacomino, Fabiana, Lula, Harper and David as well as many cousins."

Tamara "Tammy" L. Perkins, 65, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024. Tammy was born August 11, 1958, the daughter of Charles Fortner and Verna (Metheney) Maurer. She is survived by her husband of 10 years, Robert "Bob" Perkins. Tammy had a caring heart and enjoyed helping people, whether it was when she was a CNA or working as a Medicaid driver. Her favorite past time was Bingo. Tammy is survived by her husband Bob; a daughter, Bonnie Kissinger; two sons, Donald Kissinger Jr. and Scott Sweet. Also surviving is a sister, Debbie Hanson; two brothers, Roger Fortner and Michael Maurer. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Joyce Gilbert, Carla Fortner and a brother, Chuck Fortner. A Celebration of Life gathering will be held Friday, March 8, 2024 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM with a celebration of Tammy's life beginning at 4:00 PM, at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne. Dorthy Marie Epple, 86 passed away February 25, 2024 at her home in Fort Wayne, IN. She was born January 5, 1938 in Liberty Center, OH, the daughter of Clifford O. and Elma Davis. She was a teacher with Fort Wayne Community Schools for 32 years and retired in 2001. Dorthy was a dedicated member of St. John Lutheran Church and very involved with ISTA. She is survived by her son, Clifford (Sarah) Epple of Fort Wayne, IN; her sisters, Doris Drust, Debi (Royal) Meeks, Donna Murphy, and Darla (Mitch) Roth; her grandchildren, Brittany (Michael) Barton, Nicholas, Matthew, Penelope, Anastasia, and Alexander; 4 great grandchildren and a step great grandchild. Dorthy was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Paul Epple, and son, Rick Epple; her parents; and a sister Doreen Davis. Funeral service will be 10 am Friday March 1, 2024 at D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home 8325 Covington Road Fort Wayne, IN, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Thursday February 29, 2024 at the funeral home. Burial at St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Adrienne Lange Baach (“Adie”), 85, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, died on February 21, 2024. Adie is survived by son Michael and daughter Gwyneth (“Wendy”). She had four wonderful grandchildren: William (“Will”), Elizabeth, Katherine (“Katie”) and Sarah. She is also survived by her sister Madeleine Fern (“Mady”). Her brother, Scott, and husband, Dick, predeceased her. Adie was born on July 11, 1938 in Chicago, IL and was raised in Winnetka, IL. She received her BS and MA degrees from Northwestern University, where she was fortunate to study James Joyce with Richard Ellmann as he finished his National Book award-winning biography of the Irish writer. She taught high school English and drama at North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka, IL and also taught kindergarten through 8th-grade creative writing and dramatics at Canterbury School in Fort Wayne. She was also the events coordinator at the Grand Wayne Convention Center. Adie was considered the epitome of a true intellectual by those who knew her best. She was a Master Gardener and enjoyed cooking, reading and the theater. She often traveled with Dick, as they shared a passion for lifelong learning over their 60 years of marriage. While she will be sorely missed, Adie will be long remembered by family and friends. Arrangements entrusted to D.O. McComb and Sons Covington Knolls Funeral Home, Fort Wayne, IN.

Alice Jean Retz,76, passed away on Saturday, February 24, 2024 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She lived the last two and a half years in Fort Wayne, but spent the rest of her life in Winchester, Indiana on the family farm. Alice was born on April 18, 1947, the first child of Kenny and Helen (Suta) Retz. She graduated with honors and as a member of the National Honor Society from Winchester Community High School. After high school, she attended Ball State University. Alice worked various positions in Winchester and the surrounding cities. She was most proud of the family farm and maintained the property, on her own, for almost 20 years. Alice fought a courageous battle the last two and a half years, never complaining and always optimistic. She is survived by her sister, Thelma; brother-in-law, Jack; niece, Kelly (Paul) DellaGrotte; nephew, Kenny (Kendra) Sinak; four great nieces; and one great nephew. Alice loved her family deeply. A Mass of Christian Burial for Alice will be held at 11:00am on Friday, March 1, 2024 at St. Peter's Catholic Church, 518 East Dewald Street, Fort Wayne, Indiana 46803. She will be laid to rest next to her parents at the Fountain Park Cemetery 700 South Main Street Winchester, Indiana 47394 on Monday, March 4, 2024. Alice asked that any memorial donations in her name be made to the Winchester Animal Control at 900 North West Street, Winchester, Indiana 47394.

Roberta A. Folland, 87, of Fort Wayne, Indiana and Defiance, Ohio, passed away on February 21, 2024 at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne. She was born on September 22,1936 to Elmer and Olive (Barnes) Orr in rural Sears, Michigan. She met and then married Jackson Folland on April 9, 1960 in Lansing, Michigan. She graduated from Woodland High School (Woodland, Michigan) in 1955 where she was active in cheerleading and many school activities. After graduating, she worked in the trust department at banks in Lansing and Indianapolis, Indiana. After the birth of her 1st child, she became a full time homemaker, raising her three children. In addition, she was a childcare provider and nanny for many families in Fort Wayne and Defiance. She was a huge fan of Michigan State University sports and was always devoted to her family. Her smile & caring nature will be missed by many. She was an active member of Simpson United Methodist Church in Fort Wayne and then St. Paul United Methodist Church in Defiance. She was active in the choir, United Methodist Women (UMW), and missions. She was a talented vocalist with a passion for music. She performed numerous solos and duets, in addition to participating in church choirs throughout her lifetime. She was also involved in several music performance groups in Fort Wayne, most notably-Southmoor Singers & Sigma ETA. She is survived by her three children, Christopher (Jill) Folland of Clear Lake, Indiana, Jim (Pam) Folland of LaOtto, Indiana and Katherine Folland of Defiance; her sister, Annabelle (David) Teeter of Racine, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Zach Folland, Emily (Patrick) Doss, Kaileigh (Alex) Derksen, Julia Folland; and great granddaughter, Ruby Doss; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents and stepfather, Floyd Mahler; she was preceded in death by her husband on February 17, 2019; and six siblings, Dorothy Chandler, Harriett Prothro, Betty Zimmerman, Gertrude Orr, Joyce Rosser, and Edmund Orr. Suggested memorials are to St. Paul United Methodist Church Food Pantry in Defiance or Stillwater Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Allen Glen Leland, age 81, of Angola, Indiana passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, Indiana. He was born on January 1, 1943 in Fremont, Indiana to Leo and Thelma (Hughes) Leland. Allen proudly served his Country in the United States Air Force from 1960 until 1963, working as a weapons specialist, and served overseas. Allen grew up in Fremont and Angola. He worked at the Strand Theater as a projectionist and later at the Lakeland Drive-in. He retired from Tenneco, Inc. after many years of service. He enjoyed working on electronics, fishing and local track racing. Survivors include his nieces and nephews, Pam Bradley of Homer, Michigan, Michael (Sharon) Leland of Fremont, Indiana, Larry (Arlena) Leland of Angola, Indiana, Bryan (Robin) Leland of Pleasant Lake, Indiana, Ladonna (Kevin) Robb of Coldwater, Michigan, Patricia Stempien of Fremont, Indiana, Dianna (Michael) Richardson of Waterloo, Indiana, and Ronald (Roberta) Leland of Garrett, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Thelma Leland, and brothers, Lowell "Bud" Leland, and Robert Leland. Visitation will be held from 12 pm until 1 pm Friday, March 1, 2024 at Beams Funeral Home, Fremont, Indiana. He retired from St. Francis University. His hobbies included family, Bible study, wildlife, small engine repair, and spending time at his farm. He was a member at Faith Baptist Church, Fort Wayne. Surviving family include his sons, Stewart (Eileen) and Charles; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in passing by his wife, Naomi Nancy Brand; and sister, Patricia "Patty" Glover. Funeral service will be 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Hockemeyer & Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne with visitation one hour prior. Karen L. Talmage, age 81, passed away on February 25, 2024 in Fort Wayne, she left the light of her life, Alan, and went home. She was the daughter of the late Olive and Paul Brumm. Karen has one brother, David, and one sister, Dr. Laurie Brumm who preceded her in death. She graduated from Southside High School and the Lutheran School of Nursing. She lived in Honolulu from 1965-1967 and moved to Maui with her first husband in 1969 until 1973 and served as the Assistant Director of Nursing at Hale Makua. Karen adopted her son, Aaron, and gave birth to her daughters, Lisa and Leah. After a year of being single she married Alan Talmage in 1977 and later adopted his four children, Liz, Kathryn, David, and Maggie. After marrying Alan, she worked as the Director of Home Care for the Medical Personnel Pool. Karen loved the 40 years she spent with Alan on the family farm and enjoyed traveling with Alan to China, Russia, Africa, and Europe. They retired to the Towne House in 2016. They have thirteen grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Service is 2:00 pm, Saturday, March 2, 2024 at the Towne House Retirement Center Chapel, 2209 St. Joe Center Rd., with calling two hours prior.
